honestly i find it really funny how oppenheimer in this video is characterized as a creepy old man, completely reversed with how he's usually depicted in media
I think Oppenheimer’s story is one that’s very easy to romanticise. “Tortured genius whose career was ruined by McCarthyist freaks” is a good sell for a Christopher Nolan film (which I generally liked) but the weirder parts of Oppenheimer’s legacy aren’t as well known as they should be. Unquestionably brilliant but man he got up to some odd shit lmao
I came to this channel because of the lab supervision video, but damn your videos are well made and overflow with love for the field and well told stories. Loved every minute, can‘t wait for p2
I attended a standing room only lecture by Pauling at a Texas Medical School in the mid-80s. I don't recall the details, but his lecture centered on ibuprofen (he pronounced it 'uh-BOO-profen' which is why I remember his subject matter). I do remember his lecture style to be engaging and the gist of his lecture to be plausible - maybe more so because he was considered Medical Royalty at the time.
What a beautiful day to be alive, if only i had some crunchy iron to enjoy this video with The thumbtack design looks very professional, i think im falling in love
Impressive how much he worked while studying, he's very fortunate he didn't break down. Can't help but wonder if he used chemical stimulants like Paul Erdos. I also have a suspicion that all his time working menial jobs with people who struggled to get by made him feel like workers deserved better treatment. It's a completely normal reaction to the struggle.
30:10 I think you forgot to put down the background music in the description. I believe it is: Stardew Valley OST - Summer (The Sun Can Bend An Orange Sky)
After getting diagnosed with ADHD and getting treatment, I've really started enjoying learning about physics in general. I also started to really like learning about the history about alot of things(WWII) This video was super entertaining to hear, and I watched along so I can keep up with the names and not get confused lol I'm really excited for part 2 of the video, and I'm really glad I found your channel. I think I'm going to be listening to the rest of the videos you have uploaded previously during my commutes for a while lol I've subscribed, and I'm genuinely excited to learn about new people I wouldn't have had any interest in if it weren't for these videos. I wanted to share the joy I got from the video, instead of just clicking off.
...oh cool another MQ tate video... and it's not from the element series, interesting, let's see linus pauling? yeah that name rings a bell, okay who comes to mind when i hear the word genius? hmmm.... let's pause and really think about that lemme just move my cursor, go down to the video settings aaaannd.... FORTY MINUTES?!?!?!?!?!
I REALLY REALLY hate to be that guy, but at 0:42 when you say, "Pauling is the only person in history whose prizes were unshared" Marie Curie came to my mind instantly. She has 1 nobel prize in chemistry and 1 in physics, unless i missunderstood what you meant. Despite this I also want to say awesome video! I've been really enjoying your channel recently and I wish you all the best! Love from Poland (literally the only reason why I know that Marie Curie had 2 nobel prizes).

A man contains multitudes and those multitudes contain weird old sex pervert surprisingly often.
Every single person in the world has gotten up to some weird shit they don't want to be remembered by
41:16 “I’m recording this on Saturday December 21st, 2021 which will hopefully be the upload date”

F O R T Y MINUTES?? We've been blessed
Right !
Yeah, I appreciate the 3+ years of work this took
POV: You've been held hostage by a PhD student with no sleep who is desperately procrastinating working on his thesis
Thanks for accurately portraying Oppenheimer's piercing blue eyes. They were so piercing that they actually split atoms apart
"If he didn't immediately excell on a topic he quickly lost interest and his grades plummeted" he's just like me
(comment for algorithm)
Comment for algorithms also love your videos
BritMonkey and MQTate collab???
my goats
ikr, too relatable
EL MONO BRITANICO???
I both can't wait for part 2 and couldn't resist sharing this video with every friend on my course. Fabulous stuff!
Oppenheimer trying to form history’s most accursed scientist polycule is hilarious, wtf was he doing
I read that as "I RUINED CAREER :D "

That's insane! Doesn't surprise me it was standing room only, not every day you get to listen to a dual Nobel Laureate
I love Spending Time with Max simulator ❤ What a fantastic job youve done on this one, dude! Looking forward to part 2! Xx
i really like how the story is getting displayed through connections between drawn photos, really great video!
i love the swirling oppenheimer music every time he shows up
Every frame he's on screen he has a 1 in 500 chance of facing the camera and saying your full name and home address
Holy shit its the 1964N guy
WOW!!!! What an amazing christmas gift!!!! I love your content and im so excited for this 40 minute ride!
Wow, this is a really great video! I haven't really seen a big deep-dive documentary in a cartoonish style, and it really adds a lot personality.

This is absolutely on the level of Bobby Brocoli
Thank you! Not sure I’m quite on his level yet (;
You got a video out on the intended date! (Don’t look at what year it is, it’s December 21st)

Thank you! Hopefully I'll have at least 2 or 3 more subscribers over the next few days (;
A lewis video like this would be awesome too

"Can be taught to 11 year olds"
Me who struggled a lot to learn it when I was 12: *press X to doubt*
oh my god this is so well produced, this is some bobbybroccoli level sh!t
Every Oppenheimer moment just sends me
This is really cool. Are there other chemists that you might do a video like this for?
Civ 6 ost mentioned. What is a full night of sleep?
I owe you a pint for this one
20:53 Steve Cobs form II reference?!
His behaviour was truly 'a Pauling'.
Just for that pun I'm delaying Part 2 by an extra 6 months
@MQTate Nooooooo :((
(Iron is still waiting for you)
17:33 made the mistake of checking the personal life tab of his wiki page. Dude sucked 😢
YEAH amazing how few people know how dodgy he was lmao
I see Pierre Curie as the genius of chemistry
The Civ6 music :))
Genius Video😂
This video is absolutely L Pauling 😂 truly one of the videos of all time
is this iron? i cant tell
"Pauline Pauling"
Id hate to be her lmao
damn. pls more

41:16 2021? (Also this video was awesome and I'm super excited for part 2)
Have a comment for the algorithm
So good tho man, damnnnnn
And the third-party candidate against President Lodge and Governor Faubus!
❤❤❤❤
You say he's the 'smartest quack in history', yet I've seen no ducks in this video. Curious.
Algorithm time
i think this was a nice detour from the tatefacts videos
Ah, Linus Pauling. A man who's career as a scientist was matched only by his career as a pseudoscientist.
Algorithim

Marie Curie shared her first prize with her husband Pierre and Henri Becquerel. For both of Pauling's prizes, he was the only recipient.
Definitely not …. Ol what’s his name
First
Damn, 40 minutes? Did you drop out or something?
Nah still in school, I just like making silly videos ehehe
@@MQTate Should drop out and make money. Y9u fucjing loser
I should probably comment to ensure UA-cam recommends this videö to more people.
