Talkin About Doctor Who: 2023 Trailer Reaction
Unearthly Child: Tense and harrowing 8/10 The Daleks: Near perfect sci-fi 9/10 Edge of Destruction: A missed opportunity 4/10 Marco Polo: Doctor Who’s only road movie, and it is exquisite 10/10
I think it’s disgraceful that in 2013 the BBC still wouldn’t allow McGann to appear in Day of the Doctor. Even if you still had John Hurt, why couldn’t McGann be in it too?
The TV Movie is very entertaining, and in isolation quite a nice little Who adventure. But in the wider context of Who history, it was a creative mid-step. Too much lore; the Master was a bad choice of villain, and the regeneration robs McGann of more screen time. 6/10
Temporal orbit presumably means circling a moment in time rather than a physical object or location.
Battlefield: Action packed and intelligent, but a couple of weak performances 7/10 Ghost Light: Claustrophobic and intriguing 8/10 Curse of Fenric: A great mix of sci-fi and horror 9/10 Survival: Poetic, atmospheric and visceral 9/10
Tomb of the Cybermen: very good but overrated 7/10 Abominable Snowmen: Atmospheric and unique 8/10 Ice Warriors: Great cohesion of theme, style and content 8/10 Enemy of the World: A refreshing change 7/10 Web of Fear: Well directed nonsense 5/10 Fury from the Deep: Tense and chilling 9/10 Wheel in Space: Convoluted plot but a great cast 7/10
My non-fan bf encouraged me to do a marathon with him. He really liked Colony in Space and thought it was one of the best; up there with Keys of Marinus! Non-fan opinions are always fascinating.
It would have been interesting if instead of a robot Doctor, the Daleks had made a robot Susan. The robot would have given itself away by saying Doctor and not Grandfather.
I have a soft spot for Timelash. I think Colin is at his most ‘Doctorish’, especially with his mad trip into the Timelash and then knocking up a little handheld invisiblity/time machine. It’s amazing that Revelation of the Daleks was broadcast without more cuts. It really isn’t suitable for kids. I also think that this story would have suited the Cybermen better. And the Daleks should have been the ones trying to blow up Earth with Halley’s Comet.
Saward praises the 45 minute format, but I see little evidence on screen of him utilising the format well. His nihilistic and brutal tendencies didn’t do the series any favours either; especially when the Doctor and Peri don’t offer a beacon of reassurance to the audience. JNT sadly went along with it rather than keeping the show suitable for 5pm Saturday evening.
.......WHAT.....???? you have HERED....ABOUT THE BOOK....????!!!....TRY SPEAKING ENGLISH YOU FUCKING BERK........THE WORD IS SPOKEN AS "HERD"......PRAT...
This is an all-time classic and it makes me happy every time. Many, many thanks for sharing! Do you have other Michael Jayston appearances? Love him SO much. ❤
OH DEAR...OH DEAR......YET ANOTHER SO CALLED "CELEBRITY".....KNOWN ONLY TO A FEW THOUSAND BASEMENT DWELLERS MUMMYS BOY GAY MEN THIS TIME ---WHO SUCCESSFULLY FUCKED UP HIS LIFE, FOUND SPIRITUALISM, WRITES A BOOK, AND THEN SPENDS THE REST OF HIS LIFE LECTURING EVERYBODY ELSE.......!!!!!!!!
Favorite story of all doctor who for me. Love the acting from Troughton.
I wonder if Pauline remembers my uncle Chris Ferriday, he did some episodes of are you being served and dr who?
I do say in B7 having a female arch-enemy and female arch-villain, in the form of Servalan and also she as a villain outshines female villains in other sci-fi series like Dr Who such as Lady Adrasta, Madame Karela, Karla, Lady Peinforte, Morgaine, the Rani and Eldrad good as these female villains were in classic Dr Who they do not match or overshadow female arch-villain Servalan in B7 not even the Borg Queen in STNG comes close. I also say with B7, having a female arch-enemy in the form Servalan, was awesome and she was not to be messed with with and she was a more interesting villain and character than the male villain Travis who started out well in series A but sadly went to pot in series B because the original actor did not return for series B a shame . I say Brian Croucher, when he came into B7, really should have been cast in the role of an entirely new character with a new name and had that been the case it would have been better for Brian Croucher to play an entirely new character and also series B would have been billions of times better than it was.
This tv series of Poirot is a beautiful art and very enjoyable, I hope my grand children will watch them and enjoy as much as me !❤
Really love watching you guys (from a very long term Doctor Who fan), I’m surprised your videos haven’t got more views to be honest. Would really like you all to cover RTD2 though and share your thoughts, any chance?
Frazer Hines is just hilarious! You can tell he really has a soft spot in his heart for Deborah Watling. No wonder they dated for a time after she left DW.
Philip Jackson is an excellent & under rated actor
she was brilliant as Romana I and fantastic in the gritty film The Odessa File
I was friends with his son back in the 80s and early 90s, and met Roger numerous times. He was exactly as he comes across on this video; intelligent, softly spoken, and infectiously interested in things. Absolutely lovely chap. I was saddened to hear of his passing.
Hugh Fraser as Hastings was (is) marvellous. When he's missing, his absence is felt - deeply. 💜💜💜
I say.
Interesting to hear my old friend Bernard speaking
Actually in Dubai there is even LGBTQ tourism because that Sultan looks the other way. Dubai is the Las Vegas of Arabia.
I saw a comment on UA-cam someone saying they have mission to the unknown
Why is she not on screen?
He's fit
William des Préaux was my 25th great grandfather. Richard had to ransom him out of jail.
Amber alert was placed on the Doctor. Did anyone else in the US catch that?
Hugh is so suave and the real deal as Captain Hastings. ❤
Just rewatched this, totally agree with Paul’s comments on the show’s escalating obsession with its own continuity. It’s killing the show. Ironically, the episodes from the 60s seem like a breath of fresh air when compared to a lot of the modern era stuff.
Still say Hugh Fraser ❤the best...sorry to say better than David Suchet.
Great Band, love ShoWaddyWaddy
Loved him in "Hercule Poirot." I've incorporated some of his signature idioms into my repertoire, one of which is "I sayyyyyy." He has this wonderful way of drawing out a word. Thank you Hugh Fraser for so many enjoyable hours watching you and David Suchet on Poirot!
One of the best narrators ever! ❤
Stunning lady at the intro looks uncannily like the late Nicola Pagget!
Oh, I so wish they were all back together. Wonderful , each one!!
Love Pauline Moran’s portrayal of Miss Lemon! How nice to learn more about her many talents and interesting life. Since we weren’t privileged to get to see her in this interview, I was able to really appreciate what a beautiful voice she has - and her diction & vocal variety was perfect. Very pleased to listen to.
Hugh Fraser - what a multi talented man! Thank you for bringing out all the facets of his talents. You’re a good interviewer. (And I enjoyed hearing Mr Fraser’s birds tweeting in the background. And speaking of background, Mr Fraser standing in front of a totally white background was very effective.)
Good interview: intelligent questions and intelligent answers. I like the give and take between the two of you. You really listen to each other.
How great to see Philip Jackson as himself. What a great sense of humor! And of course I love, love, love his Inspector Japp!
Rip
RIP David Graham
I hope Hugh knows how much he is loved with his audio readings for those of us of a certain age who rely on audio on our iPads. Thank you Mr. Fraser, some of us prefer the audio to the TV series and I personally prefer him readings these to Suchet’s readings.
U really cheered me Terry after a depressing day , walking on a roundabout looking for a bus stop which I couldn’t find . I went to Tunbridge Wells to have look at the Spa valley line train. It was a class 50031, and a squadron steam train , I’m also a train enthusiast Terry .
I have loved her since Teachers. We share the same birthday!
Great singer and entertainer, and we first met on the set of Casualty
