- I couldn't believe the comments I received! People have been complaining in the comments of my videos, saying that my thumbnails use too much click bait!
In this video, I am on the beautiful Colombian coast in the city of Cartagena and I wanted to respond to some of your comments on my recent videos, while showing a little bit of Colombia.
Do you think that my videos are clickbait? Do my thumbnails or titles bother you? Let me know in the comments below. The problem is that clickbait is unreasonably effective and it is very hard to have a youtube channel when nobody is clicking on your videos.

I love your videos Karen. I don't think the thumbnails are clickbait in a bad way. It's just like headlines in a newspaper or website. Appealing to what a reader might find interesting, so they will read the article. People will always complain about something.

Oh, don't listen to the naysayers unless it is someone you respect. There will always be people who like to complain. Those more "clicky" thumbnails are what the majority of youtubers use to catch your attention and there is nothing wrong with that, the content of your videos is more important and your videos are fantastic! Keep it up!
I think your thumbnails are fine And i usually enjoy the content although i rarely watch anything over 15 min, just to busy.

Just to let you know: Didn’t watch your last videos anymore because of those pictures shown - too sad too much drama (I expected you to be happy in Colombia?) I’m definitely not into watching. I loved your earlier videos being so positive although honestly not covering up any sh*t and because of those I subscribed to your channel. This has been changed when you started to focus on how to get more views by adding problems and drama. So sorry about that! And no there’s nothing wrong with gaining more money! Just I don’t like the way you have chosen 😉

Then again, I’m an established follower and I know you’re always trying to attract new viewers. Someday, I’ll have to start my own UA-cam channel and then I’ll know. 😂

Karen I enjoy your videos and have never considered any of your thumbnails as clickbait. To me, clickbait is when the thumbnail has nothing to do with the content or is the complete opposite. A visually appealing thumbnail + caption + title is what drives views. Like you said, it must have something to pull the viewer in or you won't get any views. The people complaining must not have any idea of how difficult being a YT creator is or just how much time and effort is involved. You were one of the first channels I subscribed to and I'm still glad I did, keep it up! ☮️❤️😎

Your videos are always great with or without clickbait. If posting a video on UA-cam with clickbait will help get you more views, I say go for it. Your videos are thoughtful and informative. Well worth the watch.

My advice to you is, continue doing your videos and ignore the bad comments, just make sure you follow all of You Tube's rules and focus on your work and happiness in our beautiful colombia. 👍

I've been watching your videos for a long time, and I haven't noticed your titles being more clickbait-y. The thumbnails have been relevant to the videos. One thing I might recommend, though, would be to have the "Learn Spanish With Me - ThriveInSpanish" on a graphic that would show over part of the video instead of having it be something you describe fully in every video. If you had it at the corner or the bottom over the last 30 seconds of each video, people could still get directed to your site, and it may help engagement(because having it mentioned in the middle of your videos can cause people to leave your videos in the middle to go to your website, which may hurt your UA-cam metrics for the video and may cause UA-cam to suggest your videos less). It can also help people stay more engaged in the topic of the video they're watching.
And I guess my comment got caught by the UA-cam spam filter and deleted because I kept putting the full address of your website, so this time I posted the comment without the full address, but I would recommend putting the full address of your ThriveInSpanish domain in the graphic.

Click-bait is really a thumbnail and title that doesn't deliver the goods. So, if you deliver on the thumbnail and title then it's not click-bait. (also if it's misleading and or dishonest) I've not noticed these things (not delivering, misleading, or dishonest) in your videos. Something that is going out of fashion is the overdone facial expressions people like to use. Keep doing you, evolve.

I always watch and enjoy your videos. Your thumbnails don't influence me but they seem honest enough and to the point. I'm always delighted anytime I see a new thumbnail from you. Some UA-cam channels are so dishonest in their use of thumbnails that I no longer watch any of them on general principle. I appreciate the challenges you face as a video creator. There are probably thousands of UA-cam creators who made a few videos, maybe a dozen, and then have given up, their last video dating to 6-8 years ago. Some of the people made quality videos, so you are doing better than many. You deserve at least 10,000 views and likes for every video, but that is a much tougher goal than it should be. I can't understand why so few people who watch a video don't give it a like. Sometimes less than one percent on some channels. It costs nothing to like a video, but some viewers may not realize that. And it costs nothing to subscribe, there are no strings attached, and I think a person can subscribe to up to 1800 channels, which is a total that I can't imagine anyone ever reaching. Continue making videos as long as you enjoy the process. At least it is one way to remind people about your Spanish classes. Eventually you may be able to break through and begin growing again and get to that 100,000 subscriber plateau. I'll be watching when you do.

No, I don't believe your thumbnails are click-bait. Ok, maybe there is a "tiny" bit of click-bait in a thumbnail because you want to get the clicks so people will watch your content. That is how people find you, watch you, help monetize you. You are 100% correct in everything you said here. What makes a video TRUE clickbait is a thumbnail that pulls you in, then after watching the video, it hasn't delivered what it advertised and has nothing to do with the thumbnail, title, etc. In my opinion, THAT is clickbait and is only out there to get a click without delivering on what was promised. YOUR videos, Karen, fulfill a promise. You share your life, experiences, and culture. Btw, I finally just found out how to hide or ban haters from our channel. LOL Three, so far. You just keep on making your videos. ❤
It's a fine line between good marketing and click bait. The difference for me is...
Good marketing tells you about the video in an exciting way...maybe a little over excited..
Click bait lies about the videos topic and content.

My vote is that you cartoon this problem and actually make a real click bait spoof/blooper video with all the terrible elements of a click bait video that you can get into a shorter video. Maybe you can do a cross over video with Kevin and Jenny on it? The city you are in looks so different compared to Manizales! Safe travels to you two.

Clickbait is something very subjective I think..
First let me get my disclaimer I'm using voice recognition so any run-on sentences for mispronounced words perhaps inappropriate word in a saying it's because of that not me.
As others have commented hear clickbait is when the thumbnail has nothing to do with the video inside will I would like in the thumbnail is like the cover on a novel cover on the novel he could be the best novel ever written in the world but if people don't pick up the book and look inside you'll never know it and it's the cover unfortunately that draws most people to that novel keep up the work I will be excited to see the videos about Colombia

I hate clickbait too, but I never really thought of you as being guilty of doing that. I think the fact that you have moved to Columbia has added more interest to your channel. I think its a popular topic for many people who are considering where they should live in these crazy times. I know its the case for me. I am retired from Canada and living in Mexico for 18 months now. the exchange rate of the CAD$ to peso keeps getting worse. in Nov 2021 it was 17.2 pesos = $1. now it's only 13.6 pesos = $1. so in a different way I am experiencing the same issue as you... that things are becoming more expensive. Columbia is looking like a better and better option. I was already watching many videos about it before I noticed that you had moved there. one of the tough things about youtube now is there is so much competition from other channels. and we can only watch so many videos. you have to do something to stand out such as with thumbnails.

That’s insane because for 100,000 views would only receive $500.
