Excellent video. Step by step told in an everyday mechanic’s language. Thanks for working on a real jeep in real environments, not some sterile garage with a pretty, clean Jeep.
Although, I wish you would have shown some of your wrestling the box into place. I swear it took me 1/2 hour and I swore so much I think I lost my religion.
Terrific video.
Thanks Ted. There would have been a lot of voice censoring if I included footage of reinstalling the heater box. That thing is very bulky and awkward to get into position for sure. There's a lot going on to get it into place.
Awesome video that has saved me so much time and energy, now I can start replacing mine.
Glad it helped. Hope it goes smoothly.
Awesome video. Good angles and perfectly descriptive. Thanks bro
Thanks! It was an easy job once you know where the “hidden” studs are on the firewall.
Excellent video! Thank you for the clear instructions!
You're very welcome
Thanks man, this is gonna make doing mine easy this weekend
Welcome. It wasn’t a difficult job at all. Other than cutting the firewall for the larger blower.
Excellent video, thanks.
You're welcome man!
The starter solenoid wasn't grounding on my 87 4.2. so I had a no power situation. So when I discovered it was the starter solenoid not being grounded because the screws that were mounting it had wallowed out their holes and weren't tight, of course I moved it a couple inches and drilled new holes.... Directly into my heater core 🤷♂️😂 so after watching this video now I know exactly how to replace it thank you
Ouch. Man that's some bad luck. But if it's the original heater core from 87', its probably time to change. Glad the video helped.
@@Hvacoffroad ended up taking it out this afternoon took probably 15 minutes total thanks again. Mine ended up flexing a little bit and snagging the far passenger side stud on the sheet metal with its threads . I couldn't figure out what the hell was hanging it up, after I finally figured it out I popped it with a hammer and punch and the unit came free 😁
James Campbell, Son of bitch I think that is what I did.
Perfect explanation video for a quick repair, anyone else notice thats not a jeep motor? Hows thats thing drive with the swap?
That 5.3 works real well with the YJ. More power an better mpg. I’m planning a second LS swap into another jeep.
@@Hvacoffroad does the ls play well with the jeep trans or does it need to be swapped as well? I have a 92 wrangler 4.0 H.O. but still want more power and was thinking about a turbo ls swap
@@austinnesslage1375 I sold my ax15 and used the 4l60 that came with the donor truck and got a 241c from the salvage yard. I do miss driving a standard transmission since the swap. But love the power. I think the new drivetrain is about 150lbs lighter too.
@@Hvacoffroad dam, well thanks man. I definitely couldn't swap away from stick shift though id probably have the find a stick shift trans to swap in
@@austinnesslage1375 they sell adapters for the ax15 to mate up. Kinda wish I went that route.
nice
Yeah, it wasn't nearly as difficult as replacing other heater cores. If i didn't upgrade the blower motor, the replacement process would have been a breeze.
Is there an obvious difference in performance with the upgraded blower motor?
Yes, this new blower moves a lot more air. It should have came from the factory like this.
I read that yjs after 91 use a different blower motor will this upgrade still work
I do not know the answer to that one. Sorry
Great vid. What’s that funnel?

Is there any difference in difficulty between the 4.0 versus the 2.5?
I haven’t owned the 2.5 engine, but I know the dash is identical to the 4.0. So I think this would be very similar.
So my cowl vent tube was completely full of sand. I cleared it out i dont have to replace the core?
@@ExtremeWeatherGroup that’s great news if that’s your only issue. If you’re not leaking antifreeze, then I would think your core is fine.
@@Hvacoffroad I smelled a really strong scent inside the cabin but I don't think I'm leaking anything. Hopefully I stop smelling it now that it's cleaned outb
What year blazer for the blower upgrade ?
It was a 70's blazer I believe. P#35587 on amazon. Four Seasons brand.
How long did it take you from start to finish?
If I didn't have issue cutting the hole in firewall for the larger blower, probably 3-4 hours from start to finish, including beverage breaks.
You forgot to secure the heater core with the two screws you removed at 6:56. The bottom of the scroll cage should be sealed with RTV or you will get leaks on the floor. Some water/condensation will make all the way from the fresh air intake. That is reason for the drain tube, not justly to let you know when the heater core is leaking.
I wish I was able to secure the core with the original screws. The replacement core I got didn’t have provisions to accept the old screws. I different manufacturer may have the tabs to accommodate.
