Thanks Jim. I assure you that you will face all the issues or most of them I faced. I made these videos to help others as much as possible. I love the old jeeps so hopefully these videos make it easier for others to keep them alive! Take your time. I’m going on 2.5 years with mine! Thanks for the comment.
That depends. The aftermarket cables lack in quality in my opinion unless you spend some big dollars on some cables I found on Morris 4x4 (only place I've seen them). I bought the cheaper aftermarket cables and ended up using them because I bought them but I would recommend using the factory cables if they still work and are in good shape. I live in North Georgia and if I lived further south I would probably take my heater out all together and just bypass the heater core lines. I've never been super happy with my heater/cables even after the rebuild. The upgraded blower motor fan is impressive don't get me wrong but the cables make it frustrating at least for me.
JD one more question (I hope) about the heater. Is the heater motor sealed so you can't disassemble it? I've seen a number of videos where guys restore old power tools and do some really nice work rebuilding the electric motors. Didn't know if it was feasible to rebuild the original heater motor. Thanks Jim
It’s sealed and I never thought of trying to rebuild it. Mine worked I just wanted the upgrade for a more powerful motor. Night and day difference between the two. Thanks for the comment.
Thank You Great post very helpful. I am about to drill the 3.5" so I watched your video again and notice that the small hole to the left of the big hole is not there....The hole for the power connection looks filled in on your jeep, is that on part 2?
The small hole is still there, it is just taped over and was covered with Line X when I had that done as I took my heater out for them to be able to get up higher on the interior firewall. I do remember having to drill out the smaller hole as well and did so just by rubbing a drill bit up and down and pushing to the side as opposed to trying to make the hole larger. It wasn't off by much. Good luck with your project!
Hi, i have to replacement the heater core so, i'm thinking also to upgrade the blower motor following your video instruction. is it worth changing? Is the improvement very noticeable? thank you
No question that the new motor is more powerful and works better. Was it worth it? Looking back I would say it is but I think it depends on how cold it gets where you are and how much you drive the Jeep. My Jeep is a 2nd vehicle for me so I tend to not drive it as much during the winter months. I'll also say that even with new cables and the new motor, I still struggle to get the cables right as the aftermarket cables are not that great. It will blow some hot air though! If I lived in Florida I would probably take the entire heater out and just bypass it!! I'm in North Georgia so it still gets cold enough here to keep it in place. Thanks for the comment and good luck with your upgrade.
I had the same problem you have same exact motor but my only question is the cables that you you got for the delivers to open and close the doors for the heat to go through and stuff where'd you get those things from cuz they only told me that they had a certain type of blue cable I have no idea what they were talking about they didn't, can since I got everything down to Mars replace the cable so they open and close smoothly can you give me those numbers for those cables
I ordered the cable kit from Morris 4x4 and honestly they don't work great. I don't think anyone makes a cable that will ensure the smoothness you are looking for. I literally have to use my hand at the junction where the cable attaches to the heater to operate it. Go to Morris 4x4 and search cables. You will also see a company that has what look to be super high quality cables but they are really pricey. They might give you that smooth operation. Good luck and thanks for the comment.
@@JDOffline yes night at the last minute I didn't realized that I too have to cut through the firewall hopefully I can do just as good as job as you did and thank you very much for the info on the Amorous the cables not sure if I'm going to do it but at least I know I can go go to website to look at it. 😎
I looked on rock auto to get the motor and it says the pm102 is for a vehicle without air conditioning.... Should I get the pm102 or find one with air conditioning?
DSC_Panth mine is the one without air conditioning. Does your Jeep have ac?? If it does not sure the difference. Might want to hit the cj forum. Thanks for the question.
Looks like it has been a year since you did this upgrade. Curious if you are happy with it? Was the work to do the motor upgrade worth it? Any thing you would do different? Thanks for sharing this is my winter project this year. Doug
Thanks for the comment Doug. Honestly I wouldn’t do it any differently. It’s a much needed upgrade and I’ve been very happy with it. It’s a pain to get the heater box out but once I did that the rest of it went fairly smooth. Check out part 2 as well! Let us know how it goes!
Have some more questions if you don't mine. How well does the new motor mounting plate fit to the air box, is it a bolt up or did you have to drill new holes? And Did you do any electrical changes, wiring or drilling a new hole for the motor pig tail?
VDO# PM102 is the correct motor for this but it is actually listed as WITHOUT A/C.
Thanks.
Nice job, I'm about to take possession of a 1980 CJ7 and I'm pretty sure I will be dealing with many of the same issues. Thanks for the ideas.

Thank you can't tell you how much this helped.
Thank you!!! I'm glad it helped.
My 1979 CJ7 will need the same fix. I thought it was my switch but that checks good. So the blower motor must be kaput
Sounds like it. Hope this video helps you walk through the process. Thanks for the comment and for checking out the video. JD
thanks JD
You're welcome! JD
Thanks for the details. Making these changes to my CJ7. Cheers... Mike!
Thanks Mike!!
Great video. I need to do mine as well. I appreciate the much needed help with your info. Thanks again!
Thanks Chad!

Did you do part 2 of the your heater motor yet curious to see if it actually came together well
Yes, part 2 is on my channel. Here is a link: ua-cam.com/video/EQ0jhVYQjiE/v-deo.html

Hi JD it's Taffey. Going to be doing the same to my CJ5 but I can't find your part 2. Can you post a link?
Hey Taffey, I can post a link in the video description but if you go to my channel you will see part two. I have a jeep playlist there.

Simple bolt up and no wiring changes. The existing wiring just plugs into the new blower motor.
Did you use the Blazer Blower Motor?
Yes. The part number is in the video when I walk through all the parts I used.
