  • I made this video because I could not find much info about how I wanted to have hands free steering on this kind of kayak . I hope this helps out for anyone trying to set up the same kind of thing. Many thanks to my daughter for helping by taking the video!

    Well done Mark and thanks for making this one for us! And kudos to your daughter; she should be a filmmaker. 🙂

    Nice hatch installI, and trolling motor DIY.. I have my 2021' Hoodoo Impulse 10.5. It has the rear hatch, for my rudder, and power pole or electric motor, accesss. Bow hatch that opens for more storage. But I did add a 12" round hatch behind my seat for access to my hull. But I would definitely spray that complete hatch black. And I added window trim and water proof silicone, to all my hatches. Have never had a drop of water, in my hull or hatches. Good luck bro. 🙏 😎 🎣

    Thanks for posting this video. I like the "Sea-Lect Designs Kayak Recreational Footbrace w/ Rudder Control" you choose. Being that is it on a rail it looks like it has a good range for the feet placement? Meaning, it looks like the foot pedals could be much closer to the seat or they could be really far away towards the bow. This would be a good setup for shorter and taller folks allowing them to adjust for their size.

      After using that style rudder control I was surprised at how much it can be adjusted. Even after the cables are in place the foot pegs have lots of spots to position them. If you share your kayak with others they will have plenty of room to move them for their comfort. Thank you for watching!

    Nice video. I'm contemplating the same set up for my outlaw. On the foot steering, is it not possible to run the metal cables through the inside of the yak? Could you post a quick follow up video showing the motor set up at work? Thanks

    • @markjstoneful
      @markjstoneful  2 роки тому +1

      I was also trying to look at ways to run the cables through the inside. My concerns were that they might have a few spots that they would have been rubbing and I would not be able to see it and where I would bring them up through deck near the foot controls might have been kind of in the way. I was also trying to keep the walking area in front of the seat a clear as possible for standing and walking. I defiantly plan on doing a video as soon I get out on the water! Thank you for the questions and thanks for watching!

      Yes. Use air tubing or nylon tubing as a liner.

    Any thoughts after the test on water or after regular use? Great video by the way. I saw another mounting video where the guy ran the two cables into the same I bolt mounted on the motor. Bringing them close helped increase turning.

      Great question! I find it a bit tricky to unlock the motor to tilt it. I have to pull on that rope at just the right angle. Now that I know that it's not bad. That could be the way I bent that rod. To the battery box I did add remote battery charging posts so that I don't need to take the cover off the box. I also added a battery level meter. However my fish finder also shows the voltage. Before I did this project I did see the video on how the two cables were run together but I find the turning with this set up is fine. Thanks for watching!

    Use a dremel to cut the hatch opening.

    Great video! One question though (maybe I missed something) what did you use to release the motor lock?

    • @markjstoneful
      @markjstoneful  4 місяці тому +1

      Hello, I believe you are wondering about tilting the motor and how I released that. I used a rod and bent it. Drilled a hole in it and put a key ring through the hole. I attached rope so I could pull it from the seat. This has not worked well for me at all. I will be changing this design in the late spring and will post a short video of this.

    What is the bracket that you’re using to raise & lower the motor out of water

      I made it out of a 3/8 stainless steel rod. I heated it up to be able to bend it

      @@andrewarias1420 For the Outlaw the manufacturer says the max capacity that you can load onto the kayak is 425lbs. This would include everything your weight, fishing poles, motor mount, motor, tackle boxes etc.

    You totaly used them well nuts incorrectly on your hatch and where did you find the 1 inch cutting board

    • @markjstoneful
      @markjstoneful  2 роки тому

      Thank you for watching and picking up on the install of the well nuts. I did the install according to the manufactures instructions. I also noticed that it is not the normal way they would be installed. I believe they instructed them to be installed like this because where the holes in the kayak need to be drilled that area is to narrow for the holes to be drilled big enough. The cutting board can be found on many different websites. I just did a Google search and started shopping

    Why not ditch the half of the steering bolt attachment that does not have the bolt and just bolt the two halves with the bolts together? That way the bolts are at the same level and not staggered. Just an idea.

    • @markjstoneful
      @markjstoneful  11 місяців тому

      That would also work. You would just need to buy 2 nuts as the side that has the bolt is not threaded just the other half is.
