Another great job! So many mods for this kayak is just emphasizing how great it is to fish with! I'm looking for a used one now. I can't wait to put some of these ideas on my own!
Great video, I love that you didn’t edit out the mistakes to make it seem like it was a quick and flawless install. One suggestion I’d make for that deck plate is to make it 3-4” longer than the boat. That way you can cut in a carry handle into the front. It would also give you enough material to make a “sandwich “ plate and not have to use well nuts or drill extra holes in the boat. Just add some spacer blocks where the gap is for the carry handle and in front of the handle so that you can use another piece of UHMW to sandwich the existing handle. That would secure the front of the plate without drilling or using clamps. Best of luck this season buddy.
That's a great idea . I may end up changing it, still waiting for the ice to melt so I can test it out. I've definitely been wondering how it will hold up if it accidentally hit something. I really appreciate the feedback. Tight lines 🎣
Thanks for the video!!! Getting ready to start this install myself, will reference this frequently. Really like your use of less expensive items instead of the overpriced items targeted at kayaks.
Nice video I just got done doing the same motor on my 11.5. I just got done with it this weekend then saw your video lol. Haven’t had it in the water yet but I’m excited. Thanks for making the video
Thanks for watching..I'm still waiting to get mine out to test. (Been over 2 months). But the ice should be gone this week so I look forward to testing it next weekend. Tight lines 🎣
I’m a little worried about how it’s going to balance out. I got the 100 hour Dakota lithium battery in the back. Hope it’s ok. I really don’t want to buy another one. You should make a video when you get it in the water. Thanks again.
That is slick. You definitely need to post a video in action once you can get on the water. The advantage for the bow mounted trolling motor like this is being able to stand and use the remote to steer. Most of the time, you can set the direction and fish while moving slowly. I have a stern mounted trolling motor on my Outlaw 11.5 with toe steering pedals installed. So, I have to stay seated to steer while moving. I love it though. I am hands-free except the occasional adjustment to the speed on my PWM controller. I too have the breaker where I can reach it for the trolling motor. You will need to install front navigational lights. I just use a Vizipole for my 360 in the back. I have it in one of the rod holders on my crate. I did the same thing and watched videos on UA-cam and basically picked pieces of what I watched t put together my own install. I think I could do it again and have a much cleaner look...not to mention it would be much easier to do in a shorter time frame. I have a 100ah Lithium battery and that is a bit overkill. I can fish for 10hrs and still have just over 50% left...that is fishing with winds in the 12-15mph range. I can cover a ton of water on one charge. I have never come close to running out of juice. I am curious to hear how it performs in wind and chop...does the front get swamped too much and does the back end spin around too much...that will be interesting to compare to a stern mounted motor on this kayak.
I'm definitely excited to test it.the weather up here is getting colder again so it may still be a couple months yet before I can test.im glad to hear how long your battery lasts .I'm typically on the water for 10 or 12 hours. Mine isn't lithium but I'm hoping to get a full day. Only one way to find out. I will definitely be making a video of my test run as soon as this ice is gone. Thanks for watching and tight lines 🎣
I bought a outlaw a few months back I installed the Xi3 Motor-guide in the front as well. I didn’t screw down the front(I copied 334tactical) but I didn’t like just leave the front lip without securing it to the kayak. I also didn’t want to screw more holes as well where I didn’t have access from the hull. So I used heavy duty marine sealant and clamped it down for a good solid 12 hours and also use black silicone heavy duty all purpose for the final touch to make it look pretty lol! It’s super solid! The way I did it almost looks like the bracket was made with the kayak!
Im glade that worked for you. I had a tournament last month where the waves got crazy. I came down from one wave and the well nuts in the front let go i had to go back to shore and zip tie together
@@summertonfishing119 damn that’s terrible. I use heavy duty marine sealant clamps than I sealed it with heavy duty silicone for extra support. Expensive but it won’t go anywhere! And it’s extra waterproof!
I also upgraded to the more expensive Mount. Which allows a lot more areas to Mount the front. I’m going to eventually add an extra support strap in the front just cause I can but haven’t got that far yet!
The wiring I used in the video I don't recommend. ended up rotting out on me. I ended up running 6 gauge welding cable and I have no problem since. Picked up from a local electrical supplier.
Hey I’m going to be putting a trolling motor on my outlaw also. I’m curious as to why you chose to put on the front instead of the molded area on the back. I’ve been watching a lot of different videos and seen both thanks
@@summertonfishing119 thanks that’s the answer I needed to hear because I didn’t think of that until you said it. Thanks a lot for the input. I will definitely be stealing some of your ideas
Absolutely steal away! Lol...one thing to consider...i am about to rewire the kayak tomorrow because the wire i used off Amazon got water in the wire casing. Spend the money on good soild core 6ga wire
@@summertonfishing119 That is good to know. What about fishing. Does the bow mount get in the way? Could you weigh the front down with something else, e.g. battery in waterproof box, anchor? Any updates on issues? Thank you for doing this video, by the way. Informative
I did this to my outlaw and noticed the motor was just too heavy in the front it would easily dive under waves from boats, even with battery in the back. I then mounted a 12 volt brushless TM on the back with foot controls. i fish the gulf a lot and didnt want saltwater constantly dousing my motor
I appreciate the info. I still have about 2 months before the ice is gone here,so it will be awhile before I can test it.thats what I was afraid of which is why I chose lead acid instead of lithium. I was hoping it would offset the weight 😕
Can you publish the rough dimensions of the front base for the motor? I have an Outlaw 11.5 on order and want to have a base ready for the front when it finally gets here. I really only need to know what size board of 1/2 inch HPDE to order from Amazon, is 12”x12” sufficient? I will make my own template with cardboard to cut it. (My mount will be just a basic one for a 55lb Newport with Autoboat.) Thanks, nice video.
The pin locks in and also has a spot for a suit case lock if worried about it . Just finished my first tournament in some insane weather and handled very well 👌
@@summertonfishing119 awesome. Good to know. I’m a bigger guy with a pacemaker 260 6,1 and been looking for a stable kayak one that I can modify to add something to the stern . Thank you
This is certainly a great kayak at the price point for stability and definitely better suited for a stern mount motor then a bow mount.(easier to install then a bow and better balance)
I have a deck plates in the same front area however I am a pretty skinny dude but I am having a lot of trouble being able to reach through the deck plate in order to ratchet the two inside bolts down. How did you go about it or any advice?
It certainly wasn't easy. I had to put my arm in on an angle to the bow and bent at the elbow as if i was carrying something, and then gently forced my forearm through the hole 🕳

Where did you source you wire that you are running throughout the hull, and what gauge did you use?

I just finished mine today.. i watched your video countless times.. what size and length bolts did you use for the front?
Hey I’m going to be putting a trolling motor on my outlaw also. I’m curious as to why you chose to put on the front instead of the molded area on the back. I’ve been watching a lot of different videos and seen both thanks
Due to the hull design. It is much easier to control in the wind having a bow mount (I.M.O)

What connections for power to the battery box? The ones you said you wish you would have gotten first time that lock in.

I apologize i just saw this comment. I can get you dimension this weekend if you still need it. Tight lines
What size screws did you end up using.. and how long are they
What size breaker for battery?
I used a 60amp.......im about to redo the wiring this week the stuff i got for Amazon is garbage
So what was the total thickness needed for the pvc mounting board plate?
I went with 1" you could get away with 7/8".thanks for watching. Tight lines 🎣
I’d be concerned with the pin sliding out and losing everything.,
