This man saved my life, I was a private adoption and had SpinaBifida. The state told my adoptive mother to either divorce my father or surrender me to the state for suppprt , or put me in a home as I would be retarded (debatable at times lol) and crippled. Everyone turned me down. My mom saw him on a talk show talking about his work with Shriners desperate to save my life she wrote him a letter. A week later he got back to her he sponsored me at Shriners and my 3 million dollar operation. At nine momths I had my surgery. I walk, I am recent amputee but it has made me me able and capable over most able bodied people . This man, a stranger to a little girl long ago saved my life and if angels or saints exsist he is one. My mom, father, and I will ne forever greatful for his kind act. I am now 30 my predicted life span was 2 years. He is a hero. I owe him my life.
GT Tree Trunkz Your story is beyond touching. I'm sure it will be an inspiration for many others who need a Miracle such as yours. Your gratitude shows strength & I applaud you, & Mr. Borgnine.
I'm sure you're right, Ernie was a saint of a man. I'm just as sure you are a beautiful lady, and not retarded in the least-- I know retarded! As I keep truck driving all these years, that would make me the retarded one!
People and actors like Ernie are running extinct nowadays. I don't care for the crowd of actors these days, so arrogant! Like you, I'm thankful for the memories Mr. Borgnine left us.. RIP Ernie.
What an honor it must have been to receive an Academy Award that year in 1955 for Ernest Borgnine to be in the company of Hollywood heavyweights and to come out on top. What a remarkable man! RIP Mr. Borgnine.
@@jameshuseby6290 Being a good human being doesn't count for winning an Oscar. Incredible you haven't figured that out by now. The OP is correct, he was a lesser actor than all the others yet still won. Some say it's because Burt Lancaster had pull and it was all politics. I say he gave a marvelous performance on that film. But don't delude yourself. The world doesn't work based on who is a better human being.
I'm good friends with Karl Urban and he told me that it was such a thrill and honour working alongside Ernie. Karl said Ernie was a true gentleman and was very kind to Karl.

Many years ago I was driving a taxi and a man stepped off the kerb and hailed me. It was Ernie, he was holidaying in the city I live in. He was with his wife, I took them to their hotel. What an amazing experience. This lovely man with his wonderful smiling kind face and nature.
It's possible that of the 35 Million human beings who have been put to death by the U.S military since 1945 that some of their surviving relatives recognise the connection between war propaganda salesmen, like Borgnine and many other 'actors', and the blight that the United States is upon humanity and chose to thumb down the video - a 243 year old nation that has been at war for 224 of those years (93% of its existence) You wont see it yourself since those that organise your life for you also took the liberty of educating your grand parents and parents before you - enjoy your brainwashed dystopia an remember 2 planes can cause 3 steel towers to 'collapse' at free fall speed symmetrically into their own footprint - that's normal.
One of the classiest men that's ever come through Hollywood. His performance as Dutch Engstrom in The Wild Bunch is one of my favorites of all time. A fierce bad man with a code and more humanity than those chasing he and his partners.
Borgnine will always be remembered for his outstanding performances in From Here To Eternity- brilliant work opposite Sinatra and Monty Clift; and his wonderful Marty. These films are shown constantly and his is simply superb.
A person with rare character and blessed all those around him by who he really was.A great human being. They don't make them like that any more.RIP my brother.Love Bob L.
I am so in awe of this man. His ideals for his fellow man and country are beyond inspiring. The younger generations are in such need of a man like Ernest Borgnine. His positive outlook on life gave us so many more years to enjoy his work, interviews and wisdom.
as an aussie even though i was only 6 when he died i felt alone and i almost cried while watching (im 14 ) and such a humbled gentle man and would of loved to of met him rest easy ernie my idol for acting
I had a co worker that was in the roofing business years ago. told the story of doing a roof in California on a hot blistery day. In the worst heat time the crew was called down by the homeowner demanding they sit in the shade and drink lemonade. It Was Ernest Borgnine. He said an amazing , caring, thoughtful man.
One of the greatest character actors of all time. Some of the finest films ever made have this incredible man in them, making them even better. Continue to rest easy pal. RIP
Ernie was more than an actor. He was far more than any screen character he performed. Ernie was a MAN..A REAL MAN. A proud veteran. A humble, kind, considerate human being. He never forgot his roots or the common man. Long after he has risen with the angels. Long after his films are forgotten, Ernie as a square deal American will be remembered. What a guy!! God Bless, Marty!!
What a great man. Ernie loved the profession and wanted it to continue with the dignity and devotion that he put into it for decades. Ernie may not have received top billing in many of his movies, but he put every ounce into every part, and it showed, many times he out performed bigger stars. I recently watched a documentary about Ernie travelling around the Midwest with his son Chris in his beautiful rv the Sunbum. Ernie was very proud to be an American. RIP Ernie.
Happy Veterans Day to Mr. Borgnine and the rest out there that served or is serving this great Country. Ernie was one of my favorite actors of all time. RIP Ernest
Just pure class and as well deserved as any award to any actor ever. So happy to see this great tribute to a great actor. For a lifetime of entertainment!!!
One of the greats has passed. He came from a different era. His films were wonderful. Oh how the world has changed (and not for the better). Goodbye Ernest...you will always be remembered.
I knew him personally, through my late mom, a former actress, and had a lovely talk with him on the phone three years before he passed. He was the real deal, and so kind and funny. "Don't ever let you daughter smoke!" And of course she said Mermaid Man was on the phone when she answered it. Being little, she was too scared too talk to him!
Nearly every man and woman in that room will never accomplish nor amount to the same quality of person that the decent Ernest Borgnine amounted to. And that at the age of 90-something he could walk up to those steps and speak with such humble clarity is the best gift he could give to everyone. A treasure to be sure.
RIP ernie so few actors still here from your time and but they never had as much dedication as you to film. May you keep making films in the next life buddy x
The only thing that needs to be said about Ernest Borgnine is that he was the best of the Greatest Generation that saved the world and after that, he became one of the greatest actors of all time.
He was a real person whatever t that means. Genuine, grateful, passionate, brought power to the screen and was a real all American who loved his country and never overlooked his roots and his wartime commitments. He certainly left a legacy.
I just love Ernie. Whenever he appears on screen, it gives me that heart-warmin' feeling. (Which does not mean, that he's not a most excellent actor, indeed his is!!) He was always there, like George Kennedy oder Eli Wallach or Bob Hope. I miss him. God bless you, Ernie!!

Beautiful speech from the Heart, so talented and yet so humble and gracious, Mr Ernest Borgnine.❤❤❤
Thank GOD someone had the foresight to honor him before he died !!!
I met Ernie two years before he died. A completely genuinely charming gentleman.
What a life: Navy/WWII veteran, movie and TV actor.
Ernie was one of Hollywood's BEST.

Negative and hard hearted people.
Ignorance manifested
