⚓⭐ Lifelong fan of McHale's Navy & Ernest Borgnine. Had I had a son & a wife's approval, I would have named him Ernest Gino Altano or Gino Ernest Altano. Rest in peace Big Guy.
Mr. Borgnine was a well mannered, and genuinely nice man. How many of today's "stars" would take the time to interact with the general public? I grew up in a little town 40 miles north of L.A. called Santa Paula, and I've had the pleasure of meeting several movie stars who've come into town for a respite from their busy lives and Mr. Borgnine was a true pleasure to meet and have a conversation with. I have terrific memories of our exchanges. He was a decent man and this world is a lesser place without him. May he rest in peace.
You grew up in Santa Paula? My father had a gas station at the very end of town, where the 126 made a dog leg turn into the country highway going to Fillmore. Just a stones throw from the little red school house. Von Dutch and Steve McQueen used to hang out there.
Cris's inheritance was time spent travelling with his dad...that's worth more than any amount of money. Ernest Borgnine really lived life to the fullest. I believe Ernest was ninety-five when he passed. What an amazing, adventures life he lead. Grew up in New Haven area of Connecticut during the Great Depression, served ten years in the US Navy, served during WW 2. I think that`s a pretty full dance card. Great value system and moral compass, also bright with a great sense of humor. God broke the mold when he created Ernie.

I met Ernest Borgnine not 2 weeks after my wife and I hosted a 'Marty Party'. What an unbelievably humble gentleman he was. What a great thrill and an honor it was.
Ernie with son, Chris reminds me of helping my old man around his property (May he rest in peace…with an awesome lawn) as same age and calling out orders to me😂. My pop even wore the “fake” denim blue jeans with a crisp crease & white Jersey. Yup, they are the greatest generation for sure. My ol’ man caught the end of WWII in the navy. God bless these men who taught us “kids” hard work, respect (real respect, not gangsta crap respect. We had to earn it. Thanks Ernie…and my father.
They don’t make them like him anymore. What a kind, humble, gentle man who was a legend in his industry and a lover of his country. This definitely motivates me to travel the same a she did and gave me a new appreciation for youth and health and taught me to count the blessings I do have.
I love watching these videos. Ernie was such a gentleman and he honestly enjoyed talking to all the people he met. I hope I get to meet him someday in the afterlife.
My grandfather was a carbon copy of Mr. Borgnine. He looked, talked, and was built the same, even the split teeth. People used to always mention how much he looked like Mr. Borgnine. We lost my grandfather in 1987 but as long as Mr. Borgnine was around so was my grandfather. I remember watching this and shaking my head at the similarities with Mr. Borgnine driving that bus and knowing my grandfather was himself a truck driver.
Around the time this was filmed my parents and I went on a family vacation trip to Alaska. We were away from home for six weeks. We did a lot of camping in our conversion van on the way up and back. It was quite a trip. I wonder if he ever made it.

I would have loved to have met such a great man. My Dad met many of hollywoods best in the 50's and 60's. I do not recall of him saying he met Ernest Borgnine, he may have. I do remember him saying he met John Wayne. My Dad had several parking lots down town Indianapolis, right by the Athletic club on Pennsylvania Ave. I digress, I want to say to Chris Borgnine, It is so sad we had older parents! My Dad was born in 1918, I know your Dad was born in 1917. My Dad was Navy just like yours. I was born in 60. I don"t know your age, but you look alot younger than me. Let me just say we both had a great Dad! Wish we would have had them longer in our lives! Peace Chris.
Ernie thanked Burt Lancaster, for his lead role in “Marty” (1955). Burt produced the film, and thought Ernie was perfect actor for the role. He won the Oscar, beating out many stars his senior as well as James Dean.
Man I didn't know he past away , just yesterday we went to Montana , and As we we're driving to it , I see an R.V. next to us an I was thinking I will take a look and see if It's him , Well I won't be looking for him any more ... \{^_!}/
My late brother was a transportation coordinator and driver for Universal. He was on many locations with the stars. He said many were egotistical, self-centered, elitists to good for the crews. He said Ernest and his wife would always sit with the crew members. They would bake brownies or cookies to share with everyone. Ernest was down to earth nice guy and was his favorite of them all, and mine. I'm glad you were able to capture and share this.

I enjoyed these immensely! What a wonderful Father & Son trip! God Bless you both!
I so enjoyed the videos...i was so said to learn he had passed..
Wow, that is Awesome! Brings tears to my eyes.

Glad they got to do that awesome trip..im sure his son is grateful he got to do that trip with his dad. I did trips with my dad, and it was some awesome memories made on the road! just a great guy!
I wish there were more travels with Ernest and Chris. I loved this!
Ernie thanked Burt Lancaster, for his lead role in “Marty” (1955).
Burt produced the film, and thought Ernie was perfect actor for the role.
He won the Oscar, beating out many stars his senior as well as James Dean.
God bless him, we miss these old timers
Always loved the way he laughed. Great Man.
Ernest was one of those guys you couldn’t help but like. God Bless him and his family.
He was a class act for sure.
Man I didn't know he past away , just yesterday we went to Montana , and As we we're driving to it , I see an R.V. next to us an I was thinking I will take a look and see if It's him ,
Well I won't be looking for him any more ... \{^_!}/
Thank you Ernie for your wonderful life ♥️ We miss ya
My late brother was a transportation coordinator and driver for Universal. He was on many locations with the stars. He said many were egotistical, self-centered, elitists to good for the crews. He said Ernest and his wife would always sit with the crew members. They would bake brownies or cookies to share with everyone. Ernest was down to earth nice guy and was his favorite of them all, and mine. I'm glad you were able to capture and share this.
Hope ernest was near my dad in s pacific in WW2. 836 Aviation Battalion built roads & airstrips. Went from Australia to Phillipines and alot in between. Lae, Port Moresby, Wakde Island etc. What a guy wish i couldve met him. Thanks for your service sir.
