As someone younger than rarran (I think?) it's also just funny to know the refs even when I have never actively engaged in the references content either lmao
@gameipedia I don't even think CGB is old enough to have engaged with the original content at it's original release time. He's just that type of nerd. Because that stuff is iconic and he went back to watch it. Some people even go back to listen to the star trek radio show (or hitchhiker's guide). This isn't quite that level of dedication.
Academic Espionage, my beloved. If none other than the Dragonmaster himself, Brian 'Don't Call Me 'Brian 'Brian Kibler' Kibler' Kibler loves playing a card, it just can't be bad.
Voidtouched Attendant single handedly made priest the best aggro deck in wild since its release. It also saw play in slower priest decks with 8 mana astalor as a finisher.
Voidtouched is actually insane enough to be in Reno priest in wild. This + Astalor is 28 damage face + 8 damage from pings. I closed out so many games from hand just from this combo.
You can argue Explore Un’Goro saw play because the effect of just replacing your deck was so garbage, if you used another card that (temporarily) swapped your deck with your opponent, then played the card, after the decks swapped back your opponent’s deck was now just filled with garbage that you could even delete with Skulking Geist if you wanted to.
Dirty Rat was the GOAT in control decks back in the day. It was risky in the mirror, but it dumpstered aggro decks like no one's business. Pirate Warrior in particular often lost momentum when Dorty Rat came down and traded two or three to one.
And when playing against a combo deck (exodia mage comes to mind), pulling their antonidas on turn 2 and watching your opponent instant concede was extremely satisfying
Cards like Stockades Prisoner or other "Dormant until X" cards not having Rush or even Taunt absolutely kills them in viability tbqh. The card would've 100% seen play if it could fight for board when it wakes up.
demon hunter has a 5/4 card with rush that awakens when you draw 4 cards, and still didn't see play. the only card that saw play was Imprisoned Felmaw all the way back in ashes of outland
@eroslampitella2629 if we are going to go back to AoO idk why we are going to just lie. The warrior one saw play in literally every list. The Paladin one saw play in every list (most notably Pure Paladin). The Warlock Scrap Imp literally got nerfed.
I know how compartmentalized pop culture references could be, but Rarran telling CGB to find more people to hang out with while HE'S the one who didn't get the Spinal Tap reference is just tasteless
Unseen Saboteur wasn't as bad as Rarran said, it was played in some control decks against other control decks to disrupt, but it wasn't really meta I would say... ~It was definitely better than Audio Amplifier for example.
About dwarf planet: There is a draenei that sets a random spell in your hands cost to its cost (5, without reductions) - so it can technically already be reduced, but I'm honestly thinking even after rotation it's probably too slow to work, unless they really bring some kind of big spell warrior support.
I remember Fel Orc Soulfiend being used in zoolock back in the day. Paired with other threats like flame imps and the 1/5 Mayor guy that gained attack when you summon stuff, turns out opponents couldn't always afford to give Fel Orc Soulfiend a response, so you could easily get 6 or more damage in, and if it was about to die Warlock had cards that would kill it for more value/tempo, or just use Power Overwhelming and kamikazi it against a big taunt (edit: or the opponent's face)
Final Frontier is good, its just no one plays it. The one Druid starship piece will duplicate its effects (gives you random 10 drop, but that's honestly fine with how many good ones there are), and the other starship piece reduces the cost of spells. Play New Heights to get a mana advantage, get them both down, and if your opponent can't kill them both, which the one piece has elusive, then you can actually get multiple 10 drops in your hand before turn 6, and then play them the following turn. While Hearthstone doesn't have a face cam to see your opponents reactions, the multiple rage quits I've seen confirms that they crapped their pants each and every time.
Freebird was actually okay for a brief period of time in handbuff pally cos the charge keyword was at such a premium and the rest of the deck was so broken that extra charge minions with dogshit stats for the cost were actually somewhat playable.
@@mapeus we're in an alternate reality where Blackwing - Mesa Falcon can be discarded from your hand to give +4/+0 to a target attacking or blocking creature
39:11 I'd argue it was a nerf, since the only time that card was played was in meme-y Toggwaggle decks where you replace their deck with Journey to Ungoro then eat it with Skulking Geist when they switch back
Ma'kgora was originally always a fight to the death, but there was a brief time where you were allowed to not fight to the death (while Thrall was Warchief). Then it went back to fighting to the death.
I remember Explore Un'goro often saw play in control warrior as late game play, when you knew your last 7 cards would be board clears or early control so they would do nothing against some other control deck.
Did Rarran seriously include Explore Un'Goro and did NOT talk about the Toggwaggle combo? I thought he was going for that when he said: "What if Choose Your Path was 1 Mana?" !
This was a fun watch because despite playing hearthstone basically since launch, I’ve never once thought about card rarity. Idk why cards even have them besides legendary. Interesting that the second highest rarity has so many bad unplayable cards
A key difference between the DIrty Rat and the MTG stuff CGB was thinking of: When summoned by the rat, battlecries (essentially ETB) don't trigger. A high roll could yoink a key battlecry early on, ruining some combo decks.
About makgora from what I recall there are like 5 cases of it. 1) Sylvanas vs Saurfang(I think that was considered a makgora). 2) Thrall vs Garrosh(I think they did this 2 times) 3) Garrosh vs Cairne 4) Ogrim Doomhammer vs Blackhand 5) Rexxar vs an Ogre lord Also an important point about Macgora is that trickery and magic is not allowed. With that rule being violated left and right(Garrosh was tricked into using a poison weapon against Cairne and Thrall used magic against Garrosh). It also must be noted that while Macgora is a ritualistic dual in orc tradition it does not mean that it is race exclusive. The orcs only care about honor and strength so they do not have an issue if other races participate in that.
Commenting before even watching because im excited to see cards rated that ARENT legendaries. Obviously legendaries are the most crazy things to look at. But there is something cool about just reviewing slightly more standard cards than things that just change the rules of the game when played sometimes.
Hey! Here is an idea for you. On your channel you help Cimooo and CGB draft 3 decks with cards you already revealed for them (maybe even get some cards they thought was overpowered but it wasn't). 51:00 Mak'Gora isn't just for orcs but it is originally an Orcish tradition. It means "Duel of Honor" in orcish and is traditionally a duel to the death but under Warchief Thrall it became a duel to defeat unless both participants agreed to go it the old ways. The traditional rules are a duel to the death, with 1 weapon blessed by a shaman, loincloths only, and each combatant has 1 person they have chosen as a witness though the rules have been modified frequently upon agreement of both parties. To turn down or break the rules of a Mak'Gora is often considered dishonorable thus it can be used as a political tool as both the Tauren and Orcs who are both vital founding races of the Horde highly value honor thus so does most of the horde as a culture. While it is an orcish tradition, since the orcs are the founding race of the Horde (one of the two playable factions in World of Warcraft) it's an honored tradition throughout the entire faction. The two most notable Mak'Gora include: one issued by Tauren High Chieftain Carine Bloodhoof to the at the time Warchief Garrosh Hellscream in which Garrosh Hellscream's chosen shaman Magatha Grimtotem Chieftain of the Grimtotem Tauren had unbeknownst to Garrosh poisoned the edge of Gorehowl Hellscream's weapon, and one issue by High Overlord Varok Saurfang against the at the time Warchief Sylvanas Windrunner in which Sylvanas used magic which is expressly forbidden while it killed Varok Saurfang by breaking the rules of Mak'Gora Sylvanas had lost popular support of the majority of the Horde which allowed Saurfangs rebellion to bring an end to the 4th war with the backing of the Alliance (the other playable faction in World of Warcraft).
While not necessarily Explore Ungoro, Fires of Zin Aszhari did see play in some control warrior decks to blow up your opponent's deck after you swapped with Tony. It's not the intended purpose of the cards, but it DID see experimentation.
Warmaul Challenger also scales unbelievably out of control with any sort of buffs. Even +2/+2 makes it a 3/12 which in the 3/3 scenario proposed leaves you now with a 3/9 instead of a 1/1.
