  • In 2017, Juul catapulted to the top of the e-cigarette market. But the company's valuation has fallen just as quickly, as a series of crises have led to hundreds of lawsuits alleging that the company marketed its products to teens. Photo Illustration: Jacob Reynolds/WSJ

      Unfortunate that 'vaping' could mean anything from using a dry herb vaporizer for medical cannabis, lavender, chamomile, etc, puffing on a black market THC cart laced with vitamin E acetate, or using e-cigarettes. It's really a misleading term that creates a lot of confusion.

    • @SlimTony
      @SlimTony 3 роки тому +18

      @@Pellagrah Well, same as smoking pot or cigarettes... Sacrifices in specificity are necessary for easier understanding, unfortunately
      Also, if you want to know more about the deaths, look up "EVALI" (Electric vaping associated acute lung injury). It's the official medical term for the condition. And it was pretty clear from the get go that this isn't a problem with vaping in general as all the cases happened in the US alone (to my knowledge) and within a short time frame while vaping itself was already established for multiple years.

      You ever try to stop people using a device that does NOT reek like cigarette smoke and can be disguised and hidden quite easily? For decades, there have always been some kids smoking pot and cigarettes in some bold fashion or another. Add in the ease of disguising vaping and the lack of widespread odor, there is very little one can to do stop it. So, how much resources should a school expend fighting very ineffectively against vaping. IMO, what was needed was better laws and better enforcement along with generally more rapid public outrage against the advertising in general AND especially against the teen-oriented marketing.

      They could tax juul. But then they would be getting revenue off the “devil’s product” that tempts kids. Tbh I’m a massive critic of this as well, but I try to understand the other side. I think one difference between juul and cigarettes is that society has done a pretty good job of making cigarettes socially undesirable. They’re available but pretty sure kids these days don’t go after them like they did 30 years ago. Allowing juul’s basically reverses that progress. But even that isn’t a real argument because only adults are supposed to be able to purchase juuls. The real problem is stores not asking for ID. This is the real problem in my mind because if you fix that at least kids need to wait till they’re 21 to start.

      Stardragon Star10 did you do your research cause Juul’s earnings at the rime would’ve been enough to turn Altria’s earnings from stagnant to growing. There was no intent to kill it, the play was to have Altria manage Juul properly and this is most evidenced by the lockup Altria had with Juul that they couldn’t buy or court any other e cigs.

    If kids want to Vape it is their choice. It seems like they want the kids who are vaping to go to cigarettes. It’s all a joke. They don’t care about kids vaping they just don’t want the cigarette industry to go away. This is sad to see that Juul went downhill for supposedly “marketing to kids” when it’s easier for kids these days to buy cigarettes. The people who run the industry and regulations are the ones who thought cigarettes were healthy. All they want is money. Juul has so much potential for a healthier alternative.

I don’t vape nor smoke but this isn’t fair, if this much of a witch hunt was against Juul, companies like Marlboro, camel, etc. should’ve been treated the same. Not in the US but in PLENTY of other countries children under 18 smoke heavy.
