When Witjawan says Indonesia dealt with multipolarity in a good way, he seems to completely ignore the CIA coup that installed Suharto and wiped out millions of his citizens for supporting neutrality.
In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him deal with this issue on the show, which makes the constant passive agreement anti-Sino remarks locate his loyalty in Washington rather than Southeast Asia.
Good interview though. He got Mearsheimer to clearly illustrate the most key points on all of the issues.

Since their is a profound lack of understanding by most of the posters on this web cite, will try to open up your minds. It has long been known by educated people that world wide adherents of Islamic ideology have a goal of expanding into Europe and in truth, every corner of the globe. The population of Europe of people of Islamic faith has dramatically increased since the genocidal wars between Islamic factions in Syria and other Islamic countries about 12 years ago. They are not assimilating into the culture of the hosting country, which is causing significant conflict in many European countries. Islamic ideology is often in conflict with traditional Western culture or Judeo-Christian values. Israel is the first country to stand up to Muslim aggression and advancement. The Israeli people are heroes. They are in the trenches fighting against rapists, murderers, and kidnappers. We know this to be true. If you dislike Jews more than you dislike murderers, rapists, and kidnappers, support Hamas. The majority of decent people in the understand Islamic terror and they know Islam is not your friend. This is the marketplace of ideas. My post is really good.

This is the biggest issue with modern warfare and our current politcal leaders. In the past, when there were kings and queens as leaders, they went to war and their entire families were on the front lines fighting and defending civilians. That entire equation has changed, what we have now is a system where our world leaders never have to put their lives on the line. They sit from afar and press a button and people die. There is a complete imbalance in what war entails and what is risked by those who call for war.

for example, 42:00 gita is correct that zionism was not meant to commit genocide, but john wrongly stated that they know from the start they're going to cleanse the palestinian because they couldnt have established a jewish state among palestinians. well, zionism started in late 19th century was to find homeland for the jews, not to establish a jewish state, therefore it's possible to live side by side as long as they're not praticing apartheid as in the original zionism. first generation of aliyah among zionists in 19th century was relatively peaceful, things gotten worse only since balfour declaration and jewish businessmen (rothschild etc) who bought many lands etc.

He also boasts of manipulating the U.S. in the ongoing peace process, as the Washington Post points out:
"They asked me before the election if I'd honor [the Oslo accords]," he said. "I said I would, but ... I'm going to interpret the accords in such a way that would allow me to put an end to this galloping forward to the '67 borders. How did we do it? Nobody said what defined military zones were. During the cultural revolution for example, China export its marxist revolutionary teachings to many countries, provide training and arms to native armed groups (thus they are known as maoist revolutionaries), host radio stations within China itself for these maoist forces. For example, the Communist Party of Malaya which fought an insurgency against Malaysia's government has its radio station in hunan China.
This only come to an end when Mao died and Deng took over. He decide that China should build economic ties instead of export marxist revolution and ordered these forces to step down. And they did.

Would you please give an example of where China is trying to rewrite the rules?

    • @ChrisZ901
      @ChrisZ901 8 місяців тому

China has been advocating international law based order instead of the (US/Western) rule based order which has been used by US and her allies to attack China. China does not want to be ruled by those laws which in the US's book is rewriting the rules

China is not trying to rewrite rules at all, it just wants to be equal and not be ruled by foreign white imperial power. Most of Asia is the same except they are too weak to resist. This is what he means by "threat", you and I would see it as threat but these global empire fanatics think they own the world and any country can't rule over is considered a "threat"

I think this debate would be a lot fairer and unbiased toward China if Professor Jeffery Sachs and Kishore Mahbubani are also invited. Their opinions would be significantly different from Professor Mearsheimer and that of the moderator.

I think one flaw in Professor Mearsheimer’s theory is that he assumes China will rise and becomes another hegemony like America even though China has been saying no we just want to rise peacefully and peacefully co-exist with other countries, including the neighboring countries.

Fairness does not come alone by introducing opposition. It comes only when those in discussion are willing to cede to someone else for having a valid point of view. Pro-Chinese advocates do not go along with that kind of discourse. It's _all_ CCP or PLA or nothing. Whenever one critiques the CCP, those two entities call it racism. They insist that the party, the army and the people are all one entity.

@@gaslitworldf.melissab2897 on the other hand you have the people who mix the nation, the party in power, and the civilians as in one entity. It happens both ways, people who are pro-china, and people who are anti-china. Prof Mearsheimer is so far the only one I find who's not taking a side in his logic.

"the Australians gonna defend Taiwan with us"? I wouldn't hold my breath on that one - the population is certainly not keen at all on doing so or being dragged by the US into another useless war, gonna be interesting if our government, whoever it may be at the time, is going to be able to force us.

The government can always mobilise their armed forces without the consent of their civilians.
Would that then be a political suicide for said ruling government? That's a different question
