This is the biggest issue with modern warfare and our current politcal leaders. In the past, when there were kings and queens as leaders, they went to war and their entire families were on the front lines fighting and defending civilians. That entire equation has changed, what we have now is a system where our world leaders never have to put their lives on the line. They sit from afar and press a button and people die. There is a complete imbalance in what war entails and what is risked by those who call for war.

I am so delighted the way Professor addressed the ludicrous "win the peace" argument of Kotkin who clearly was delusional when he rambled about it in a previous program. The exclusion of Russia and Russian interests is a recipe for war. It has been the case in 2022 and it will continue being the case until someone wakes up and gets the balls to negotiate for real.
Lose/Win the war/the peace is a framework for looking at things and understanding them. It is not an argument. JM had no trouble expressing his own (grim) views within this framework, demonstrating it's validity.

I am a PhD student and the theory which I am working on is neorealism. I am presently reading his book. And I must concede, his articulation is commendable.
Anybody that's studied geopolitcs and militar history saw this unfolding like it has many years ago. Prof Mearsheimer isn't right about everything he says but like many saying the same things, he's right about the USA, Ukraine, Russia, China and Israel. We'll either get a "frozen conflict", a "Russian win" or WW3. The USA badly needs regime change. That's the bottom line.

During the cultural revolution for example, China export its marxist revolutionary teachings to many countries, provide training and arms to native armed groups (thus they are known as maoist revolutionaries), host radio stations within China itself for these maoist forces. For example, the Communist Party of Malaya which fought an insurgency against Malaysia's government has its radio station in hunan China. This only come to an end when Mao died and Deng took over. He decide that China should build economic ties instead of export marxist revolution and ordered these forces to step down. And they did. I think one flaw in Professor Mearsheimer’s theory is that he assumes China will rise and becomes another hegemony like America even though China has been saying no we just want to rise peacefully and peacefully co-exist with other countries, including the neighboring countries.

This is the biggest issue with modern warfare and our current politcal leaders. In the past, when there were kings and queens as leaders, they went to war and their entire families were on the front lines fighting and defending civilians. That entire equation has changed, what we have now is a system where our world leaders never have to put their lives on the line. They sit from afar and press a button and people die. There is a complete imbalance in what war entails and what is risked by those who call for war.

I am so delighted the way Professor addressed the ludicrous "win the peace" argument of Kotkin who clearly was delusional when he rambled about it in a previous program. The exclusion of Russia and Russian interests is a recipe for war. It has been the case in 2022 and it will continue being the case until someone wakes up and gets the balls to negotiate for real.
Lose/Win the war/the peace is a framework for looking at things and understanding them. It is not an argument.
JM had no trouble expressing his own (grim) views within this framework, demonstrating it's validity.
Kotkin is a fraud, i don't get what people admire about him.

Prof Mearsheimer isn't right about everything he says but like many saying the same things, he's right about the USA, Ukraine, Russia, China and Israel. During the cultural revolution for example, China export its marxist revolutionary teachings to many countries, provide training and arms to native armed groups (thus they are known as maoist revolutionaries), host radio stations within China itself for these maoist forces. For example, the Communist Party of Malaya which fought an insurgency against Malaysia's government has its radio station in hunan China.
This only come to an end when Mao died and Deng took over. He decide that China should build economic ties instead of export marxist revolution and ordered these forces to step down. And they did.
With the way China is going today, who knows if Xi will revive the cultural revolution again and build a cult of personality for himself?

Would you please give an example of where China is trying to rewrite the rules?
China has been advocating international law based order instead of the (US/Western) rule based order which has been used by US and her allies to attack China. China does not want to be ruled by those laws which in the US's book is rewriting the rules

China is not trying to rewrite rules at all, it just wants to be equal and not be ruled by foreign white imperial power. Most of Asia is the same except they are too weak to resist. I think this debate would be a lot fairer and unbiased toward China if Professor Jeffery Sachs and Kishore Mahbubani are also invited. Their opinions would be significantly different from Professor Mearsheimer and that of the moderator.
I think one flaw in Professor Mearsheimer’s theory is that he assumes China will rise and becomes another hegemony like America even though China has been saying no we just want to rise peacefully and peacefully co-exist with other countries, including the neighboring countries.
The moderator has barrowed himself in the US anthill and is naturally biased against China.
Fairness does not come alone by introducing opposition. It comes only when those in discussion are willing to cede to someone else for having a valid point of view. Pro-Chinese advocates do not go along with that kind of discourse. It's _all_ CCP or PLA or nothing. Whenever one critiques the CCP, those two entities call it racism. They insist that the party, the army and the people are all one entity.
