I have from garage sales two Snap-on tool chests (1956 and 1984) for $125 each. After I dissembled, degreased them, and used cleaner wax they look cool.
I use ice and water barrier (roofing material) in my toolbox drawers, it has adhesive on the back so it won't slide around and is very thin so it won't take any depth away from your drawers, it works well for me
my brother in law bought the other snap on box the guy had. i actually bought a bunch of snap on tools from him as well and picked out a bunch of 6 point craftsman wrenches from this box. The $500 he was asking was a good deal but im glad you got to score it even cheaper!
Congrats on the new toolbox! Sounds like you got a great deal on it, and those older boxes are usually built like tanks-that will serve you well and should last a long time.
Aleays loved that combo. Big storage in a small footprint. I have the kr 557E. And the krl 661 with the heavy duty casters. Has a matco top box of same dimensions.
That is a pretty cool Snap-on box set and you got a great deal! The newer ones are not made a strong as these earlier ones. That long flat tool with the 3/8 drive is a serpentine belt tensioner release tool. It allows you to get in tight spaces. Thanks for sharing.
That Snap On box combo has always been my favourite. Nearly got my hands on one about 10 years ago, but at the last second some cheeky chancer beat me to it.
I have that same box! I bought it in separate pieces and believe it or not parts are still available for it. I ordered all new slides and locks for mine. I would recommend some ribbed rubber matting for liners. I’m excited to see what y’all do with it and the clean up process.
Harbor Freight has black roils of liner material. They are nice and work very well. Looks like you going to need several rolls. I use a piece of plywood, T squire and Razor Blade when cutting the liner. I find that seems to work the best. Great Score.
I have the Matco Toolbox set which is the same size. I'm 6'3", an I can barely get to the top tool well. I made a small step to help me get to the tools.
@@thenkgarage My 1/2"sockets and tools are up there. i can get to some from the ground, but the step makes it much better. I don't do as much large work as I used to.
Anyway you figure it, a great deal, even with the wear and dents. Clean it, use some rubbing compound on the finish, and a coat of wax, and it will look great.
That's the 81-95 logo. That emblem alone is a hundred bucks on fleabay... Dunno if I'm the only one this nerdy but I won't own any snap on not in that year range other than electronics obviously.
I really appreciate guys like you.....i have some older stuff i like and display.....for daily use i use modern stuff
Thanks!

They are great boxes! Built for a lifetime
My back still hurts from moving that top box! 🤣 Those older boxes are built super well!
Oh she thicc
Bought old snap on box kr 1000 very dirty called a mobile car wash detail had them clean pulled all drawer and wow what a difference
Nice!
I like drawer liner from harbor freight. Stays put doesn't slide. Good buy and good luck.
Thanks for the tip
My old man has the same one and it survived a 100 gallon compressor explosion with only a couple dents! Things are made like tanks.
It is definitely a tank

I personally dont want it to be permanent but thats just me.

I have been using it since picking it up, its a good setup for limited space, drawer height is a little short but lots of compartments is nice
@thenkgarage lol yes a snap on staple.
So many shallow drawers in many units. .
Yes indeed
Along time ago that model was my first new box keep it for the first 20 years as a mechanic it was a good box
Nice its a good box

Thanks! Yea its absolutely a tank!

That happened to me last year the guy canceled on me when i was supposed to pick it up then all of a sudden it was sold
I have that same box!
I bought it in separate pieces and believe it or not parts are still available for it. I ordered all new slides and locks for mine. I would recommend some ribbed rubber matting for liners. I’m excited to see what y’all do with it and the clean up process.
Thanks! There will be updates at some point
Awsome tool box
Thanks!

love the box gents, another good find.
Thanks 👍

Yea I appreciate them trying to make it fit the most tools for a small space but you really need a step stool to get in the top
@@thenkgarage My 1/2"sockets and tools are up there. i can get to some from the ground, but the step makes it much better. I don't do as much large work as I used to.
Thanks for watching
@@thenkgarage Forgot to mention; Matco made a sliding step, and I had one, but they welded the attaching plate backwards.
Interesting
For my toolbox draw liners I use smooth bottom carpet runner
Great tip!
Buy some floor padding for laminate flooring you get a big roll for pretty cheap
I’ll check it out

Great score
Thanks!
I use the drawer liner from HF. It's decent.
I just bought some
Nice haul! Good luck on the hunt!
Thanks! You too!
Black and white trunk paint, spray in drawers for liner .
I think im gonna use a removable liner but thanks for the input
First thing the bar is for serpentine belts. Second thing is the wire. It’s called mechanics wire. Used for holding pieces or parts together.
Thanks
Get the Kobalt brand drawer liners at Lowe’s. They are a little bit sticky so your tools don’t slide around. Make sure they are Kobalt not craftsman.
I’ll have to look into that, thanks!
Snap on did have black handles for screwdrivers
Yes the more i look at it i think this one might have been alltrade
No I got the same set and yes the snap on emblem is the same place as mine just I still have the bottom emblem same side as top
Is it the same emblem?
Empty it out power wash it, sand it, paint it and you will have a very nice box
I definitely want to do that
I would find the old logo and stick it on. May have been the cursive logo back then
I found they are on ebay for $100
No the logo is right we're i t should be I've got one kr550 and 556i think I'd have to go look at the back to be positive
Yes
Nice toolbox. How many inch wide its?
32” i believe
They don't make them like that anymore. They're light and full of bells and whistles.
It used to be about heavy duty lifetime quality and now its about showing off
Original owner is still making payments.......😏😏😏
Lol

Yea I dont know if i’ll replace the logo at this time, im going to start with cleaning
@@thenkgarage I personally love the old logo and it is correct font for the box 🤷.
Love vintage snap on
