This was the biggest box I have ever done on a toolbox tour. It was a real gamble just bidding off photos (one photo per drawer). I guess in my final statement, that I wish it could have been better, I wasn't really factoring in the value of the box. At the same time we all wish it will be better, when you pay that much 🤣🤣🤣Thank you to all who watched, I really do appreciate it!
The wooden tools with the plunger are for lapping valves
Thanks for the info!
That Mac toolbox was made by Matco.Mac and Matco were together at one time, split in 1979.Matco was Mac's toolbox division, made Mac's toolboxes at one time. The Bonney tool collecters do collect Matco wrenches like that since they were made by Bonney
I did see Matco on the side of the box after the video was made. Thank you for the info, I did not know all of the history of Mac & Matco. Thank you for watching!
I have some and bonney
The two wooden dowel poles with suction cups are valve lapping tools, and the drawer that has the two valve spring tools has a t bar handle claw on the bottom looking thing it's for compressing the valve spring compressor to get the valve spring keepers out with the head on the vehicle usually provided you have compressed air constant pressure to hold the valve up in the head
Thank you for all the info!
We had a Gamble's hardware store in our town when we were kids.
Never heard of it. Probably from there. Thanks for watching!
The 2 t handel tools in the drawer with the pickel forks are camshaft lifter remove and install tools
Thanks for the info and thank you for watching!
We had a gambles hardware in Farmington Mo. the Plummer family has owned it for many years. Now it’s just Plummers. Pretty sure the third generation Plummer is running it now as an ACE Hardware.
I'm think they must have been in smaller communities. I wonder who made their tools. Thanks for the info! Thanks for watching!
I forgot to mention, its common to find old military tools like snap-on and Wright, missing the names (ground-off) when they're decommissioned and sold off to the public
Yes, they usually grind off their numbers. I have also seen brands ground off.
The top box is very similar to my Kennedy tool chest drawer size and layout included except for the 3 small center drawers i have a big square deep drawer
Yes, Craftsman also carried a box like that. I have been trying to land one off marketplace. Thanks for watching!
I really appreciate those socket trays! Ingenious Idea. Thanks for Sharing. See you next Saturday!
Yes, they had a great idea for socket trays. Thank you for the continued support! Thank you for watching!
Nice haul! There always seems to be some kitchen cutlery that makes its way into a mechanics toolbox lol.
LOL! Always some interesting stuff. Not the first time I found bullets. Thanks for watching!
Great video. I hope you got your money out of it.
Haven't tried to sell any yet, I have a bit of a backlog! I will one day. Thanks for watching!
You were making profit by the second wrenchs and finding the original keys for that snap on box doubled it's value
Having the keys is always nice. Thanks for watching!
Alot of Armstrong didn't mark their tools other than forged in USA and AH
Could be, I know contracted tools didn't get marked. Thanks for watching!
I was buying a lot of Snap On starting in the 80s, i have 4 of the triangular handle screwdrivers. Only a guess that it may have been 1985-1987 when i bought them.
The wooden stick with the suction cups is a valve lapper. I was pointing at the TV saying "the tube of valve lapping compound is RIGHT THERE, there's your clue!" That's pretty old school now. My dad had one that was like an egg beater, you cranked it and the suction cup went back and forth.
That's funny! I truly do look at these on the fly, otherwise I would ID the tools in advance to look smarter LOL. I even though it had to do with valves, I think the other one I have was sold by Thexton or Lisle. I have had several of the egg beater style, that I would have known. It's funny you mention the compound, never saw it. I actually look through the camera when I do these so I don't always see the details, especially when I am just going after the tools. Thanks for the info! Thank you for watching!
LOL, I just went back and watched and it is plain as day. I think I shut my brain off to most non-tool items when I am looking through the drawers, that one was so obvious it almost hit me in the face.
@@thetoolbandit I understand, it's different making vs watching. I enjoy your videos, a lot of it is a trip down memory lane. The one thing I would have liked to have seen closer was the Snap On timing light, that was an old throwback. I think I remember that OTC code scanner 2000 as being one of the first out there. I remember back when all you had available was a paperclips and watching the blink code. No code was "12", one blink then 2 blinks, meaning "no tach signal". Did I mention memory lane??
@@DGillyy that timing light is a bit of a piece of art, just a nice looking piece. Love it that you remember the codes! I bet that scanner wasn't cheap back in the day.
That's why i have a problem buying older boxes and older tool lots like this. They are almost always full to the brim of mostly SAE, with just a few metric pieces sprinkled in here and there. In 20 more years though, it'll be nice because the older boxes and older tool lots will be mostly metric, with a few SAE sprinkled in.
Yes, that is one thing people don't consider when they are trying to get gold for their dad's toolbox, who retired 25 years ago. Many of the tools are obsolete. Thanks for watching!
35:20 Those are lifter removal tools.
Appreciate the info! Thank you for watching!
Look at it this way , Imagine you had to pay for all those tools at todays prices . I think you came out on top .
You wouldn't get far on the truck for $1800. Thanks for watching!
Yes, lot of money, but I think you got a good deal. The boxes alone cleaned up may be worth what you paid. You certainly could not buy those boxes new for that money. Most tools have used for sure, if tools could only share their history of use, it would be interesting. Have a good day, I always enjoy your videos. The manager at my local Harbor Freight told me one day that Snap On was not a tool company, they were a finance company, tools were a way to support their finance operation.
Thank you for the kind words! Yes, I tend to forget about the value of the box itself. If I figure the box is worth $1000 or so then the tools are a good deal. Snap-on makes great tools but I can't defend the new price on most of them. Thank you for watching!
Snap-on is a marketing company that makes tools. (I’m a former employee.) Standard width boxes are a tough sell these days. Maybe $750. Thanks for the videos!
That tool is a nut splitter, the 2 suction cup wooden shat tools are hand valve lapping tools
Thanks again for your help!
Love the tool box reveal videos. Sorry it wasn’t a slam dunk. You should be able to get some money out of the box, the ratchets and wrench sets. Unfortunately it is going to take some time. I thought the Skil air chisel was cool, I had no idea that Skil dabbled in the air tool business. Have a good night
Yes, the box has value but it will take time to find someone will to pay close to what it is worth. I may keep the side box, those are harder to find with the drawers all the way down. I don't come across a ton of air tools but this is the first Skil I have seen out there. I had no idea either. Have a good night as well! Thanks again for watching!
Love the wheels
Thanks for watching!
I have a buffalo tools impact Dr.
That is the most common one I find, they must have sold many. Thanks for watching!
Those wrenches that had their names ground off might have been sold as factory seconds so that you cannot Warranty them through their factory I see I see it all the time with knives Otherwise I like that bot
Yes, I have heard of second with the names ground off. Thank you for watching!
Definitely making money with this box!
I agree but it won't be easy. Getting harder to find the right buyer for the older boxes. I would keep it but I have too many. Thanks for watching!
Great video 👍
Thank you! Gave you a sub, always like tool videos. Thanks for watching!
Wright probly ground the name off to sell it as a 'second'. Many companies do that.
Could be seconds or for a contract. Likely not done by the owner. Thanks for watching!
I think you will make a profit it's just going to take awhile to sell single piece by price .
I agree, it will take a lot of work. I would have preferred t see it in person. Thanks for watching!
Nothing some evaporust remover and some wd40 can't fix. Usually.
Most everything is fixable. Thanks for watching!
cool video do you find much herbrand tools
Honestly hardly ever. Thanks for watching!
Brake fluid is on them driv er s
Could be, never though of that one. Thanks for watching!
The only way I could make any money from that $1800 investment would be to warranty everything and hope that Snap-on would approve the claim. I think you could pull a few hundred from the sell of the boxes, but that was a helluva gamble... Good luck
I doubt they replace good tools. Money to be made, just would take time. It is always a gamble, especially when you can't see it in person. Thanks for watching!
It’s a shame Klein tools don’t still stamp their logo. Their etching lasts about a month.
Thinking that blue handle pliers is Klein? I could look closer. Yes, the etching companies use these days is a joke, including Snap-on. Thanks for watching !
Mechanics weren't smart back in the day, so its very common to find grind marks on their tools as a way to identify and prevent theft...
I think they were smart, just didn't trust anyone.
You might be "The Tool Victim" on this one.
LOL, you win some you lose some! Thanks for watching!
What did you pay for this?
All in it was $1840. Thanks for watching!
Maybe I’m just way too anal but how did that guy work out of that box. It would take you longer to find the tool than it would to use it. That’s messy tool box.
I rarely find old boxes that are organized like people have today. It also always amazes me how much random junk they store in toolboxes. Thanks for watching!
WAYYYY OVER PRICE MY FRIEND
Figured you might say that! Thanks for watching!
