This is bull. When you're in pain you need something you shouldn't have to bag your doctor after 3 days after 6 days after 9 days. I had back surgery they did fusion and I couldn't walk for 5 months. I was screaming every time I moved. And yet when I said I was in pain they asked couldn't I go off of the pain medicine. I told them the pain medicine didn't help. Nothing helps. You shouldn't have to feel like a druggie at the age of 69 and in pain. This is a terrible system, you do not feel a buzz you do not even hardly feel any relief. The people that are in pain can't get the medicine now that they need. I had total shoulder replacement surgery 2 months ago. I sit here everyday with ice and heat, and no pain meds. There really is something wrong with our system.

Look into kratom. I started taking that back around 2014-2015. Best thing that God ever gave me. I have back injury problems just like Brad I have stenosis and spondylodesis as well as sciatic pain arthritis in my hips and my left knee tendonitis in my arms. Let's just say that aging has not been very graceful with me. And Kratom just takes the pain away it's the best anti-inflammatory I have ever had. Works like an opioid without the addiction and without the withdrawal. And the best part is is that it's natural.

I had similar situation. Couldn’t walk for eight months, turned out dr put metal piece in my nerve. Doctor messed up, he had to go in and take out metal. Helped immediately. That’s just one of my issues. My injuries were extensive. I’ve had six surgeries. I’m doing much better now. I had six stem cell injections. Very costly but it is healing me slowly. Good luck.

It's discouraging to live with chronic pain and to be treated like a criminal when seeking the only relief Rockefeller doctors know of. Kratom helps me a little, but nothing like the dramatic results so many claim. I've had to make major lifestyle changes in order to lessen the all over pain I have. Also, I NEVER get a buzz! Even when I was taking 350mg daily. Now they've got me on 50mg a day, which does nothing for the pain, but keeps me from the agony of withdrawal. If I had been told the truth when I was first prescribed this garbage 20 years ago, you'd better believe I would have refused! I did not have an addictive personality, but now I'm chemically dependent. What's the difference!

The kratom made me vomit every time I took it it did stop my pain though. I wasn’t taking but just a tiny amount because any type of pain medication does make me nauseous but really that’s the only complaint I have with it. It’s kinda hard to dose it just right.

I’ve been on and off opioids for twenty-three years. For the last six years I’ve been on Brutrans pain patch (opioids pain patch, not as strong as fentanyl). My back pain was chronic for years. The more I took the opioids the more I needed. I started out with pills and they made me up and down all day long. Pain patches helped regulate the ups and downs but I also had to increase dosage. Opioids surround nerve endings and make them more sensitive. It takes time to go off them. Very slowly, you decrease dosage because the medication is all over body cells including your brain. You have emotional and body detoxing. Eventually you will get back feelings in your body and in your head. Your taste buds return, your mental fog goes away. Very very important to go slowly. I didn’t like taking them but I couldn’t handle the chronic severe back pain. I’ve had six stem cell injections over two years now and I am currently going down on the dosage. No pain but the detoxing is hard.

Yes. I had a trimalleoler ankle break this past Feb 26. Had surgery with a plate and 11 screws. They had me taking so much over the counter garbage that I wound up in the hospital with chest pains. 18 k bill later , lotsa tests ,the nurse said thats what it could have been. I just wish they would given what I needed. I still have really shitty days all these months later. Can't move 4 of my toes and no one knows why. I never got "high" on anything they prescribed so it isn't about that for me. Always had a high tolerance for anything ever prescribed over the last 40 years. I still don't understand how people are getting high on codeine. Did nothing for me for my migraines.
No heroin left here in philly btw. Its a Fentanyl. Go to my Instagram and look at my stories. You can see them mixing the Fentanyl with water and shoot it right up. Zero heroine. I watch them smoke crack, meth, and shoot Fentanyl.

Yup. I have a chronic pain condition that leads to frequent joint injuries and pain from those and the subsequent surgeries. There’s no “cure” for me and all the PT in the world is like gingers in the holes of a damn, keeping parts of me together. Prescription pain medication allows me a semblance of life and the ability to do some needed PT and work. I’m a disabled mom of 2 who is just trying to keep up with my kids and not fall apart. Before the demonization if opioids I was able to get them more easily and get through more physical activity, get my degrees, etc. Once they became suspicious of every patient and doctor, the amount prescribed needed for me to go about life dropped away and now I’ve lost my career and had to move back with family. Everyone, please think before putting opinions out there. I’m a neuroscientist and understand addiction risk, but I also know statistics, and patients in pain were never the problem and are obviously not now.

Exactly! CDC lied the opiate epidemic is from illicit fentanyl and heroin NOT pain meds prescribed to the patient. This is an Agenda pushed by big Pharma! This is a push for Suboxone and Buprenorphine which are addiction meds. They are trying to push 10s of millions of Americans with chronic and intractable pain into using these addiction meds!
Millions of cancer patients, intractable pain patients and veterans have been treated like addicts and forceably taken off of their medications. Many have killed themselves due to the horrors of untreated pain. This #GreatOpioidLie is harming millions! Prescription pains have plummeted but ODs from heroin and illicit fentanyl have risen. Patients with a “problem” come out as closer to 2%, so 98% will never have a problem with use. He used the wrong term, the long term use is physical dependence (receptor levels go up and so a certain amount is needed to maintain stays who and cover pain), it’s not addiction.
He makes it sound like you’re able to easily talk to a doctor and get pain treated. At this point it’s very difficult to get pain medication even for post op or terminal and chronic conditions. I used to have a great quality of life on medication, getting my degrees with my incurable pain conditions treated. Then doctors stopped wanting to prescribe and I had to leave my career and move home because I was in too much physical pain to care for my kids on my own. The drug problem now is driven by illicit fentanyl and drugs bought on the street, not diverted meds. If I had an addiction issue I would have turned to illicit drugs instead of paying high insurance and medical fees to get the very controlled amount of pain medication I can now.

The majority of patients in pain who are prescribed opioids do not manifest the compulsive behavior of addiction but do physiologically experience habituation and tolerance. Bob and Brad’s discussion is an excellent one for physical therapy patients. Modalities for pain relief might be great topics for subscribers: acupuncture, massage, ayurvedic, herbology and other techniques might be of benefit in lowering opioid use after tissue injury.

Since everyone wants to stop people from getting pain relief, I think traiteurs, shamans/shamaness, native American medicine men etc needs to be advertised more, those people will end the pain. And the medical profession and congress can stop hollering. Decades ago, my cousin about 7 or 8 had a bad sunstroke. My aunt kept taking him to a doctor for a month, he laid on grandmother's carpet never getting up. We heard of a traituer, south Louisiana thing, and in minutes in the car he immediately started feeling good. So medical profession dont want to help anyone, we need to find out where the treaters and healers are so we can go to them

There’s a lot of people on here saying it’s “dependence not addiction,” when that’s not the truth. Along with the physical dependency comes addiction, your receptors become addicted, as much as you don’t want to admit it, you absolutely do become addicted even if by no choice of your own. I went through this for years, when I finally stopped the physical withdrawal was the easiest part. Sure I got sick, it wasn’t easy, but it was far worse fighting the mental part of it, realizing that was addiction, and stopping myself from running out and taking them! Even after 3 years I still want to do it.

I have real chronic pain. I don't chase, so it's not addiction. I was taught that real addiction is both psychological and physical. The psychological dependence is not there for me. I have no cravings, only severe pain that needs to be relieved. I understand that addiction is genetic, so I don't judge addicts.

Only if doctor's who prescribe it instead of buying off the street at triple price or black market not knowing what is them would make more sense to me?? Need a doctor in TO that will give pain meds that help not just muscle relaxer's . Taking a couple pills less time than working out . I would blame the doctors for all our overdoses since they don't give us the good meds people buy them off the street . If taking something helps my pain so be it beets being in pain.

Morphine and Oxycodone were my life savers during my 3 days of enjoying a kidney stone. They help during the recovery time right after the procedure to remove it as well. Luckily no stint, geesh that would have to be a total nightmare waiting for that to be removed.

    • @oceansdaughter9885

I had a stubborn kidney stone that wouldn’t budge and so I know how awful it must have been for you. Unfortunately, I had a stent placed three times and if not for the Percocet I was given, I would’ve jumped off a building. Three weeks of kidney stone fun with a freakin’ stent that had to be removed and replaced. Even with the pain medication, it felt like I was peeing razor blades. When my doctor finally said it was time for the procedure, I forget what it’s called, but they were gonna blast the stone so that it would pass. They got the stone to move during the procedure and captured it in a ‘basket,’ but they still put the third stent in!! Bottom line, I would not be here today if not for the pain meds. I have had one other stone which passed easily the morning after an ER visit, thank God. I pray that I never get another stone and I pray for all who suffer with constant pain. There’s no answer to the dilemma of how to prescribe these meds carefully and the opposite; telling people they are ‘drug seeking.’ 🤷🏼‍♀️ 😞

@@oceansdaughter9885 Funny story to add...the ER Dr. said they started with morphene to remove the pain and then they leveled it off with Percocet. When the pain was finally gone my wife asked me how I felt, I answered her "am I in the morgue". My stone was lodged just outside the kidney, they blasted it and no stint was needed. After one attempt to pee, I waited for the oxycodone pill I got to kick in before any more attempts to pee. Amazingly, 2 hours later I was heading home. Razors?, for sure, truly pain beyond explanation.

I wonder if part of the crisis is attitude and understanding? When you talk about pain relief, I have always thought "pain relief" = removal of pain, that the opioid would remove pain even as aspirin or Tylenol or other analgesic would remove pain like headache.
The most dramatic analgesic effect I felt was the complete removal of horrendous menstrual cramps by ibuprofen. (It was a godsend!)
Indeed I found out that indeed, opioids don't make pain go away, but you just don't care AS MUCH.
So I think, when people in the hospital demand their next pain medication, the mechanism is possibly misunderstood by both patient and loved one.
This is the kind of information that needs to be given as a PSA periodically.
There was a point in recovery from a broken ankle where I felt the pain seemed not to be any different with or without the medicine, and it was at that time I decided to stop, especially since I was well into my PT, advancing into maximum recovery including stairs.
I don't remember getting a buzz. Maybe I was spared that attraction.

For all those who say this is bull well it isn’t. I completely agree that you shouldn’t have to ‘live in pain forever’ but the problem is that in the United States they give you medication for everything. Do you have lower back pain… medication, you don’t feel well oh okay here is some medication and why do doctors this you may ask. Well surprise surprise its all business, they don’t try to make you feel like a druggie. Nobody can make your feel something, you chose to make yourself feel like a druggie. It’s okay to take painkillers but sometimes there are other ways to relieve your pain plus feeling pain is your body telling you that there is something wrong and by only taking painkillers you are just silencing your body and most of the times don’t solve the problem.

Many people with severe chronic pain for many different illnesses who are NOT
“Addicted” ( “ie: I have very painful medical illnesses & I never got a buzz... Guess cause I was in pain!!
Also let’s REPEAT that you said 3% have a problem. And why are you talking about Heroin? Yes, Fentanyl NOT Oxycodone with Acet., etc.

Hydromophone also known as Dilaudid as well is one of the worst, Dilaudid is often called heroin on the streets I’ve heard that as well now I don’t know how true that is but that is scary and it is in my opinion the most addictive pain med , usual used for surgery , cancer but now chronic pain, obviously up to the doctors discretion that orders it but from what I heard that one is s big problem as well. And it makes you MEAN . Pain meds Will and can alter your personality , it can also change your appearance as well when people abuse it. The frighting thing about these meds is that you don’t have to abuse it to get addicted because when I had my gallbladder removed I was given IV Dilaudid , I had no idea what pain meds were and now I’m addicted, now mine you I would never buy anything from the streets but I use to get it from my doctor , now I get percocets because of my condition is called lymphedema which I go to the lymphedema clinic as well but my legs are so bad you can tell that I hurt and it sucks I have a weight problem as well and I never thought that I would be one of those people addicted and it’s scary… thank you for this video, I wanted to know why, why is it so addictive, why can’t I stop, am I really in pain in my legs or here’s a question, can pain medicine create pain if your addicted?
