I've visited India and Thailand for extended periods. I enjoyed the food in both countries and I found that my arthritis pain was decreased. When I return to the US the affect stayed with me for a few weeks and then the arthritis pain returned. Both countries use a lot of turmeric, pepper (blank and white), and very hot peppers (capsaicin).

When I was in India, the ladies I worked with say that whenever they finish a bottle of turmeric or curry powder, they put a little water in the bottle, swish it around and drink it. I take a couple of capsules a day, but with the other meds I'm on, I probably need to reconsider that.

At 82, I had four G.I. Bleeds with hospitalization and blood transfusions. I had always taken one aspirin a day. The G I. Doctor said NO MORE ASPIRIN. Now at 85, I have had no more G.I. Bleeds since the aspirin was stopped. However, after stopping the aspirin, I began having arthritis. I had NO arthritis while I was taking aspirin up to age 82. The only pain reliever I can now use is Tylenol. NSAIDS contain aspirin. Check your pain meds before taking them.

I started using turmeric honey (coconut oil, honey, turmeric, black pepper mixed) back in 2013 after I read the research about possible protection from dementia. I think you missed something. Turmeric carries bleeding risk like the other NSAIDs, because it is an NSAID. Don't forget that Aspirin was derived from the extraction of willowbark. Herbal anti-inflammatory is not a valid category. There are only active compounds and inactive compounds. In the turmeric in there is an active compound that acts a certain way because of its nature.

Please talk also about ginger into the next edition of the video. I have occipital neuralgia which often wakes me up in the middle of the night with pain. I am on Norco (from my pain doctor) but the Norco sometimes gives me nausea. One night I was in a lot of pain and decided I would consume some ginger before the Norco to prevent the nausea. Ate about an inch-long piece of the fresh root. About half an hour later I realized the pain was decreasing. An hour later it was mostly gone. Never did end up taking the Norco that night. I've used the ginger, sometimes adding turmeric extract, for these night neuralgia attacks ever since, and it has cut down quite a bit on my use of Norco.

I've found that sometimes one of those will work very well on a certain type of pain and another will not do anything whatsoever. An example I can give was I was having very severe pain with an inflamed Achilles tendon and could barely walk. Tylenol extra strength did absolutely nothing to relieve it and I mean it was as if I hadn't taken anything at all. I bought Ibuprofen and the results were amazing. There was a great reduction in pain and the tendon went back to normal between a week or two. Other times it seems aspirin was just the ticket. At other times Tylenol seemed to work much better. I've only tried Aleve once and got no benefit from it at all.

Yep! Panadol is good for bringing down temperatures and inducing sleep but no good for real pain. Osteo Tylenol is a joke (there’s zero difference).

I've read several studies by doctors that prescribe turmeric for pain caused by inflammation in back and knee joints. In those studies, they prescribed turmeric in much higher dosages than the label indicates. As a baseline, they typically prescribe 2,000 mg in the morning and another 2000 in the evening . For most of their patients, that dosage worked just fine. For those with severe inflammation they would occasionally bump up the dosage to 4,000 mg in the morning and another 4,000 in the evening . The patients would stay on this dosage from 1 to 3 weeks depending on the results and then return to the 2000 mg both morning and evening. One doctor in fact had taken some of his patients up to 13, 000 mg per day but that was only in cases of severe pain caused by inflammation. in none of those studies did they mention any negative side effects and that has been my own experience with back pain caused by arthritis and my daughters experience with knee pain caused by years of ballet. In fact, in her case it's the only thing that ever worked. And in my case, it worked better than anything outside of oxycodone but had none of the negative side effects. To summarize, turmeric in higher doses can be an incredibly great inflammation reliever. You know your body best so you decide how high you will go but certainly use 8,000 mg per day at the point where you should be very thoughtful about the dosage. I hope that helps. By the way, we both felt that liquid Qunol worked best for us even over the same brand in capsule form. One drawback is that within a few days we both noticed that our fingertips were leaving light orange stains on towels and washcloths, so be careful to wash your hands a few more times a day. But it truly had amazing health benefits for both of us.

Glad you mentioned of not giving Aspirin to kids. Don't do it! I am a survivor of Reyes-Syndrom which I was in 4th grade at the time, not fun and was hospitalized for about 5 weeks. Ice baths, induced Coma, NDE part of the program. Was hard to diagnose at that time, but doctors are more aware now. Now in my fifties I do take aspirin on occasion as well as baby Aspirin.

Started taking turmeric with black pepper years ago for psoriatic arthritis. My little fingers used to stay sore and almost felt like they were broken but after taking turmeric the pain is gone and I lift weights 5x/wk no pain or problems in my hands. Plus curry chicken and rice are very tasty. Ibuprofen liquid gels knocks my headaches right out, very effective.

I take liquid and mix it into a short glass of orange juice. Nice to know I can do this 2times a day once in awhile.
The liquid is absorbed in the body better.

Do you have a video on non drug options for repetitive motion injuries, when to use heat and when to use cold? I garden and do a lot of knitting and crafts, I try to stop and rest but sometimes overdo. I don’t respond well to drugs, tend to become allergic if I use them much. Thanks for the great information, I am a new subscriber. So grateful for all you are teaching me!

Be careful, as a framing carpenter the pain increased a little every year, so every year I took a few more aspirin. By the time I was sixty I was in the habit taking six or more every work day. I nearly died from internal bleeding. I had lost so much blood that two doctors considered my survival a miracle. I haven't had an aspirin in a couple of years. I also consumed too much salt. The salt and aspirin abuse have done irreparable harm to heart and lungs. I now have cold feet that never warm up because my blood circulation is so poor. Now I am bedridden. I had no clue that it would be salt and aspirin that would do me in.

Whoa, so sorry to hear about your condition. Thank you for sharing. Many people use alot of salt, &/or aren't aware of the amount of salt they are consuming when they are eating out. 😞
Years ago i realized that if i ate at a diner 2 "healthy" meals, i would gain 5 lbs that week. When i didn't eat out, this wouldn't happen.

I use turmeric/piperene for arthritis. However I have one kidney and have to be careful not to make kidney stones in it. Turmeric is rich in calcium oxylate, which makes for jagged, very painful kidney stones. To counter the calcium oxylate I also take hydroxycitrate, which prevents C-O from crystalizing.

I have degenerative disc disease/disorder and I used the combo of Tylenol/Alieve to completely get off pain meds (Norco). Sometimes, if my diet is good (no sugar/carbs), I can get a whole 2 days out of 1 dose. It is a very powerful combo.

Now I am really going to cut back my carb because I also have degenerative disc disease and now pelvic fracture from osteoporosis.

Sugar and carbs affect pain levels? I’ve had chronic back issues for 6 years. I’ve been told losing weight will help with the pain because excess weight adds strain. But I didn’t realize that carbs no sugar directly impacted disc pain.

As soon as I've had too much sugar, my hands will hurt and my ears will start ringing. Did you know high blood sugar levels are also linked to tinnitus? I just found that one out a few years ago. Good luck!

Taking the anti-inflammatory meds ( Aleve/Advil)on a consistent schedule will insure you maintain the anti-inflammatory effects and pain reduction..If you take them sporadically you will end up chasing the inflammation and pain. To optimize the benefit take them on the schedule outlined on the bottle.
