I’ve got a lot to say about this knife, and very little of it is positive. Not a knife maker, nor do I play one on UA-cam. I’ve personally seen at least 4 of them to be returned to my store alone. They’ve all been brought back due to the blade snapping just inside the handle. I took one apart and found that for some reason, they put a large hole in the blade tang. All of them snapped at that same place with moderate to heavy usage. Three guys said they were chopping down standing dead trees and the fourth was prying something, (wasn’t there, didn’t get the whole story) that I’m guessing he probably shouldn’t have been. These were all returned within a two week period. I remember that because I had planned on picking one up the next payday.
Not trying to scare anyone, or crap on the manufacturer, just want to raise this concern.
BTW, just found your channel (and subscribed), via your homemade MRE series. I’m enjoying working my way through them.

Camillus knives have been around for a long time. I've not had one of the modern, imported knives, but they seem to be a solid value. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

I just bought one on clearance at Wallyworld for twenty bucks and it has a hard plastic or nylon(?) (not kydex) sheath. Also they call the small knife a “trim knife” and the handle on mine is a dark green/gray color. The notch on the spine of the blade is identified as a “wire cutter” on the clam packaging of my knife.
I attached my mora 2000 knife to the sheath with Ranger bands so I’d have a smaller blade for more intricate cutting tasks.
In my opinion it’s not an SP8 but it’s certainly worth what I paid for it.

I've had one of these a long time and I use it to chop grapevines off otherwise good trees. Never have had a problem with this knife. I use the trim knife to cut open boxes and such. Well worth the investment. Don't care for the saw.

It’s really a good overall knife but probably not one to abuse too much.

I would highly recommend condor makes a machete called the "terrachete". It cost $60-70 depending on the site.
    I can't recommend it enough.
It is a once in your lifetime purchase.
One of those type you hand down. It is designed as a one tool type deal.
Im not a fan of a hollow grind on a machete. That is bad no matter how you look at it.
    I prefer carbon steel.
A good machete is one of the best most useful tools i can think of.

    I own this Carnivore.
    I would not buy another.
The saw-back is why I dont like it.
Instead of this tool, try a 12" Tramontina machete-work knife.
The Tramontina is full tang, carbon steel, and it works for those people who LIVE in a jungle. Thats a heck of an endorsement.

I personally wouldn't buy one but I don't care for budget blades although I have a few lower to middle price range ones and I don't like stainless steel in any capacity. True about tips there, I've a Muela knife that I dropped and the tip snapped off and I had to re-profile the tip.
A good knife for all but hard bushcraft for a cheap price that keeps a wicked edge, go for the Opinel Carbone range. They're not for hard tasks but to cut stuff or even double as a kitchen blade, they're fantastic.
If I want a bushcraft blade, I'll pay the money for something bigger and stronger.

The tool looks interesting. My favorite Camillus knife belonged to a relative who was in the navy back in the 1960's. It was a stainless steal folding knife that had a cutting blade, marlin spike, can opener and bottle opener. The bottle opening blade could also function like a flat head screw driver. Camillus no longer makes this knife and can only find them used. Smokey Mountain Knife Company carries a replica but I'm not sure of the quality.
I also have a fear of losing my high dollar Becker knife and usually pack a Mora companion for most of my day hikes. I stopped buying Spyderco knifes as I kept losing them. I the folder I carry at work was a freebe from a conference I went to years ago and has cut everything from seatbelts to birthday cake.

Hey DBA! I have the Camillus "Inject" which uses the same mulititool philosophy - it has two little tools that slide into the knife's scales and can be popped out to provide some extra functionality. Only twenty dollars on Amazon, might be worth a look as a companion for your Carnivore.

I recall my brand new Camillus hunting knife...beautiful knife and scalpel sharp......but....it came with a plastic sheath.....an expensive knife with crap sheath....which meant that the very first hunting trip I took with it..on the very first day after working through dense brush going after a moose...I got no moose but returned later to camp to find that the knife was gone...thanks to the crap sheath. Never get a sheath made of anything but leather with a secure way of restraining it.

Well I don’t think that tip is gonna help prying things open, if I remember correctly it’s a stainless steel blade, and for 25 bucks is either one of those cheap Chinese cr13 stainless or like 420 or if lucky 440 blade. Those steels are pretty weak and will break when trying to pry, also that cord cutter is a big weak point along of all those sawblade sections. But for normal camp use or as a backup I think this should be fine, this is one blade I would lend out to a person that don’t know much about knives or is not careful with stuff, we all have that friend. Once I actually left my elmax knife on the camp sight and my of my buddies needed a knife, he borrowed my knife without me knowing and wacked it on a stick problem was the stone under the stick and when he got thought the stick he wacked the stone, I almost started crying but the blade didn’t take damage

It looks a bit over designed, performed marginally as expected and I strongly suspect the whole titanium thing is nothing but a marketing ploy. BUT…the main thing always is that if you like the looks and enjoy using it - that’s the only justification one really needs for purchasing any blade, especially in this kind of price bracket.
