    Actually, usually scopes are pretty much all 1/4" or 1/4 moa @ 100 yards...
    As you're at 25 yards, you're 4x closer... that means 4x more clics to get it right...
    With your firing results, you would have to give around 28 - 32 clics toward the left side.

      @@garrytalley8009 it also depends on caliber and loading too. I have a couple AXIS II's in .223 and point of aim verys between manufacturers and even handloads. I found one that is doing half moa with handloads and around 1 with factory and the other is 1.5 no matter what. But the one that shoots handloads the best I ditched the original scope and put a vortex strike eagle on it and I've never missed vitals on anything I was hunting.

    I like the fact that it seemed honest. The fiddling with it was actually entertaining to watch and it happens, especially if a person isnt as experienced, like me. Seeing someone with a lot of experience having to fudge with the rifle a little, makes me less insecure about having to do the same thing. Ive only sighted in one rifle and I felt like a total ass the whole time. Next time, ill feel like less of an ass knowing that it happens at all levels. So thank you for that.

    I've bought a few of cheap rifles of this price class Savage and Ruger. They all got better after a few boxes of ammo. Really respond to a good break in procedure. And keep track of tightness of all stock to barrel fasteners.

    I recently bought an Axis in 30-06. I'm glad to see right out of the box it will do decent grouping at 25 yards. However since I already bought mine. I plan to perhaps upgrade the rings then remount the scope and be sure everything is evenly tight and right where it needs to be. Bore sight it, then go from there. Also with the price of ammo these days. I will use a new point of aim after each adjustment, start at 50 yards, then repeat at 100, then call it good enough. Enjoyed your video.

  • @larryreese6146
    @larryreese6146 5 років тому +6

    To get your gun dead center at that range fire 3 shots like you did. Hold the gun dead center on target and have someone else dial the scope towards the group you just shot. Done right you will be dead on target with the next shot. Shouldn't take more than 4 shots to have it dead on.

  • @phillipowens1493

    When sighting in a rifle scope it is a waste of time and energy to keep replacing the dust cover between shots, Remember at the shorter distances as Michel said it takes more movement of the adjustment to move the shot placement. I would suggest you review videos on scope adjustments.

    I won a Savage Axis at a Sportsman's dinner plus another rifle. I traded the other rifle for a good Weaver 3-9x40 scope and Laser sighted it on the garage over head door. Took it out pig hunting next week. I sat the pig I wanted and put the cross hairs on the Pig's left ear and fired. Pig tipped over and went 4 hooves up. the shot was a little low, it hit the scapula, ricochet into the spine and ricochet into the heart. Best bank shot I ever made. I use my Savage Axis II when teaching at the range. The rifle has hit flies @ 100 yards (a fly will land on the paper target and I'll tell the student to aim for the fly. I watch the fly in my spotting scope (Burris 20-60x60) The fly will disappear and a hole replace it. It's really accurate.

    NOTE: Very good trigger finger work by the lady. I recommend a chamber laser bore emitter and a bench in the garage. Mark your bore center axis and center line of sight on the paper. Adjust the scope so the cross hair marks are the distance above the center bore axis and are vertically aligned.

    the scope adjustments are 1/4 inch at 100 yards your only shooting it a 20 yards so thatmeans that each click of adjustment turns in to 1/8 of an inch so you have to put 8 ckicks of adjustment for 1 inch at 20 at 100 yards it would only be 4 clicks i own several of the savage axis xp2 one is a 22-250 that i groundhog hunt with i kill tgem from 100 yards clean out to 500 yards the 270 version ive killed deer with it at 250 yards great guns for the money

    I suggest you do not trust the quality of the scope mounting that comes with a factory mounted and bore sighted scope. They are usually Weaver mount bases and rings. The bases are fine. Remove the base screws, degrease, blue loctite them, and torque to spec. Throw away the factory rings, buy some Weaver Steel grand slams and mount those. Lap rings if necessary. Degrease all of those screws and mount the scope. Torque to spec. Don’t want to lap rings? But Burris Signiture rings of DNZ Game reaper mounts.

    It’s 16 clicks at 25yds . 8 at 50yds. 4 at 100. Or secure the rifle, place the crosshairs on target and move the crosshairs to point of impact on target. That will get you on base.

  • @mountainman300
    @mountainman300 8 років тому +1

    you have to double your # of clicks for closer, 4 is for at 100yds and i think on some of them you turned it one way then went the opposite got talking then did the same thing again and went back to the original. Happy shooting and happy hunting. also a good tip would be to use cheap ammo to sight in then use the stuff you are going to hunt with to fine tune it.

    I liked your video because I have and love all my Axis rifles. I would suggest you get a shooting rest that holds the gun in place like a gun sled style and watch some other videos on UA-cam about sighting in a rifle where they bore sight the old fashioned way by removing the bolt and putting your target dead center of the bore looking down the barrel for starters. I am sure you understand the clicks and yardage well after so many other people said the same thing over and over so many times. Have a nice day and enjoy shooting and making videos. You should be able to sight a rifle in real good with no more than 9 shots.

    Spend a little more and get the ruger American. I purchased one in .308 as a budget sniper project and prior to altering the rifle I was getting 1/4 inch groups at 100yrds. Feels a lot more solid and better built than either the patriot or axis. P.s. Just bought a patriot in .243 for the girlfriend and I would suggest taking a patriot over an axis if the ruger american is out of the question. I believe you can pick up the patriot cheaper than an axis and it seems to be a better rifle.

Turning in as small increments as you were, you would have been better off getting on paper and zeroing in at 100 yards, then adjust to the distance you believe you will be shooting game at. Nice grouping, I think you bought a very capable deer rifle.

    1:22 the answer is no, but the answer is still no regardless of what rifle you buy. Not testing and proving your rifle before going hunting would just be irresponsible.
    5:19 that's the type of group I would expect at 100 yards with this rifle. Not even sure why you'd fire at something that close unless you're just seeing if it's on paper at that range before sighting it in.

    Buy a $20 laser than you stick in the end of the barrel to get the zero close and see which way the adjust move point of aim; cheaper than a box of ammo these days. Then a few bullets to zero.

      The scope on it is adequate out to 200 yd. Why would anyone want a 50 mm scope? 44 mm has as much field of view as one can get. 50 mm is just a cheap way to get more light. 50 mm scopes are just too bulky. Been there done that. I wish I could get 25 cents on the dollar for the 50 mm scopes I bought in the past. What I am saying is I have made that mistake on 50 mm scopes in the past and it is a major mistake.

      @@charlesnorman1072 That is a great testimony! My local shop here in southern Indiana has several of these in stock. Including 5 in 30-06. Between $420-450, depending on configuration. Seems a little high, but not unexpected with the current circumstances. They will bore site the scope and loc-rite the screws for free if I buy the rifle from them. I've been watching reviews and most are very good. I've got an old Savage bolt action chambered in. 222 Remington. It was our ground hog gun around our farm when I was growing up. It's seen a lot of use over the years and is still going strong. I'm glad you are happy with your '06 and thanks for the fast reply !

      What ever brand and grain combo your rifle likes, and depends if you are taking it hunting or just targets. Every rifle likes a different brand and bullet weight of ammo, but once you found the one that shoots most accurate, stick with it.

    • @larryreese6146

      From that first group, theres no problem with the gun. They're a good shooting little rifle. Only thing I dont like about them is the bolt. You have to bring it too far up to be able to cycle the the cartridge and it seems ungainly. Other than that they're a good gun, and fairly light. I've got the 6.5 with the stainless barrel and the accutrigger. I like it. But for weight, balance and portability I like either the old 3030 Winchester or New England single shot which they dont make anymore. I hear Henry has a nice single though.

    STOP! JUST STOP WASTING THAT EXPENSIVE AMMO!
    Initially I start with a 3 shot group. Go to the target, measure the distance to bullseye, make the required adjustments. 4" right at 25y, move scope LEFT 16 clicks with a 1/4" MOA scope = 4 inches.
    Shoot 2-3 more and see where it hits... if it isn't even close STOP SHOOTING and assess the situation.
    OR, you can just shoot 1-2 rounds, aim your scope to the bullet holes where it impacted the target and adjust your scope to the bullseye while you are aiming point blank at the POI on your target. (Might have to get your wife to adjust while you are holding steady as you don't have a lead sled.)
    Just blowing ammo away like this makes me cringe 🙂 happy shooting.

    • @reb1050
      @reb1050 4 роки тому

      Yes, 16 clicks equals 4 inches AT 100 YDS! He was shooting at 25 yds. so to move impact 4 inches at 25 yds., it would take around 64 clicks.
