    I was lucky enough to sit and talk with him a few times. I saw a transition in him that was a turning point for the better of everyone he led. Like all people he had a bad day once in a while. He was honest and told you what he thought straight up. One time he said, "No one gives 100% all the time. You would pass out from exhaustion." He wanted us to give 100% when it mattered. Rehearsal, performance, interacting with others. Everybody needs breaks. I was there to see the transition where we had almost no breaks, to the time where we had frequent short breaks.

    You do not win because you want to. You win because you deserve to. Roll that around for a while.

      What’d he do?

    • @keegandrums
      @keegandrums 6 років тому +3

      Sexually harassed, assaulted, or raped at least 10 women during his time with the Cadets. Some were underage.

      Disgusting.

      V6G4 The thing is there simply is no proof. I can point to someone who is a CEO and say that he sexually assuaged his employees. But at the end of the day I have no evidence.

      Ryan A case gets more and more credible with the number of victims, though. Eventually, something will turn up, you’d think.

    Shooster & Sam ....I totally agree! Hop is ruining Drum & BUGLE Corps. His innovations are destroying an activity that's been around since the 1920's! Amplifiers, guitars, and now woodwinds? Go compete in Bands of America. We're losing members because we're no different than bands. Bands used to emulate Corps, now Corps are copying bands. No power, no entertainment, no BUGLES! Thanks George, you must really hate Drum & BUGLE Corps!!!

    If he gets woodwinds in Drum Corps, I will hate him forever

      @@bigtupa5613 FYI, I have known plenty of Catholic Priests that have expressed themselves in almost that very same way, when it was warranted. Ergo...it was warranted, jackass.

    @shooster11 they won because taht was NOT the focus! I know his words are true, my former director was amember of the Cadets in 91-93 then DM in 95. I know several others who have marched in the Cadets in the last 20 years. While I do not like what he did with electronics, this guy is a great man in Drum Corps! He holds these ideals and pushes them through to his kids.. inreturn those that go out there for what ever push it onto their kids....

    I won't call your opinion "shitty" like others, but it is obvious you marched with a corps that lost to the the Cadets, a corps that did the same style year after year ala Blue Devils mid-80's and never tried to do something new or different.
    If George wasn't pushing the envelope every year, drum corps would be far worse. Not saying everything he does or tries to do is great, but what he has given to drum and bugle far outweights any minuses.
    Drum corps owes a great deal to George.

    @phantommp5 Are you kidding me? That's complete bullshit. Just because Hop's introduced some new innovations into the drum corps community doesn't mean they're bad. If he "hated" it, why would he be the director or one of the best corps in the nation for 28 years? And no entertainment? The screaming crowd at the DCI event I went to this past summer leads me to believe that your assumptions are false. "Innovations" and "destroying" just don't go together.
