"What will you do when you age out and cannot march again?" "I will most likely join the Reading Buccaneers as part of DCA so that I can continue to feel like I'm good at something"... hahaha I love it!
i posted this in the general comments before, and i figured i would repost it in the reply so the people in this thread would see it. I lost it when they mentioned George Hopkins and joining the reading Buccaneers. I showed this to a couple of friends of mine who are in the Long Island sunrisers, and they found it hilarious as well. I know this is a little off topic, but what does everybody think of the way DCA shows are scored nowadays? I went to a couple of shows this season, And reading one both times! I don't think they were the best core this year, The Hawthorne caballeros and the Long Island sunrisers were two of the best cores In the lineup this year in my opinion. DCA drum core is turning more and more into DCI every year. Electronic sound effects And audio equipment, unconventional drumcore instruments, The miking of horns, and a whole bunch of other nonsense that I don't think should be in drumcore whatsoever. It should've stopped when they started implementing the pit In the early 80s. One more thing I want to touch on is how the scoring is . DCA shows are being judged and scored by DCI judges, And they are extremely biased in my opinion. It seems that one core Is winning over and over again, and then every other core gets screwed during the Season and then at finals in the end besides one or two corps, the rest all get screwed. for example, Reading kept winning even though the show wasn't the greatist this year. For more information, please see the recap sheets. my grandfather is a sunriser/caballero alumni, he has been involved in the activiity since the early 60s. I played with the sachem high school band for my last year of high school last year, and I plan on joining sun eventually. I alwayse thought that sun should start an alumni corps, maybe I will talk to Mr. Visconti about it.
*Male synthetic voice*: ...oh..and I forgot...another vital element of corp is shagging your color guard summer-love behind the auditorium stage at the 89th high school gym you've had to sleep in this month alone. *Female synthetic voice* And what was her name? *Male synthetic voice*: ...George Hopkins.
I feel you're misunderstanding the video. The video was created by a corps member. The video shows that we love the activity so much, and the experience is so incredible that we choose to endure, what to the average person, would consider a living hell. We choose to put ourselves through the tribulations of the summer to be a part of an amazing thing and to produce something that takes an insane amount of skill, talent, and dedication.
My wife and I both marched DC for many years and have done numerous alumni gigs...the "three shower heads" brought back a memory where the showers were so bad, we ran outside and used the sprinklers when they kicked on...picture a bunch of members following the oscillating sprinkler in a circle during the sprinkler's slow sweep, then running back as the sprinkler head reset during the fast sweep...
This is my first post. I'm a Bluecoat - 2nd Baritone 1988, Upper Lead Baritone1989-1991. What I would add is that for financial reasons, many schools turn off their hot water boilers during the summer, so in addition to 150 people trying to take a shower in an hour, it is very likely that those showers are going to be cold. Now, one might think after practicing on an astro-turf field that's 120 degrees six inches off of it, a cold shower would be the shizzle, but it isn't, they are no fun.
Im marching Teal Sound this summer and when ever my friends outside of band ask what it is it's always really hard trying to explain Drum Corps to them, it isnt something easy to explain, now i can just show them this video yay!
I was chuckling until he mentioned Reading Buccaneers, then I started laughing, then George Hopkins I started cracking up and by Tragic of Orlando and all the Blue Devils, amplification, etc, I was like, what is air? So good.
I marched a division III corps back in the day. Division I corps may have the reward of playing for large crowds in large stadiums, but that doesn't happen all too often for all drum corps units!
OMG this was so funny, I marched lead soprano in 83 and in 84 with the Hurricanes, I realized I can actually gig in clubs and make $ but the video was great!
@Guardboi08 I definitely paid at least that much to march back in 2005 & 2006. I flew to 4 camps plus all the fees in '05 and racked up at least $2500, not including expenses on tour. (BK pays for their own food and travel to and from rehearsal during all-days)
@Jambando yeah. i march scouts, and we get about an average of 6ish hours of sleep. and we get a couple free days (not many though). I liked how a lot of this is true....
@sethdmil You forgot to mention that the three shower heads are most likely cold with no pressure. You should put that in the next one. Oh yeah, and gyms with lights that never go out. I don't know if this has ever happened to you, but don't forget about bus break downs and bad bus drivers.
I'm pretty sure that, by creating a satire on drum corps, you will be exposing people to the beauty of drum corps who otherwise never would have heard about it. It's even better how many drum corps fans seeing this video are not too uptight to appreciate the comedy in this video without getting offended. It actually makes me respect my fellow fans even more. Great stuff.
OMG This is HILARIOUS!!! I have said EXACTLY the same crap to non corps ppl throughout the years. Marched Bridgemen 81-84 AND Skyliners 86 and it's funny to hear that some things never change. George Hopkins... Buhahahah! You nailed that one; he thinks he's God's gift to DCI!
George Hopkins.
+Bone-Tone Lord Nearly choked to death on Pepsi when this part started
well this is awkward
"there is more" "oh dear lord"
BaccaBoy1999 I laughed at that part as well
"What will you do when you age out and cannot march again?" "I will most likely join the Reading Buccaneers as part of DCA so that I can continue to feel like I'm good at something"... hahaha I love it!
Brianna McClain i March Cabs and that is such a true statement

"The Tragic of Orlando"
Oh man, I don't know jack sh*t about drum corps, but this is eye-wateringly hilarious.
*Male synthetic voice*: ...oh..and I forgot...another vital element of corp is shagging your color guard summer-love behind the auditorium stage at the 89th high school gym you've had to sleep in this month alone.

bajeebazus I don’t know how to feel about this in 2018.
'as long as we keep getting first place we don't care'
"This doesn't sound like a very good experience to me."
"Wait... There's more"
"Dear lord"
lmfao
Words do not describe the accuracy of the explanation of drum corps via this video. I've gone through conversations verbatim to this. HILARIOUS!!
if someone asked me whats drum corps i would just show them cadets 2011.enough said
Am i the only one who got really mad at the light bear?
I'm running out of places to hide the bodies. George Hopkins. 😂
The white bear is so ignorant.
and let us hope that DCI never becomes about the money, or our sport we love so much will be perverted into something we'll grow to hate.
*Our fans seem to think so too, but as long as we keep getting first place, we dont care*
"what's 2+2?"
"George Hopkins."
HILARIOUS!!!
Patafliflis, ratamakoos, fom fives, digging dupets? That is what I'm calling all of these from now on. My techs will think I'm crazy
LMFAOO!!!!!!!!!!! George Hopkins part made me roll oover falling laughing!!!!!
Oh my god this is like every conversation I've ever had in my life.

Why is this so funny I'm dying
This is one of THE funniest videos I have ever seen! I was actually crying watching it. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do another one!
Listening to him explain "what kind of music do you play?" Oh my God I died.
5:25-6:35
I have never laughed so hard in my life XD
HAh.. I about died laughing whenever he started naming off all the rudiments..
and when he said our 80 member hornlines are not loud enough. lol
every. drum corps. conversation. EVER. that follows the question "what is drum corps?"
I laughed, I cried, I LOVE THIS!

i really enjoyed the Blue Devils part. Made my day!
George Hopkins
The best part is that Gorge Hopkins makes since and is the correct answer for all of those questions.
I get that it's George Hopkins, but where did this come from?
Im marching Teal Sound this summer and when ever my friends outside of band ask what it is it's always really hard trying to explain Drum Corps to them, it isnt something easy to explain, now i can just show them this video yay!
This rocks!!! I love when he lists off the percussion stuff. Their voices totally make it work!! "Wait. There is more." "OH dear Lord." Lol!!
when he answers what kind of music he plays i died
The experience of music making is all you need.
LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
"How many fingers am I holding up?"
"George Hopkins."
Loved this video so much. Thanks for taking the time to make this. It really made my day.
this is so how everyone of my conversations goes! please could you do one about the guard?
3:52 - 4:05 stock...
Hahahahahaha awesome video, my friend. Perfect explanation of the strangely appealing absurdity that is drum corps.
George Hopkins
I was chuckling until he mentioned Reading Buccaneers, then I started laughing, then George Hopkins I started cracking up and by Tragic of Orlando and all the Blue Devils, amplification, etc, I was like, what is air? So good.
I love the Johnny Carson reference at the end!
"George Hopkins...George Hopkins...George Hopkins...George Hopkins...George Hopkins...OMFG!"
This is awesome. This is the exact reason I did not do Drum Corp
"George Hopkins?"
"George Hopkins." *nods head*
rofl XD
I almost spit out my drink with "Oh dear lord!"
OMG that is hillarious! From this perspective, the blank stares make more sense - Geprge Hopkins!
I marched a division III corps back in the day. Division I corps may have the reward of playing for large crowds in large stadiums, but that doesn't happen all too often for all drum corps units!
Hahahahahahahahaha XD this is soooo accurate. This is the response I get from people when I try to explain drum corps. This is great!! Love it.
I pressed the like button after he said he would join DCA. :D
keepin' the dream alive.
@sithlord7m I experienced that this year. "It's a baritone...that's bigger...and louder...yeah..."
"patty-flas-flas and rata-macues" that was too fucking funny.
That doesn't negate using the proper verbiage. The meaning is entirely different for those two words.
What happened to all the comments.......
You know, your iPhone App is just amazing!
OMG this was so funny, I marched lead soprano in 83 and in 84 with the Hurricanes, I realized I can actually gig in clubs and make $ but the video was great!
@MIXMusicNow You're missing out. It's an experience you will want to get in on.
@Guardboi08 I definitely paid at least that much to march back in 2005 & 2006. I flew to 4 camps plus all the fees in '05 and racked up at least $2500, not including expenses on tour. (BK pays for their own food and travel to and from rehearsal during all-days)
@Fumbles9001 actually it has gotten that high. just this past summer it was 115 degrees in houston in the shade
This is incredible. Very well put.
wow it feels good to know that i have college to fall back on
8:32 - "I am running out of places to hide bodies." Reminds me of Siri on the iPhone 4s. Lol...
Had me crackingup when he startedsaying what kind of music we play xD HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
@SoaringEagle90 make sure to add in that ultimate frisbee is legitimate exercise and how two stick is really cool
That was awesome!!! Liked the part about BD and George Hopkins
@Jambando yeah. i march scouts, and we get about an average of 6ish hours of sleep. and we get a couple free days (not many though). I liked how a lot of this is true....
You should do shower stories. Like a horn player steals the mascot uniform and runs around naked with the head on.
@sethdmil I was about to completely flip out until I decided it might be a good idea to read the description. Nice video :D
LOL, so true, people at my school have the exact same reaction when I talk about my drum corp
@sethdmil
You forgot to mention that the three shower heads are most likely cold with no pressure. You should put that in the next one. Oh yeah, and gyms with lights that never go out. I don't know if this has ever happened to you, but don't forget about bus break downs and bad bus drivers.
This video is great! Love it!
love the vid! i got so pissed when she said drummers are not real musicians, they can do such amazing things on drums!
I'm pretty sure that, by creating a satire on drum corps, you will be exposing people to the beauty of drum corps who otherwise never would have heard about it. I have three summers to try to make enough money and practice enough before I age out. I'm hoping to get into the Blue Knights.
I feel that this has a new meaning now that Reading is no longer the reigning champions in DCA
this is awesome.....definitely just made my day!!! :D
@mo81206 Remember when they played Jazz? You know, music with with melody?
"Tell me more about drum corps." None of us have EVER heard that.
"I will most likely join the Reading Buccaneers, as part of DCA, so I can continue to feel like I'm good at something."
This quotation is priceless!
I love how all of this is actually true. Great video man, as definitely become a facebook hit!
@mustang20XII As long as you enjoy it, go for it.
Friends: What's drum corp?
Me: George Hopkins.
Friends: Wait... What? Who?
Me: George Hopkins.
@TenorZero My high school hard electronic keyboards and a guitarist back in 96
Hahaha I love this. I'm literally rolling on my bed laughing ;)
Yes having Spring Training/All Days in Texas!...
Blue Devil part is SO true!
it kinda took a turn after george hopkins. "may the fleas og 1,000 camels infest your crotch" EPIC
@LiamusShakirus he already has it posted on his facebook page.
Everyone should drop the invincible Chuck Norris thing and start saying George Hopkins jokes
"When we get it wrong, the staff often yells at us and demeans us..."
That doesn't sound like a good teaching method. Find another corps.
OMG. I think I died. George Hopkins!
"Wait! There's more!" "Oh dear lord!"
xD that was my girlfriend's reaction when I told her about drum corps too
@MusEdMom
I've heard of people taking a semester off to work and save money, but never actually dropping out.
We must mic our soloists (Unless you're the Crossmen. He was his own microphone)
"wait there's more"
"oh dear lord"
@cambridgefarms2 The judges did not agree with your observation.
IDK, I got hung up on that part for a second. Those dastardly computer voices can be very deceiving.
I love this! I play saxophone and do drum corps... not at the same time though! XD
Go colorguard!
