You know, he's always been so funny that people sometimes fail to realize what a kind and humble man he is. Extremely intelligent as well. One of the greatest of all time.
Steve Martin receiving an "honorary" Oscar, demonstrates how to graciously accept an award in a heartfelt speech. 8 minutes and worth watching.
Touching moment when he talks about his wife. Amazing guy
That, ladies and gentlemen, is how to give an acceptance speech with class, humor and dignity. Well done sir.
Indeed
His wife looks young enough to be his daughter or maybe grand daughter :)
He’s not reading this
@@trvman1 i’m 😮😢 2:52 2:55
Every once in a while I watch this video and rediscover what a great writer (and performer) Steve Martin is. This speach is a perfect example of class and comedy.
I do the same. :)
Well said and so true.
His line to Hanks about Captain Phillips not being "so funny" is a slam dunk. Steve Martin is the best.
Some celebrities you just KNOW are good people. Steve Martin is one of them.
Cate 🤍
"I can't possibly express how excited I am tonight because the botox is fresh" Only Steve Martin can deliver such finese and genius. Master of delivery no one comes close.
Steve Martin's Oscar speech is how it should be done. Some people should watch this so that if they get an Oscar, they know how to give a proper speech. Not just thank themselves, but those that helped them to get where they are. Great speech Steve.
I just worry that we are slowly losing these type of actors.
+Gregory “The Postman” Post Please show me another Steve Martin. I'll wait.
+Gregory “The Postman” Post give the younger actors/actress a chance.. some are funny if you open your mind..
precious few if you open your eyes....we are not exactly trending upward
@@JayLeePoe www.thestar.com/news/canada/2010/12/19/cpl_steve_martin_154th_soldier_to_die_as_a_result_of_afghanistan_war.html / Not being political or say Steve Martin is not a genius. Just love to be that guy.
Daniel Rose that is, indeed, an other Steve Martin. Well done, Detective. You only had to bring down the room for the sake of a dad joke, kudos. Brave. May we all be so bold. To Bill!
Steve Martin is a great Comedian, a great old school Comedian.
A man who is so well deserving of an Oscar. Glad he finally got one. Steve is rather timeless. His hair went completely white like over 2 decades ago, and he still looks the same. Close your eyes, and his voice is practically unchanged. May he go on and on... until there's no more marrow to suck out of life.
Well, I mean, the Botox is still fresh
I worked on The Jerk… Carl Reiner and David Picker were solid people.. I was a young PA and they were so kind to me… His description of walking into a soundstage and a set that first day is spot on.. for those of us behind the camera as well as those on camera…. I enjoyed every bit of it.. I was late once my first week on a commercial back in 19#& and I never needed an alarm clock ever after that. I was lucky and blessed to have had a career instead of a job… and I cherish those memories.
Man..can Steve Martin pull a speech. respect"
The speech that has everything. I teared up when he did.
I know. Me, too! What a great guy.
"I saw Captain Phillips... I didn't think it was so Funny".... comedy gold!
Steve Martin should have received the Award long back! However, its good to see that the Academy has finally recognized one of the greatest comedians of our age!
I've met Steve a handful of times ... somehow he remembers and all the time he shines as a super huge loving soul and lover of arts ... he's 1 of a kind
What a simply wonderful acceptance speech...
That man is a class act.
"Academy Award Winner Steve Martin"...I like the sound of that.
LIKE A BOSS
An absolute class act as always. One of the greatest comedy talents that there will ever be. My favorite from Steve Martin is The Jerk. I cry laughing every time I watch that movie!
"So many of my agents have died; watch out Adam!"
Soo freaking funny!
“My wife alone would have been enough of a reward for my life but now she has brought me a wonderful child.”
How freaking sweet.
As I've aged and experienced the series of events in my 72 year old life, I've discovered the depths of emotion attached to memories of friends, my living partner, my wife and other things. I've become more emotional, not less. As I watched Steve Martin's emotional acceptance speech, I came to see that as we age, the things that were important to us live on in our memories and affect us almost as much as when they occurred.
This is true class, everybody. Something we desperately need more of now days.
Wow, that was one of the greatest heartfelt speeches I've ever seen. Well-deserved for all those years of laughter you have given us.
I am sure he was thinking about John Candy when reflecting on all the great talent and wonderful people he had worked with and were no longer with us...
All of me, Three Amigos, Roxanne are all my favourite movies. Steve Martin is a genius in comedy. Martin Short is another of my favourite comedian and actor. They are the best! 👍👏❤🤩😍🥰😘
Steve is one of a kind and just plain kind, sweet, smart, talented and one hell of a good man.
It's nice to see a poor black child receive an oscar.
Haha
🤣 brilliant
What a jerk...
@@TheBlackDeck This was a reference to a quote Steve Martin made when he hosted Oscars
@@SriramVenkatesan yeah, the movie, The jerk....
Tom and Steve on one stage, two talented and hard working artists.
He is easy to cry as he is simply makes us to laugh loudly.. what an amazing personality he is
what a class act. changed the comedy world forever.
a legend. I was feeling down two days ago and I decided to watch pink panther of 2006 and I laughed, really laughed and enjoyed the 90 minutes of laughs and humor; it never gets old and it never gets boring. Thanks Steve!!!
Humble and sincere. He was very touching.
That was a masterpiece.
For those you who have commented on how much you love this man Steve Martin, go check his videos playing his banjo and performing with the Steep Canyon Rangers. You’ll love him even more, if that’s possible.
What a moving speech... The last bit especially about friends, made me cry. My favourite Steve Martin film has always been LA Story... Funny, romantic, brilliant, a bit of drama, a bit of sci-fi and a bit of action in that car scene early on... It's got it all. Steve's got it all.
He's a true gentleman, isn't he? What a dude. I still hold out hope he'll win one of the competitive oscars, you never know.....
That would be awesome.
Year me too but it's seems rare that comedies or funny people win Oscars. With some exceptions like Robin Williams of course
How could anyone dislike this? Steve Martin is a class act and this was a beautiful speech.
I'd love to see the 4½ hour cut of "Planes, trains & autombiles"!!
Me too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a hilarious movie. 1987. A good movie is ALWAYS a good movie. R.I.P. "John Candy".
Is that a thing??
Never mind. If I would have waited 10 seconds I would have learned on my own.
John Pappan yeah, but most of the film has all but deteriorated due to poor storage, which is really sad.
YES
He knows he is loved by everybody in the world he got so many awards but he loved that one mede him emotional what a talented man ever lived we love sir
Well deserved award for one of the greatest comedic actors of our times.
What an acceptance speech. Full of humility, thankfulness, wit and humour. Oh, I just realized, now that’s the definition of Steve Martin!
Beautiful heartfelt speech, truly written from his heart.
I love when Steve said about Captain Phillips, Tom is literally dying on the background. I was like:"That's it, call an ambulance!"😅
My wife alone would have been reward enough for my life.
Knowing he means it makes it very special. His book on his life in Stand-Up is a tragedy
Why?
Love you Steve! So talented in so many ways and a person with humility and heart!
Steve Martin roasting Tom Hanks is something I didn't know I needed
Made me cry hes just so nice steve martin you're a legend
His eloquence and gratefulness makes life meaningful and beautiful.
First time I have ever seen him get emotional during a speech.
Comedy genius, brilliant man of many talents.
Steve Martin, one of the best!!! Love that man!
5:31 A very special and brief few seconds he showed us how real he is and how the love for his wife is infinitely more important to him than anything else.
And ppl say Tom Hanks give the greatest speeches?? No Way!! Steve Martin is the king!! His eloquence surpasses all!! So glad he’s getting his due.. finally!!
One of the greats! One of my favorites!
Such a wonderful speech, very touching and gentle. Martin really is a nice guy.
I watched The out-of-towners once when I was 5 yo and 13 years later it's still one of my jams.
Steve Martin- what a Class Act! A man of wisdom, humility, humor, creativity and music and a razar sharp wit. I have to say personally….I've enjoyed his work more as he's aged.
I can listen to him all day...what a talent & so funny and sincere...
That's just wow - so genuine. Love him.
i,m glad that" the lonely guy" receives this Honorary award.Lonely guy and the man with two brains are two of his movies that i loved to see more than 20 years ago.
Steve Martin's beginning to look like Harrison Ford.
Other way around lol
I didn’t get what you people were talking about at first, but I’m starting to notice it now.
LA Story was/is a masterpiece.
From a Mississippi sharecropper to an Oscar Winner and a Saint. thank you Steve.
This Oscar and this tuxedo that’s all I need
Steve is pure class.
I love this man so much. He always makes me happy.
3:23 I love how Tom is absolutely losing his shit over that Capt Phillips "jab".
This has got to be one of the finest acceptance speeches ever delivered. Bravo!
Steve martin is still better than many comedy actors of the 2010s
What an absolute beautiful speech to movies and to life
he is 70 but has the voice of a 40 year old
Maybe botox affects the vocal cords?!?
GREAT GUY.
please stay with us forever.
the world needs you.
I am enjoying the 2014 Honorary Oscar ceremony enormously, however, I must again express my disappointment that these presentations were not made at the actual Oscar ceremony on March 2nd. The concept that these lifetime achievement Oscars should be relegated to a smaller and less significant ceremony is insulting to the honorees and diminishes the importance of the award. To me, the awards to Olivier, O'Toole, Redford, Grant, Poitier, Douglas, Loren, Donen, Fellini and Edwards during the actual Oscars were the highlights of those years. Does the Board of Directors believe that these presentations don't have the same entertainment value as a Billy Crystal monologue? Incomprehensible.
I'm with you on this one.
This is how it's done! What a gracious human being... a real class act.
Congratulations Steve!
Godspeed!!! ♥♥♥
Lori Nevers
It's about fucking time that Steve got one of these.
I grew up watching steve martin. i remember listening to my uncles albums of his. then i saw the jerk. i thought that it was the funniest ever.

One of the best acceptance speeches ever from an incredible talent
Steve Martin is... one and only!
the legend of a legends
Besides my dad, this man is my #1 influence in life...
so great -- if only he had gotten it for All of Me. Wasn't even nominated, despite the NY critics giving him best actor that year.
That was AMAZING! Thank you!!!
A perfect example of professionalism. Talk of those who brought you ease to work.
BEST.SPEECH.EVER.
Why have I not seen this before?????💘
That speech is sincerely comes from the heart
given he should have one a couple of them in competition... it was HIGH time. He never got even nom'd!
Enjoyed your Banjo concert at the State Theater in Easton, Pa. What a show yawl put on and such a class act! Congrats on the award!
Hilarious and heartfelt without even trying ❤️
So touching. I've never seen this side of him.
Effortlessly hilarious. Been a fan since "King Tut"
I hadn’t seen this before. What a terrific speech.

Tom Hanks standing there, knowing the pitch is coming.....unhittable delivery.
