I was thinking of upgrading my 2013 model to a touring 2022 Civic but seeing the Sport Touring I may jump to that version instead, just for that extra hatchback space. Great review!
@Get To The Point Already with the rear seats folded down, sure the hatchback offers more utility. But if you have kids back there and can't fold the seats, the sedan offers a significantly bigger trunk.
amazing how car engines have evolved over the years. I love that companies are now making smaller engines that are turbo charged for the average person.
I like the new design of the Civic Hatch Back, much more than the Sedan. I definitely would consider this model and trim level. Thanks for sharing Joe.
@@RaitisRides Joe, big fan of your channel, I've been watching your videos for a year trying to decide on a new car. I was lucky enough to drive a boost blue pearl 2022 civic touring this past weekend at the Chattanooga Tennessee dealership. The color is beautiful in person (it's so blue lol) and the car drives great. My wife and I are Honda people, she has the blue 2018 accord sport, we were in the new civic for 30 seconds pulling out of the lot and she said "yep it's a Honda". Unfortunately the dealership had included $2,400 in add-ons I don't want and with tax tag and title their total was $36,000. Anyway can't wait to watch your video when I get home from work to see what you thought about car. I'm either going to have an Atlanta area dealer order me one without all the extra fluff in a few weeks in that beautiful boost blue pearl color or just keep waiting until the SI comes out, not sure.
First time watching this channel. Joe love the energy and the vibes. I'm not sure though why so many people are hating on the 10th Gen. I love my 2020 Civic Sedan Sport model. I love the Hatchback of this Gen it definitely gives off the sleek fastback design. Something the current Sedan version lost. Also some of the features on the previous gen that came standard on most trims (-LX) are only featured on the Sport Touring models. Example being fog lights, and some are slightly different like the driving modes. Which are Sport, Normal, or Economy mode. Previous Gen has away of combining all three modes at the same time. So there is definitely some give an take on the old vs. new.
My favorite feature in my Honda is its fully independent suspension. We might not be able to see it on camera but I think some basic information on suspension architecture is a relevant and often-missed aspect of a lot of car reviews.
You can also find independent suspension both front and back from the corolla too. It's amazing you will like the suspension. I drive everyday and you feel planted to the ground.

Dear Mr. Raiti, thank you for your very nice review. I've leased both the 2017 and 2020 Civic Hatch Sport finding the Civics are an unbeatable value. The many added features in the '20 make it a very nice upgrade and driving experience. I've test driven a Corolla hatch too and the Civic beats it on most points. The '22 Sport Touring: believe me it's awesome to see the manual and redesign and all the other nice features. HOWEVER I am sorry, and I have to give Honda a big "Zonk" on the head for this: They no longer offer the 180HP-T in the Sport trim which was ~$22.8K. This means I need to get either an EX-L (What Sport buyer wants those wheels nor a lesser engine) or a Sport Touring for much more money. Yes it is a nicely appointed Civic, the Touring, but please don't downgrade us Sport trim buyers to the 158HP 2.0L engine which besides is now going for $24.1K. This may now put the Sport experience out of reach of many buyers who can't spring for the $29K Civic including myself. I appreciate Honda raising the bar but I would much rather be interested in (and put my money into) a SI Hatch!!! That being said, I believe Honda is making a marketing shift to keep sales current and competitive. It will be very interesting to see how their sales of the new Civic offerings plays out over the next few years. If I do get another Civic I will wait for the new SI and I hope they offer it in the hatchback. The Sport Touring is a beautiful new offering in any case and I would definitely love to wing one around the curves of those hilly streets of Austin! :-) Regards!
I'm 48; gas is $5-bucks a gallon! I don't need speeding tickets. I was debating to get the Corolla as my more gas efficient car. The problems with Toyota's are that they're so well engineered and reliable, they're very boring to drive. Honda's have always been fun to drive.

I just subscribed to your channel. Loved the 80's GI Joe reference. I know that looks are not everything but... I prefer the front end of the Corolla. I think that the new Civic has the better looking hatchback. I plan to test drive both when the dealership's in my area get some in. My local dealership's do not have much on the lot right now.
Eewwww see I have always been turned off by that Corolla front end. Toyota doesn’t do front ends well at all imo. The Corolla looks like a guppy hahaha
Some automakers have finally realized SUVs aren't selling just because of ride height, but for the cargo advantages of a liftgate, so let's turn sedans into hatchbacks.
Honestly, I was a tad disappointed when I initially saw the Civic, as it felt like a smaller variant of the current-gen Honda Accord. But this review itself is a proof this one is far more interesting and intuitive than the latter! Love how Honda has these innovative ideas for Civic while being consistent with their initial purpose the lineup was even made for - quality comfort on a budget. I do miss the rear AC vents from the previous generation and the rear flat floor from the older ones (from 2001 - 2016 Civics). I guess the latter was dropped in favor of ever-evolving safety regulations (?) but it did add some extra space for people without having them feel they're crammed up. What's sad though is Pakistan won't be getting to see the car being sold in the domestic market as the local Honda factories apparently do not possess the technology to build this generation. Way to scam the customers of an already-dwindling industry.
It's a good lookin car. I drove a 2022 Civic Hatch Sport with the CVT....and you don't want it. It's has a annoying drone and completely takes the fun out of driving a Civic. Manual Transmission Only is where it's at.
Hey perfect video I have been watching other videos over the last couple of years but I like this one because it is on Honda I just wish you had taken it out on the freeway just my thoughts thanks again
The civic is a sport touring, roughly $30k, the Corolla hatch XSE is roughly 24k, it costs 25% more than the toyota, and i honestly can't see spending 30k on a civic. as nice as it is. I could get a Camry SE for that money.
I wish they paired the SI with the 2.0T they put in the Accord and the interior features of the touring trim. That's what I want...a 250hp 2.0T Civic Touring SI. I guess I'll just have to get a Audi A3 instead.
Thinking about getting this new hatchback in the sport touring. Currently have 18 civic and I spend a lot of time driving so wanting to get some of those luxury details. So excited about the Bose sound system and leather so nice. I am thinking the hatchback will give me the much needed extra cargo space for fitting all work stuff school stuff and kids sports gear. I was considering a rav 4 hybrid… but not sure. Does the sport touring have a quieter ride than the EXT from 2018? That’s one of my complaints is that the road noise is quite loud in my civic
I have a hold on the Black On Black sport model! It should be in mid-November (to far away if u ask me) I’m so excited! Love the review! I have to stop watching these when I’m hungry though! 🥤🌯🌮
I’m glad the new Civic is so good as it will be the basis for the coming manual transmission Acura Integra. I just hope they offer the Type R engine in the Integra with a manual transmission. That will be the compact car to get.
I was at a Honda dealership yesterday and after all the fees the final price came out to be $37K...I don't know if it would be worth it for that amount.
Joe that's most definitely a Sportback, not a hatchback in my opinion. I guess Honda is trying to appeal more to the older audience on this generation which I respect. I'm just worried that the Si and Type R will have this conservative design language they have going on. Either way, I'd still take this hatch over the sedan any day off the week.
i just got a 2021 civic sport hatchback and i love the design more than the one shown in the video , also i raced a mustang and lost , raced a v6 Camaro and lost , raced my brothers 2016 Subaru WRX and most definitely lost (he got thing so modded tho) yeaaaaaaaaaaah if only my civic had at least 240hp or something i would love it even more , the launch is so slow but it's fast once it gets going.
Another great video! i really wish Honda made the hatchback available in the Si trim. I'll have to cut down on my twinkie buying to save up and think about the typeR if they make it a 5 seater this year instead of a 4 seater again.
My son and I went through this choice one year ago. We looked at the Corolla Hatch and the Civic Hatch. We both agreed that the Corolla had a very attractive interior and a nice sporty exterior. It is compatible with it's serene and relaxed handling and engine performance. Whereas the Gen X Civics we looked at were far racier looking, had a more business-like interior, but in performance, we felt that the Civic crushed the Corolla in acceleration, handling and driver interaction with the road. With my Gen X, the 1.5Liter Turbo, I get 0-60 in 7.3 sec, not fast but quick enough for my needs. To date after 26k miles, 37.7 mpg from day #1. Will that 1.5L turbo outlast the non turbo Corolla... probably not. But by the time my turbo dies, I'll have my Civic converted to an electric/hybrid. The kits are in Europe already (€7,500). We saw the new 2022 design, but found the look underwhelming.
@@alvinsimba734 well that's a personal choice. And I respect yours. But we feel they sucked all the "excitement" out of the car's design. My son and I saw the Gen Xl and didn't care for it. We rushed to the dealer and got two Gen X's. He got a new 2020 Sport Hatch and I got a new 2020 Coupe EX at insane discounts and ridiculous $ for our trades. And I see that for some reason the new Gen Xl is a bit slower. But that's meaningless, I guess. I look at it this way, if I'm gonna drive a bottom feeder Civic, at least it should have some pizzazz. To us, the Gen Xl would be omnipresent in the parking lot of a AARP Convention! 😆😆😆
No comparison, Honda just does it better. Not to sure which one I want, hatchback touring with a lot of extra features and storage or the Si Love both , great review !!!!!
I love how they took a huge risk going conservative with the design. My dealership told me they sold their civics that are on pre Oder through April and May
@@naveenthemachine I think the space in the trunk alone is the deciding factor. The only problem is the pricing and I think honda lost an opportunity there. They should have put the manual in lower trims for them to get more sales. In that case, toyota is banking for sales at a lower price point if we don't include the trunk space, honda wins in that department no doubt.
@@alvinsimba734 not just that. Rear seat space the feature content the cabin design materials and build quality and fit and finish are simply better on the Honda.
@@naveenthemachine you might be right on that alone. Toyota interiors are probably at the bottom compared to all competition in that segment generally speaking. I'm speaking from someone who daily drives 2020 corolla sedan LE and interior at times is just bland and can easily put you to sleep. The only question now is let's see how that turbo engine from that honda hatchback performs over time and thats where the test is.
I don't know what you're talking about that the sport gets sports tuned suspension. According to the Honda website all 4 trims are listed as having MacPherson Strut Front Suspension. The brakes are also listed as the same size throughout all 4 trims.
I think the styling of this generation is vastly superior to the prior model. Nice review, Joe! You earned a Twinkie for that. The "on throttle" bit was certainly different than the experience with the Dodge Demon from days ago. :)
Americans have disliked hatchbacks for many years, unless the "hatch" or 5th door is attached to a vehicle that weighs over 5000 lbs - then that love it! VW just this tear pulled the Golf out of the U.S. The car has been selling here since 1974! Only the GTI and R are available at over 30 and 40K. I've driven nothing but Civic hatch's, and now a '08 Fit for decades. They just make sense, and speaking of sense, Honda proved that they have none by giving the Fit the old heave- ho in North America after being a mainstay for 15 years. The Fit faithful evidently are of no concern to these geniuses.
Id be super willing to get a manual transmission for a fun weekend car, but I need a commuter car that I can also take on 12 hour road trips and I would hate a manual for those purposes
Never understood this. Traffic or long trips, how hard is it to shift? I just did a long trip in a manual, it's great to downshift and pass somebody on the highway-then go back to cruising. Or, even better, backroads and thrashing the transmission the whole time. I mean, what else are you doing while you are sitting there in the car?
In traffic, having your foot directly on the pulse of the engine is a feeling that an Auto can never recreate, much less a CVT. My '18 Rallye Red Sport Touring 6MT still puts a smile on my face at 100 000km...

@@hondamanvtec2894 now that you mentioned a v16, why doesn’t anyone make a flat 8 engine? Or flat 12?
Thinking about getting this new hatchback in the sport touring. Currently have 18 civic and I spend a lot of time driving so wanting to get some of those luxury details. So excited about the Bose sound system and leather so nice. I am thinking the hatchback will give me the much needed extra cargo space for fitting all work stuff school stuff and kids sports gear. I was considering a rav 4 hybrid… but not sure.
Does the sport touring have a quieter ride than the EXT from 2018? That’s one of my complaints is that the road noise is quite loud in my civic
At 5:57, why is there a hole in the exhaust??
Been waiting for this one! Let's go! 💪🏾💪🏾
I’m ready if you’re ready!
Honda + Manual = Fun 🤩
I think you should have threw in the Mazda Hatch to compare.. great review as always Joe!
I bought one that same color. Everybody compliments it.
Those rims are just killer. Super clean. I wish Honda uses those on other models as well.
This looks really good Joe. 👍
Good quality for the price
I’m so glad that you like it Tom!
The FIRST person I look for reviews! I honestly don’t even care what anyone else says!😂🎉
I wanted to buy this but i couldn’t
Imagine spending
31k for a civic.. really nice car
I was at a Honda dealership yesterday and after all the fees the final price came out to be $37K...I don't know if it would be worth it for that amount.
@@peruvianheat2053 it’s not worth it for even 26K, hold the line.
Always with the amazing videos
I appreciate you having my back!
Nice review, Joe!
My son loves that new 2022 Civic Hatch Sport Touring!
Joe thanks for the great review, I just bought a 22 Civic sport/touring hatch with HPD cosmetics in boost blue
liking it so far
Looks more grown up than the Corolla. I’m in my 30s and I’d love to have one of these
i just got a 2021 civic sport hatchback and i love the design more than the one shown in the video , also i raced a mustang and lost , raced a v6 Camaro and lost , raced my brothers 2016 Subaru WRX and most definitely lost (he got thing so modded tho)
yeaaaaaaaaaaah if only my civic had at least 240hp or something i would love it even more , the launch is so slow but it's fast once it gets going.
You should have waited one more year. This car looks and is much better than the 2021 model.
One thing is for sure, this generation of Civic is not the head turner.
Great thing I got a 10th gen hatchback sport 2021 instead of this. Previous gen looks more aggressive
Another great video! i really wish Honda made the hatchback available in the Si trim. I'll have to cut down on my twinkie buying to save up and think about the typeR if they make it a 5 seater this year instead of a 4 seater again.
The dealer markup on this car is insane.
I love it my boy Joe keep up the work and I love the video lot real true 💯
Joe how does the new Civic Hatchback compare to the Mazda hatchbacks what's your opinion
Mazda’s auto transmission is better and it has more horsepower. Better handling too.
I like the silhouette of Honda though. It’s more sexy.
Thank you for this, you the apple of car reviews :)
This is literally bigger than the Accords from the 2000's.
2002 Accord: 189.4”
2007 Accord 191.1”
2008 Accord 194.3”
2022 Civic Hatchback: 179”
It has been the case for a long time , now
My son and I went through this choice one year ago.
2022 hatch looks way better than the sedan if I were to choose
You and Laurie always do a great review
Lori is great isn’t she?
@@2004cyrus she is a pro
Really enjoy your videos
I love how they took a huge risk going conservative with the design. My dealership told me they sold their civics that are on pre Oder through April and May
12:21 Dad Jokes 101... Taking Notes haha
Thanks for letting me bring the laughs and this Civic!
Thanks for going over in detail and not hacking it like a lot of the younger guys did for this car!
Gotta love Lori dude
She is amazing #bestinthebiz
Like it better than the Corolla for sure. That space in the back is huge
Anything beats the corolla…
@@alvinsimba734 the only Toyota interior I really love tbh is the Camry XSE with the red interior
Awesome 👌 walk through.
You are so very welcome!
Has rev hang but not as bad as the Si.Nice review.
I don't know what you're talking about that the sport gets sports tuned suspension. According to the Honda website all 4 trims are listed as having MacPherson Strut Front Suspension.
The brakes are also listed as the same size throughout all 4 trims.
So now the manual corolla hatch and civic sport touring have the same 0-60 at 7.4 to 7.5s. 10th Gen was significantly quicker in the high 6s.
Just bought a 2023 in the same color! Sport model!
I think the styling of this generation is vastly superior to the prior model. Nice review, Joe! You earned a Twinkie for that. The "on throttle" bit was certainly different than the experience with the Dodge Demon from days ago. :)
Hardest working man in auto journalism.
Seems like the hatchback is coming back. You can't beat the practicality.
The 6 speed manual the one I'd get. Very disappointing that Honda dropped the manual in all of its sedans.
Sales numbers were way low for 6MT sedans...
Love the Corolla sedan still has a manual transmission available
Id be super willing to get a manual transmission for a fun weekend car, but I need a commuter car that I can also take on 12 hour road trips and I would hate a manual for those purposes
I can totally understand where you are coming from!
Drove a Civic Manual lately? It's lovely, even on a long road trip. Much more fun than a boring CVT.
