Playing records is "pleasurably inconvenient" - Nice way of putting it
“Pleasurably”....COMMERCIAL!....”inconvenient”
This is the first ‘What’s in my Bag’ that I can fully get behind.
It's actually one of the first that I disliked.
Really?? That's shocking. You obviously haven't seen too many.
Weenis.
@@rphanmurphy8385 Why is it shocking that he hasn't seen that many?
swear that shepard is just elon musk's twin who did art instead
Whenever I'm running out of music I binge a few amoeba vids and replenish my playlists.
when he started talking about The Clash, I'M ALL FOR IT!!!
I love his explanation for the London Calling choice. He can articulate why he loves it perfectly.
I knew he was into punk. I've seen a bunch of pictures of him with punk icons and wearing band shirts. He just designed a killer poster for Off! ,one of my favorite bands. This was installment was definitely an echo chamber for me.
I am excited about the Warsaw release. When I was a kid I was obsessed with Joy Division and was fascinated with the Warsaw cuts.
Awesome perspective on the importance of vinyl and record players.
this was a great episode - love what he said at the end about records
Sharing this vid with my 16 year old, The Clash is her all time favorite band. We visited Hollywood a couple months ago and walked into Amoeba with her grandma in tow. My dear retired librarian mom was absolutely overwhelmed in there and wanted to leave asap haha. Have to admit we were overwhelmed with the selection too and of course I didn't have our list of must-have records on me so we didn't know where to start. In a rush I grabbed Blitzen Trapper's Furr and Andrew Bird's Echolocations: River. Needless to say, wish we'd had a lot more time in there. Mom put the pressure on bc she knew we'd be there hours if she didn't. Hope we get to return someday.
I was already a huge fan of his art work; now that i know that he's a huge Clash and Damned fan... wow much respect!
Thank you Amoeba..we rock🤘
turns out we have very similar tastes, especially love the can and joy division picks.
very cool guy.
He has great taste---exactly the kind of stuff I like!
I'LL NEVER RUN OUT OF MUSIC. THERE IS JUST WAY TOO MUCH MUSIC OUT THERE TO DIG FOR.
Great music selection by Fairey.
didn't know matt damon was such a punk fan
I get more French Stewart vibes from him.
...I like these album transitions.
A truly amazing dude.
Very good episode 👌
The Clash, Kinks, Warsaw and then THE DAMNED! maan I have new found respect for Shepard. Fuck Yeah.
I think he'll be suprised how different that Can LP to the rest of their catalogue but seeing how punky the rest of his selection is, he'll dig it
I had a feeling the clash would come up before I clicked on this..
Great picks, great episode (as always).
Hello Amoeba! Have you got anything planned with Angel Olsen?
I recommend people to check out Shepard Fairey's episode on Crate Diggers where he talks about and shows off his record collection.
i am instantly a fan of this guy, based on the good things he said about The Clash.
You had me at The Clash 💀🖤
The Clash had me at the Clash!!
what a selection!
This is probably the best "What's in my Bag?" IMHO.
Exactly what i thought he would suggest.
I gotta get that Warsaw record
Nice selection
cool selection, the man knows his stuff.........
Please do Orville Peck when he returns from Europe!
We're hoping to when he performs at Amoeba Hollywood on Aug 12. Stay tuned!
Amoeba omg omg omg!
"pleasurably inconvenient" is what everyone aches for these days. extra steps and physical touch. the experience of a process
Always liked Shepard such a knowledgeable dude.
Warsaw sounds great in that LP
Good knowledge.
Also, huge shout out to Shepard for letting his daughters listen to what they want to listen to. I can't stand those hipsters that force their music on their kids. Let them have their thing!
As a rule, if you try to force kids to like something, they'll hate it.
The legend!!
Please bring Steven Wilson or Mikael Akerfield.
Really like the fact that you don't bring only musicians.
Keep it up!
Awesome
Shepard rules!
SAME HERE BRUTHA....NO MATTER HOW FAR WE GET WITH TECHNOLOGY..... I'M STICKING WITH VINYL.
damn, he is almost 50yo... looks great!
Yes, Shepard Fairey!!!!
I dig this cat. Also we REALLY need an Al Jourgensen what's in my bag.
I know he really loves Air Supply and Christopher Cross.
Cool dude.
FUCKING LOVE WARSAW!
Great choice, very likeable guy. Tidy.
CAN IS DOPE...HARD TO FIND O.G.'S OF THAT STUFF AROUND BOSTON.
Dude didn’t even pick THEY LIVE?
It's not What's In Rory's Bag
good episode. do jack nicholson or louie anderson.
Well, okay.
I will *obey* his playlist.
go to bed dad
mentions lil yacht but only plays cartis part...this guy has 2 murals in my city
thanks for the lecture on the clash
Awesome Bag...No trendy beard either.....I have a Mission Of Burma boxset with etched art on bsaide by Shepard 8 records
His points about the vinyl experience are so great, and I'd add that it really helps/forces you to listen to something as an album, and not in chunks or on shuffle - you're listening to it as the artist intended by how they sequenced it. I also remember as a kid finding so much great music and discovering I loved an artist because I would buy a CD based on one song I liked. It really is the ultimate music lover's experience!
Also rolling a spliff on a CD cover is shit .
SHEP, The Giant MultiMedia Creator, at it again at omeba!
is that stephen colbert in the audience at 5:33?
sure is
Get Harley Poe’s Joe Whiteford in store and on the show!!!
FUCK YEAH WARSAW (joy divisions) early years
... pass?
One of things on my bucket list is to one day meet Shepard Fairey. #Obey
Intro song??
Some old school that may have been re- sampled. It's on the edge of my brain but I can't find it.
You're welcome.
It's called "Walk on by", by Issac Hayes.
Likes can but hasnt heard delay?
You're not allowed to like a band until you've heard everything they've done?
👌🏾😎👊🏾
Once I found out who he was.
"What the fuck does he think he has done?"
“Never need to listen to Lil Yachty again”, well fucking said. I’ll drink to that.
Yeesh.
His picks were pretty much what you'd think they'd be. Lol.
"Hi, I'm Shepard Fairey. I used to criticize the US Government with satirical propaganda - and now I just straight up make *actual* propaganda for the US Government."
Anybody else see Stephen Colbert at 5:30?
Get Steve Jones
Wow, it’s almost what I would have enjoyed. (But the idea of having Combat Rock before Give ‘em enough Rope & London Calling & Sandinista was a bit depressing). Props for The Damned. They were the first & the still are a great live & recording band. Not sure how old his daughters are, but keep playing the best songs & they will catch on, mine always had good taste, but was somewhat influenced by the Meme music. Luckily she grew out of it. I love this mans work & I have a lithograph.
great way to represent were dying off..........
Fairey stea;s art and refuses to pay for it.
7:34 is no one going to mention how that was Carti and not Yachty ... 🤦🏻♂️
I noticed that, but maybe there were rights issues. The message in what he was saying isn't damaged, I'm sure Shepard Fairey would have said the same about Carti.
@@OBFLife You're sure? lol
THAT TO ME IS LIKE LISTENING TO CHICKEN'S CLUCKING IN STEREO.... WHILE TIED UP UPSIDEDOWN....LIL YACHTY?????????? NOOOOOOOOO..
what's in shepard fairey's bag? other people's ideas
who ?
skypjuh just listen 🙄
You may not know his name but you will have seen his work
@@bmorris5863 that might have been the most Americancentric remark I'll ever read in the comment section of a video put out by Amoeba, a record store that invites almost exclusively vapid nobodies of artists who go out of their way to show the most exotic 'foreign' music nobody has ever heard of in order to seem *unique* and *original*
@@N3ukenInD3K3uken that's the most stupid thing I have ever heard in my life, i'm sorry dude but you're a hole in the air
@@N3ukenInD3K3uken shit dude the clash are so exotic.
Shepard Fairy is the ultimate sell out shill, don’t be like Shepard.
"You can only sell out if people are willing to buy in."
I wish I could sell out.
"Orthodox Punk"..... Oxymoron, I think....
Haha I think he means that old basic 3-chord stuff that Ramones and early hardcore bands did.
What's in my Bag? I'm not sure it's Brand New.
*Mother Station, Brand New Bag* Band out of Memphis.
😁
How did I know this would be pretentious as fuck.
Pretty Decent,Kinda Punk/Hipster Normie type picks but still some great stuff nonetheless!!!
Why should people only talk about obscure stuff?
Cool you got a bunch of stuff you have already known about for years, and reminded us that you made it big by ripping off other peoples work.
To be fair, if I did a What's In My Bag episode, I'd pick the ones I want to talk about the most. When I go into a record store for real my favorite things to buy are the weird compilations and stuff like that but I wouldn't know what to say about most of it. lol
That Karen O and Danger Mouse is awful
Shepard Fairey is that guy from high school who wanted to be cool but wasn't so he did the opposite of everything the cool kids were doing and thought that made him cool.
More like he knows that everyone who buys into the concept of "cool" is, by default, inherently uncool.
@@ariescustom Precisely! Well said..
@Bleek Chain Yep and swims in his money bin from it every night.
Never trust the "cool" kids in school, they often peak then and there.
It seems like he just does whatever he wants
Mmm woah they are scraping the barrel lately.
I guess I’ll be the asshole: this selection was basic as hell.
Lame
Ladies and Gents, one of the biggest sellouts of our time;
3:48 please... Blur and Oasis don't owe the kinks shit. Hey I love the Kinks... But "This is a Low" by Blur and "Supersonic" Oasis, has nothing to do with the Kinks.
Pretty much every rock band since 1964 has had something to do with the Kinks
@@mitchclark1532 not really... especially since "you really got me" wasn't even out until 1965. And the only reason the Kinks exist is because of the british invasion because of the beatles. And on the original comment about blur and oasis the beatles were WAY more impactful than the kinks. Punk music, ya... the kinks played a roll.
