I admire them for showing a bit of diversity among record collectors.
agreed, this dude's passion and knowledge is spot on.
I'm glad Ben admitted that $2500 was a stretch for him. He's just a regular guy, after all...not Dr. Dre! It makes his love for vinyl that much more legit and shows he's serious about it.
Paying several hundred dollars doesn't mean you're serious about records or that you're a digger, just means that 1) you have the money to buy those records on eBay and that 2) you don't take time to properly dig to find in-demand records at low prices and maybe trade them (for the records you're really after), for example.
@Jason Lee and, in theory, you can always sell it -worst case scenario. possibly even make a profit.
Poncho C. Saint Fingers "When I come Knocking" is LEGIIIIIIIT!!! Thank you Ben Blackwell I just listened and I am hooked!!! Kudos on great taste in music!!!!
This is by far the most interesting Crate Diggers I've seen great 45's/singles, and I'm actually more into LP's but awesome nonetheless.
Henry rollins for this series!!!
I think its a good idea but I don't think he'd have a lot of really rare vinyls like these guys do for sampling
He sure dóes have a lot of rare stuff!
Get Henry Rollins for this series.
That was fun Ben, good stuff buddy.
Giles Peterson, DJ Harvey, Keiron Hebden, Theo Parrish, Floating Points. Would love to see any of those on here. Great episode anyway!
I wasn’t particularly interested in LPs when I started collecting singles and felt a bit awkward about it when I was younger, but watching this video and reading Ben’s Dustandgrooves interview made realise it was alright to be more into singles than LPs
Ben Blackwell inspired me to find out what my city's FIRST rap record is! I would love to thank him in person for that.
I agree. Always loved 45's.
Thanks Big Ben.
At first I thought, "who the hell is this guy?" But he clearly really knows his stuff and is playing a part in vinyl's ongoing success. Cool that Fuse isn't just sticking to hip hop guys too.
This video just inspired me to play some of my singles.
I've got that Jolene single he holds up...except it's on the Sympathy for the Record Industry label. If memory serves me.
Nice touch adding the links to the songs he named on the side. I find so much good music from watching these.
Very informative! One of the best so far!
Awesome 45 collection !
One very rare record is Joe South's Completely Unreleased "Riverdog" it would be a 45 Single recorded in the 70's The Label wouldn't release it because the exec believed South Mentioning "cosmic sea" was "too psychedelic" and sounded too drug influenced. It's a great and soulful cut track.
Riverdog, Joe South, 1973, Capitol Records 7" single P-3717
Me too. I'm glad they branched out instead of just sticking to hip-hop.
Detroit Love!
Love this one!
I have always felt the same way about 45s over LPs
Also a great photo profile and audio mix of Ben and his records at the fantastic Dust & Grooves site.
"What if I *neeed* it??"
I feel that multiple times weekly. I buy too many records.
I agree, they should cover also non-DJ episodes. But also I don't listen to hip-hop but the soul and funk knowledge these guys have is insane.
Yeah MADLIB aka quasimoto!!! He needs a crate diggers feature as well!
Being from Detroit, I appreciate his knowledge. Plus he own an original copy of Death's single. Respect!
oh yeah l love listening to polystyrene records they sound so good
I've always been like Ben. I've got a few hundred LPs. But the main thing that gets me going is 45s.
I need to see a Q-Tip episode!
I have those same Disc-Go-Cases :)
Paris - Rock Down.....I got a copy, very tough find!
he looks so much like jack and his mannerisms are so similar it’s crazy
RZA, Madlib, Kanye, Damu The Fudgemunk, Q-TIP Please !!
I love this series to death... but what's up with Premier, Large Pro, Madlib, etc. etc...??
I struggle with the "What if I need it!?!" problem a lot myself, I own multiple copies of many things, from records, to movies, to games. usually only my favorite things, but what if I lost one or one got damaged?
An interesting choice, as was Hank III. If the series is going to report on collections outside hip-hop, maybe Quentin Tarantino. Apparenty, he's apparently a massive digger. If FUSE wants to go trans-Atlantic - I'd love to see Andrew Weatherall, Vadim or Amon Tobin. If it's going back to hip-hop - Madlib, Q-Tip, RZA and Shadow fersure.
Next episode should DJ Shadow, Premier, or The Avalanches!
i would like to see collections from six too the p brothers and madlib
I'd like to see Thes One from PUTS collection
Where does he keep his Donny Osmond?
Still waiting on the bomb squad episode
Please please please please get Preemo on this.
What are those cans he's talking about at @5:00?
+Oliver Jackson The containers he has are Record Traveling/carrier cases
Sounds like he likes music from Detroit, soul (Northern), and far out groups. I didn't see one classical rock n roll record. This kid ever hear of The Beatles, Stones, Who or Sun label??
Desoxyn Man the label he works for just reissued a lot of those old Sun records recently. He has em.
GIVE US MADLIB!!!
I'd never sell to Italy but I would buy as Paypal protects the buyer.
Crate Diggers went from memorable legends to "who the fuck is that guy?!" so quickly... Dope episode nonetheless...
Jack Tejada good ol Ben. Legend in the making
so this guy is basically Jack Black in High Fidelity?
The Kegs? Is that how u spell it?
Lol Man a LOT of the cats you all want to see... you probably never will.
Take a shot every time he says Detroit
The Keggs 45 is called "To Find Out/Girl", epic, out-of-tune, stuff.
we all wanna beatmaker
next episode - MADLIB -
DJ Dexta needed.
do a double special madvillian
BRING THE RZA
The Vertebrats?
do cherrystones
& I thought I had a pretty severe case of OCD...yeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh.
i dont like 45s. i like long plays. 45s better than nothing. but i always try to get the albuns.
My anaconda don't-want-none-unless-you've gat albuns
+francisco desousa i just recently started getting really really into 45s. a lot of punk, experimental and synthy music released in the 70s and 80s was only released on 45 singles.
What up!! My Name is Al Buns.
I like 45s and LPs. the thing about 45s is a lot of music was only ever released on a 45.
Get Jack White to do one.
Jack doesn't own a lot of records. He thinks it would limit some of his creativity.
Kon and Amir, DJ Muro
Patience....
I know berry gordy.
Im ask him about that 45s
yeah.. death's shit was hard
this is nothing compared to DJ SCANDIN's collection, check it out, an exclusive episode on my channel.
Nardwuar would be really fantastic for this series.
:)
Who?
Hank william 3
Is detroit really that good?
Ty Segall's brother
he either has it completely dialled in , or has missed so much great music that its ridiculous
dont like LPs? search for the track?
the point of a good LP is to enjoy the album as a whole, especially a concept album. lets say the wall by pink floyd you cant judge the album unless you listen to "the album", not hear the songs in random order. to me, 45s are ONLY collectibles and/or for bands you only like a few songs by.i have plenty of pink floyd singles but i wouldnt ever play them when i want to sit down and listen to music. i like singles but im always looking for amazing albums.
The 45 King... Caucasian version.. lol
Lots of talk about dollar amounts and not much about his personal connection to the music....
My least favorite type of collector.
Maybe you heard a lot but you clearly weren't listening...
shirt too tight
