Me 2 minutes in: “I can totally do this!”
Me halfway through; “What kind of magic is this?!?!”
    ...absolutely gorgeous!

    Beautiful place!
(A tip: small pieces of Museum Putty will hold those half pans in place).

I saw a video yesterday where Cathy Johnson had two tins with hinges like yours, and she pulled the lid off of one because it will fit onto the bottom of the other tin. So you can have a water container and use the other lid as a mixing space but it takes up no extra space. It just sticks together like a tin with a lid top and bottom.

Great picture. Enjoyed watching it come together. The atmosphere of the running water and being enveloped in the shades of the creekside really enhance watching you create your art. Like your style.

So amazing to see this come to life before my eyes, thank you so much for sharing. I learnt a lot about how to approach plein air painting :D

omg...how in the world you can see what you see and paint it when looking at a scene of so much at once! that would be the problem I would have. I have yet to do Plein air because of this reason..my eye has a hard time zoning in without getting detailed..you are so good! I did learn a lot thou and will give it a try..please do more of these! thanks

That's definitely a tricky aspect. When we paint from a photograph, everything is already flattened for us so it's much easier. But that's why plein air is so good for training your eye. I usually start by pinpointing what exactly drew me to this place - what got me excited when I first saw it. Was it the light? the colors? the water? etc. - Then as I'm painting, I ignore anything that doesn't help me "tell the story." It's not about copying what I see, rather it's about telling the story of that moment in time, capturing a mood or emotional connection to the land. That way when I look back at my sketchbook I FEEL like I'm there again.

Beautiful setting and love your painting style. I had no idea you had moved this side of the pond, last time I saw your vlog you were Stateside. Hope you are loving our amazing Scotland. I have subscribed to your channel so I don't loose you again.

This is so beautiful!! I struggle with watercolour but watching you has given me sooo many good tips so thank you!! I have tube watercolour paints, can i put the paints into a palette like you have there and will they work the same? I’m scared to try it incase they dry out and I waste the paint!

    • @SarahBurnsStudio
      @SarahBurnsStudio  4 роки тому +1

Absolutely you can put your watercolor tube paint into the palette. That's what I do. They are designed to dry between uses. You can easily reactivate them with water. (That is not the case with other mediums)

But seriously, what a wonderful finale to your sketch book. I've got my watercolor set coming up and i'm a complete novice. Any advice for a perfectionist?
Enjoyed the whole video heartily. Thanks.

LOL good one. Hmmm let's see...from a scatterbrained ADHD artist to a perfectionist my advice is: don't worry. Stop worrying about the outcome. Just truly enjoy every moment, each brushstroke, watch the pigment flow and mix, enjoy the magic!

Beautiful and amazing that you created this with only 6 paint colors! What paint brand and colors you used?

Hi, I am new on your you tube videos. Superb painting, and I enjoyed watching the scenery emerging from the white page. Amazing, unbelievable, saw this for the first time! And Sorry if I missed the information on your sketchbook somewhere, but I would like to know what brand it is. Looks very good how the paper reacts to wet on wet, and also to thicker consistency of paint. Thanks!

This is a moleskin watercolor album. However I personally don't like them for watercolor anymore. I believe they changed their paper or something because it doesn't perform well. I prefer Seawhite of Brighton watercolor plein air sketchbooks now, OR if you can get your hands on a Strathmore 500 series sketchbook, Etchr, or even make your own from 100% cotton you will be much happier.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Now I know which one I will order. Then I have already watched your video on DI Y sketchbook, and I will definitely try one to do :-)) Take care and thanks ones more.

As a reluctant beginner, who just wants to be able to do some watercolor sketches, I am “fearful” of trying. The way you developed this scene from start to finish is just a great example of how someone has learned their art so that it appears effortless to some and magical to others. I’m going to study this, like the way I breakdown jazz solos to chord progressions, so that I may overcome the fear of the blank paper.

When you are plain air painting are you ever nervous about people coming over to see what you are doing? Being a beginner all my paintings are embarrassingly awful. Any advice? By the way I love your videos , your sweet spirit and your love of nature

    • @SarahBurnsStudio

Thank you Tom! That's really nice of you. I stopped caring a long time ago about what people think of my art especially sketches. I know it seems scary at first but I realized that either 1. The people seeing it are not artists and therefore anything I do will seem impressive, or 2. They are an artist so they understand the learning process (and especially the importance of sketching). So don't worry! Life is too short. Just do what you love

Hey Ann! Thank you :) The colors I used were: Daniel Smith Diospide Genuine, Prussian Blue, Quinacridone Burnt Orange. W&N Permanent Mauve. Sennelier Neutral Tint. Schmincke Cadmium Yellow Light.

Seriously though, most speed up video, you should slow yours down, and don't tell anyone. What you do in 13 minutes is sorcery.
