Great content Josh! I use the same color palette and almost the same mixes. It's incredible how Payne's Gray + Sap Green look really similar to DS Undersea Green. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much! I honestly haven’t tried many other greens, (except Pthalo Green - as a mixer) but every time I think of getting others, I feel like it’s not worth trying since I have a nice range anyway. But that’s good to know. Undersea is one of those I’ve seen in peoples palettes and thought about. Same with Serpentine Genuine. Anyway, thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
There is a yelloww that i depend on more and more for mixing greens and peachy ( i have iris of several shades of ) and that is nickle azo..from daniel green..i might have one from m.graham in my studio palette. For landscapes in my southern NYS spring, it's a necessity
Great video. What brand of paints 🎨 are you mixing? W & N? White Nights, DS? You just popped up in my feed, so thos is the first video of yours, for me. So I'm not familiar with your pallette. Subscribed. 👍 I am shopping for my first 🎨 pallette in over a decade and I am going to decide based on the mixing. My art teachers taught us mixing & then we had to do the entire gray scale of 10 with white & black. I will treat myself to other colors, later.
Thanks! All of my paints are Daniel Smith. I have a tube of white Guache from Holbein that I use for some things - but I don’t think anything in this video.
Yes and no. Yes it kind of hits around February, but we don’t get cold enough here for many plants to lose leaves etc, so this is more or less what it looked like all winter. Just a little more fog and pollution through the winter months. In general, it’s super nice.
Hi Josh. Thank you for the demo. I love Sap Green but I don't use it. Why did you decide on Sap versus a Hooker's Green (regular) or Hooker's Green Dark? I find that Sap is a littel weak and light in hue. What other GREENS do you have in any of your palettes? Your thoughts will be appreciated. Cheers.
@@MelkamMengued Hi! Thanks for the comment. I actually haven’t ever used Hookers Green before. I have a Daniel Smith test sheet I’m hoping to try out soon with blues & greens (I did the reds and yellows for another video). So I’m curious what I think of it when I try it out there. I like Sap Green because of its warmth mostly. I haven’t found it super weak in hue, but I’m often adding either yellow or blue to it to make it warmer or cooler anyway, so I can’t say I use it in raw form too often. I’ll definitely have more to say after I try out my sheet of greens!
It would be interesting to watch as you adjust the shades while mixing colors on your pallet by putting it in front of the camera. Thank you
Definitely will try to do a better job of that in the future. I often forget to move the tray in front while I mix.
You are so easy to follow, thank you from Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you!
I'm putting a new palette together and found this quite helpful. Thank you!
@@davidmalinowski3930 glad to help!
I like to paint trees and landscapes so the basic palette using sap green with the other few colors is very helpful

Great recommendation! Thanks!
@JoshWileyPaintings one of my blues has to be Prussian as I mix with Hansa yellow for. A " hunter" green look alike.
@@marjoriejohnson6535 sounds cool! I’ll have to try it. I love Prussian as a colour, so I’m interested to see it mixed.

Dude... your backyard is gorgeous. Did spring came early where you live?
