  • In early 2014, I had the opportunity to interview Rachel Dolezal for my senior thesis. These videos are unedited.
Here is part 5. She is addressing her "mixed identity" and more.

As a black man viewing this clip, I find Rachel bizarre, captivating, and offensive all at the same time. Her story is amazing in every way.

This should have thrown up some red flags. A female professor of Africana studies that had truly lived all of her life as a Black woman would NOT have bumbled her way through an interview like this. At some points, you can clearly tell that she is BSing her way through it.

Derek Womble She was an instructor not a professor-Eastern Washington University distanced itself from Dolezal, saying she’s been hired since 2010 on a “quarter by quarter basis as an instructor in the Africana education program. This is a part-time position to address program needs. Dolezal is not a professor. www.insidehighered.com/news/2015/06/15/academics-weigh-curious-case-rachel-dolezal

Also, how does a white woman going through domestic violence correlate with the WW's want to touch a black woman's hair? Its actually a little hilarious. This lady is not crazy, she is highly educated. Yet she did try to highjack the Black experience. This is one helluva grad project for Howard lmao. She could have been very valuable if she had been true to herself and the world, instead of going to these lengths to embed herself into Black culture. She has integrity, moral and ethical issues----all of which are assumptions the world already makes about Black folks. She may have done great things but now she is a parody on SNL.

She has no idea about the 'Black experience'. It doesn't matter how many people she fooled and for how long, she will NEVER understand the black experience for one reason mainly and that is......SHE CAN CHANGE HER MIND!
Whenever she wants, whenever the 'struggle' gets too hard or too much or too inconvenient, she can simply stop, get rid of the tan and take off the extensions. She can 'opt out' and that is why she will never understand.
She will always be genetically white, will always produce at least Half white children and will always ALWAYS have to fake it. All it takes is and year of no tans, fake or otherwise and no perms extentions and and the real her will come out.
This is an extreme case of cultural and RACIAL appropriation.

How dare she insult, among the rest of the world, her son's teacher saying that she (the teacher) might not know how to correctly pronounce "Nigeria"?
Second, when she tells her little stories, mostly regarding her children, she is quite unconvincing.

Kinda funny how she says you can't ignore the other sides of your self yet she ignores the fact that she was born a blonde white woman. I have been asked so many times if I am mixed because of my hair and when I tan I am darker but I'm white not mixed or mexican or anything else. I would never lie or just because someone thinks. I was asked by my teacher in high school if I was mixed I said no I'm white no mind you my teacher was black. She then asked me if my dad was black or my mom lol I told her no both parents are white. I been asked if I was mexican and when I was dating one guy even told me he wanted to take me out because I'm mexican lol I was like but I'm not lol. I don't get that so much any longer but I did alot in the past. I just don't get how she thinks it okay to mislead people into thinking she is mixed or black or what ever just be honest. You are white and both parents are white. Come on lady I don't see how the black community would like a white woman telling people she is mixed or light skinned lol which would make people asume she is mixed. She has lied on paper work why I don't know but I find this rather funny and kinda bothersome that no one has called ger out sooner. You can still be a part of what you belive just be honest about who you are.

She says she wants to create opportunities for blacks. She omitted on purpose though that she is reserving some of them for her white self. And then when she is revealed to be not black, she displays to the world an act of complete confusion on why everyone is disgusted by her conduct. This woman belongs in politics. She is an absolutely untrustworthy person who creates fake news, speaks at length but not in detail enough to take accountability on anything, and carries zero integrity behind anything she says. She blabs, says nothing, you listen, and she expects a paid position in society for that. She is born for politics. A complete natural.

She said something to the effect that no one should ever ask to touch a black woman's hair but it might be ok for a white woman who is on an emotional recovery after being in an abusive relationship to ask to touch a black woman's hair... WTF?! I also can't believe the part where she talked about white kids bothering her son at school.. and she said she would have to go have a talk with the white teacher to invent language to have a "white to white talk" with the kid's parents. She clearly doesn't realize that would be creating another problem. The teacher should just do what's right and make sure the kids stop harassing her son.

Now the public is aware of the truth surrounding RD's ethnicity, it seems more apparent in interviews she's not fully honest.
I've watched a couple now, and she uses "um" and "you know" a bit excessively.
I'm actually confused at some of her points because of her round about way of speaking.
She's an interesting woman and this is interesting news; I just feel sad for any potential cognitive disorders she may have.
This is pure speculation: but perhaps due to heavy corporal punishment/other abuses in childhood, she's sought a new identity.

What I have NEVER done, or even had the slightest notion of doing, is lay in a tanning bed, put on an afro wig and start claiming to be black. It would be stupid to do so. Tha saddest thing about this was she needed tha attention so deeply it was almost nearly a version of ethnic Munchasen Syndrome. There are many a fake former ex-CIA agents telling tales in bars and people claiming Native American ancestry as there are hairs on her head. If she hadn't needed the spotlight in a way, no one would of cared and many Americans grew up in blended ethnicity that they can claim both worlds. The case for trans ethnic identity isn't new, it has often religous and cultural components that are found through out history. If Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner came out as a transgendered African American Woman would we have been as welcoming or of been ridiculed.Had Dolezal always presented herself as having trans ethnic identity from the start maybe we'd pause and think how much culture is nearly as equal as ethnicity in who we identify ourselves as.

To all the haters. Just let her be black. If you can men be gay knowing every man is suppose to straight, and let Bruce Jenner be Caitlyn,Let Priest molest children, and let eminem act black, then you can certainly let her do her thang.

I can't believe people hate her. She is a person who is completely comfortable with race. Which is a trait of intelligence. There needs to be more people in the world like her.

It is known that females (women) have special, intuitive senses and are able to feel or see beyond the norm. Rachel's inner being told her she was different.
Bruce explained it very well: He always felt he was other than what he seemed.
Sometimes what is in us is too powerful to hold inside of us.

I don't have a problem with her wanting to identify and "appropriate" blackness but on the same token I don't have a problem with people questiong her or her parents speaking out. I like her and empathize with her. I wish her the best moving forward. I'm curious if having light eyes was a motivating factor. I love light eyes with dark/black complexions. If Rachel Dolezal had brown eyes, she might have observed herself as (cute but) average looking and might not have taken any such curiosities to fruition but with light eyes, I could see her standing out more and garnering more "approving" attention. Also, could light eyes have made her more accessible/approachable to people from "both sides" and did she feed off that to some extent?

I think she just felt more comfortable as a black women. She related to black women. Hell, frankly, I think she did look better as a black women. I think it's ok. She is doing great things for the black community which is more than what a lot of actual black people are doing. She could be just another white woman in her own white privileged world not giving a damn about black people or their struggles. It's funny to me that if she had been seen as a white woman.. None of these black people would have respected or liked her as well.. CLEARLY. So who is in the wrong? Her pretending to be black to help the black community and be accepted or the black community for feeling like they were fooled because they know they would not have accepted her if she had been white. Just shows that white people aren't the only ones that see color and change their feelings based on color. Am I the only one that feels let down?It has truly changed my views on white privilege and racism, I will never judge a white person for making a judgment based on color any longer because I now see that it's exactly what black people do too. I am the one that has been fooled. I'm just let down by what some people are saying about this woman.

You're ignorant. She didn't relate to black women. A privileged white woman can NEVER understand what it is to be a black woman, even with kinky hair and tan skin. She can take the makeup off and be white again if she wants. We live as black people day in and day out. She wasn't even black, she was tan-skinned and blue eyed. And for you to say she wouldn't have been accepted is a lie. There are many white women and white men who have done thing for the cause and have been accepted. We don't tend to reject people, seeing as how we know what it's like to be rejected.

How in the Sam hell did this woman become an educator? She is spewing pure nonsensical garbage. Does all this mess make sense in her head? It must be depressing to be her. I'm 2 years younger than her and I feel that at this age I am becoming more authentically me, and that sense just increases in time...yet she is going backwards with this identity crises and pathological lies. I'd bet real money this woman has several mental illnesses. I'd kind of understand this sort of behavior coming from a troubled teen more than a grown ass woman and mother.
