Nice review. This is a current top contender for me to replace the stock unit in a 2014 Corolla. Question I have is regarding USB. I understand the Iphone would only connect wirelessly but is there a solution possible to still connect the factory corolla USB to the AX6000. The crutchfield recommended package doesn't include the AX-TOYUSB but I was wondering if it was possible to connect the unit via USB-C to a USBC/USBA adapter then into a AX-TOYUSB to at least enable the factory USB for charging.
Nice review! I wonder if it is possible to have a USB drive plugged in and android auto at the same time. If so, only wireless or wired as well (with a usb splitter of some sort)?
The USB-C port supports the connection of a USB MSC (mass storage class) device with a USB-C connector when using wireless Android Auto. It does not support USB hubs or card-readers.
Thanks for the excellent overview video. I got this stereo installed in my 2018 Wrangler JK a few weeks ago and I love it. Great sound even with the top down and the integration features with IDataLink Maestro are excellent. I did want to get your thoughts though JR, if you wouldn't mind, regarding the use case for the USB connection on the back. It seems like it is intended to provide charging as well as a manual connection for Android Auto & Apple Car Play. However, I have no need for either as I have two 12V sockets in the Jeep and Android Auto works perfectly via bluetooth. It looks like the unit can also accept USB flashdrives for input, though I'm not really sure why they used USB-C instead of USB-A for the connection there (unless I am way behind the times and USB-C flashdrives have overtaken USB-A!). Am I missing something there? If I were going to use it, I would want to do a dash mount kit with HDMI+USB in a single assembly. However I cannot find a kit with micro-USB + USB-C male ends to connect to the Sony receiver with regular HDMI + USB-A (or USB-C for that matter) female ends to connect out to your devices. It just just seems like Sony didn't think through the hookups for the use cases or I am completely out to lunch. Are you aware of something that might work there? Thanks for your time.
Hi Nate, glad to hear you're enjoying our new radio. With more and more folks using their phones only these days, Sony has opted to move to the more and more common USB-C connection you find there. This model does not support wired Carplay. The input can be used for charging and wired Android Auto. Sorry, we do not currently offer a wired Android Auto compatible extension that combines the micro HDMI and USB-C.
To answer ur question on USB C, it can do up to 10 gigabits a second. It’s like twice as fast. Thunderbolt (basically USB C but like met Hunters plug) can do 40 gigabits per second. That’s like speed of 2 Usain Bolt’s compared to the average human fast to put in perspective. Wild analogies Ik, deal with it 😂

I just bought this. But did not get gps antenna with it. Do i have to buy separate? And which is the best gps antenna i can get for it. Also my android auto is not working wireless. Please guide. Thanks
A GPS antenna is supposed to come in the box. It is required for the wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to function. That may be part of your issue. We are not aware of any upgrades and always recommend using the one that Sony lists being included with this receiver. If you purchased your receiver from us, we recommend contacting our technical support for help regarding the missing antenna. We include their toll free phone number on the order invoice.
Would this fit a 2014 exl v6 accord perfectly without using the Scosche HA1717B? I’m looking to attain that factory look, it’s why I’m going for a 6.95in

Is there an amp already installed with this device (AX6000)? I'm confused if I need to buy an amp separate. If so is the amp any different/better than what's on the AX4000?
The XAV-AX6000 has an internal 4-channel amp rated at 20 watts RMS/55 watts peak per channel. And the internal amp on the XAV-AX4000 has the same power rating.

Hi Michael. the Sony XAV-AX6000 is an excellent choice and a good fit for your truck. Do you have the crew or king cab? Are there steering wheel controls for the factory radio or a factory backup camera you want to maintain? You will lose your factory satellite radio tuner when you replace the factory radio, do you want to add a new tuner to the Sony?
The ability to retain the 360 degree camera hinges on there being installation parts that can adapt that image to the Sony's camera input. We will be happy to check if we have any that can work. What year is your Tacoma? Which body style is it? Does it have the upgraded audio system (typically called JBL Audio system)?
I found Sony XAV-AX6000 buggy as Android auto is not connecting via wireless where I need to restart unit completely to get AA working, and I am running latest firmware from Sony, I am using Galaxy S21 Ulltra.
We hate that this is happening. We are not sure what, if anything, can be done, but we do recommend contacting technical support if you have not yet done so. If you purchased the Sony receiver from us, you can contact our technical support using their toll free phone number that we include on the order invoice.
Can you take that top antiglare screen protector off? I just bought one and it looks a little washed out and I feel like it would be better without it.
It is hard to say but does seem likely that it would not be able to be reinstalled. We have never tried to remove one due to possible warranty related issues linked to using it in a way that was not intended.
I have a dd 4.800 that can accept 10v input and a dd m4000 that can accept 8v. Do you recommend running a matrix or something like that to up the voltage I send to the amps using this receiver?
The Sony XAV-AX6000 has a solid 5-volts maximum on the preamp outputs, so it will sound great with your amps right out of the box. If you want to boost your voltage you can always install the AudioControl Matrix Plus 6-channel in the link below. The AudioControl can provide up to 9.5-volts maximum RMS output if you need it, I use these in almost all of my installs with amplifiers capable of high-voltage input. www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc166/p_161MATRIXP/AudioControl-Matrix-Plus.html
My right hand is paralyzed. Do you think the xav-ax6000 touchscreen can be operated with a solid object? I often use the back of a hairbrush on some touchscreens.
We have not tested its touchscreen to know what objects may be able to control it. That being said, capacitive touch screens can typically be controlled by a conductive object (an object that conducts electricity).
We will be happy to recommend a speaker for your 19689 Firebird and got a question to make sure we recommend on that fits. Did it come from the factory with air conditioning?
@crutchfield between these two which of these feature is more useful in sony xav ax8100 dso (dynamic stage organiser & extra bass) feature is more useful or sony xav ax 6000 time alignment (if i had sony components on front & coaxial at back with gs4 sony amp ) ...which feature is more useful
The Sony XAV-AX6000 Digital Multimedia Receiver does fit a double DIN chassis. We do have other options though with the single DIN fit and floating screen. What is the year, make, and model of your vehicle?
This Sony XAV-AX6000 radio's touchscreen monitor has a resolution of 800 RGB x 480 (1,152,000 pixels). A 720p backup camera would be an excellent match here, Paul!
The Sony XAV-AX6000 does provide for excellent sound quality via the wireless option. In general, a wired connection can offer the best overall sound quality. There are options that support both. If you'd like help choosing, please let us know.
Hi Alejandro, we're glad to help. Do you have a specific radio in mind or would you like help choosing? Do you have the coupe or sedan? Did your car come with factory nav or dual climate controls? Did it come with a factory subwoofer or CD changer?
@@crutchfield I have in mind the XAV-AX8500 and the XAV-AX6000, I have the normal radio with dual climate controls. Yes it has factory subwoofer and premium audio
We do have a kit available to fit either model radio. If you opt to use the Sony XAV-AX8500, be sure to measure to ensure the floating screen does not interfere with anything on or around your dash. the 10.1" monitor measures 10.565" (w) x 6.575" (h) x 1.4375" (d). What color is your dash? You'll find a good camera match here: www.crutchfield.com/I-rYTVc921/p_707VT601HD/Boyo-VTK601HD.html
I ended up getting it and I’ve had it for two weeks now. But my only complaint is google maps doesn’t work to good. It lags and can’t keep a steady connection which is very frustrating. I even updated it the latest firmware and still. So I might return it & end up getting a Pioneer instead
The Sony XAV-AX6000 can be paired with multiple devices (up to 10), but it can only be connected to a single device at a time for wireless music playback and hands-free calling.
This Sony receiver does not have a second camera input. It would not retain the lanewatch ability. We do offer receivers that are compatible with the iDatlink MRR radio installation modules and have a second camera input. Those radios can be found using this link: www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc227/g_473950/Digital-Multimedia-Video-Receivers.html?tp=78184&fa=1#&nvpair=AG_Inputs|FFCamera_(Second)&nvpair=AG_General_Features|FFiDatalink_Port
You could add a switch to have the option for more than one camera. To maintain your Side View / Lane Watch camera as they work now, your best bet is to move to an iDatalink compatible radio with a dedicated second camera input.
Would this work well in a 2003 Crown Victoria LX? I asked someone over the phone at Best Buy and they said something about needing “Premium Sound” for some of the CarPlay radios but I don’t know anything about that.

We have not been able to research either of those vehicles. We are only able to research vehicles released in the U.S. market. Wish we had different news for you there. We can tell you that most often, the deciding factor for retaining parking sensors is finding radio installation parts that can retain those sensors and allow their alerts to be heard

One of the major differences in the XAV-AX7000 versus the XAV-AX6000, is the 7000 has a high powered amp built in outputting 45 watts rms x 4 whereas the 6000 outputs 20 watts x 4. The 6000 doesn't require a USB connection for CarPlay and Android Auto but the 7000 does require a wired connected for CarPlay and Android Auto. The 7000 has two rear USBs but the 6000 has one USB that has a higher amperage for faster charger rated at 3A.

The screen does not move. This radio installs as if it is a double din model with a double din chassis so the screen fills a double din opening in the dash. The chassis only attaches to the top of the screen
I've already ordered this unit so it's not like the answers are going to change a thing & I'll find out for myself I suppose. 1) it looks like album artwork will only appear in CarPlay (Android Auto?). 2) Does the Hi-Res still come through over wireless Carplay/Auto? 3) any RCA camera will work on this unit?
Nice choice, Jimmy! The XAV-AX6000's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art from your music library in the background via Carplay and Android Auto. Via Android Auto, you can also see this info when using additional audio apps. With Carplay, display information is not available for the additional apps. The LDAC feature allows you to stream audio at a 96 kHz / 24-bit sampling bitrates via Bluetooth®.7. It is equipped with a composite video rearview camera input
@@crutchfield Thank you, that's what I guessed from your video, but just couldn't confirm anywhere else. Was a little worried CarPlay/Auto wouldn't allow for 24/96 yet, but the main player would. I'm relieved to know that this unit will do 24/96 anyway and anyhow. And yes, I'm looking forward to receiving & getting it installed. I feel like it's perfect for the 2012 Xterra with Rockford Fosgate. I would've enjoyed some fancy news/weather/sports widgets like the Pioneer NEX has. But a 14-20 second boot up time seems like it would get annoying. So don't care about widgets or 4k screens. I'm about the audio and make sure I don't bump into anything in reverse. So I do think this Sony is perfect for this vehicle. Won't look out of place, quick boot up, and excellent Sony sound. I'm gonna be able to get more out of this Rockford Fosgate system than I have before.

I hope, I am comparing with more or less similarly priced receivers with quality specs and capacitive screens. I have an Android phone supporting LDAC CODEC and will stream via Apple music in Android phone. My priorities are as follows in this order. I have an external DSP too. 1. 7 inch Sound Quality Receiver (Best Sound quality) 2. Wireless Android Auto - no hiccups when connected via blue tooth to receiver 3. LDAC via Bluetooth (via wireless android auto) 4. FLAC Audio files via USB 5. Quality Phone calls via Blue tooth 6. High quality FM radio 7. HDMI Port
We are not familiar with that Kenwood to know how it compares with the other two models. Are there steering wheel controls for the factory radio or a factory backup camera you want to maintain? You will lose your factory satellite radio tuner when you replace the factory radio, do you want to add a new tuner to the Sony?
The one question I have is, Is the XAV-AX6000 compatible with the 3rd gen Tacoma's 360° cameras?
There is no mention of removing it in the owner's manual and is likely permanently installed. The dimmer can be manually adjusted which may help.
I read on a forum recently that it can be removed and improved the sharpness a lot. Not sure if you could reinstall after removal though…

How do you jerk it?
I just bought this stereo can you advice what speaker would be best . Car is a 1968 firebird
We will be happy to recommend a speaker for your 19689 Firebird and got a question to make sure we recommend on that fits. Did it come from the factory with air conditioning?
Will the type c work for iPhones too?
HI Giovanni, are you asking about the USB-C input?
@crutchfield between these two which of these feature is more useful in sony xav ax8100 dso (dynamic stage organiser & extra bass) feature is more useful or sony xav ax 6000 time alignment (if i had sony components on front & coaxial at back with gs4 sony amp ) ...which feature is more useful
We see the amp you plan to use with the radios here so we only need to know the models of the speakers and for you to describe the sound you seek!
Can this be installed on a single-din space, leaving the display outside of the frame ?
The Sony XAV-AX6000 Digital Multimedia Receiver does fit a double DIN chassis. We do have other options though with the single DIN fit and floating screen. What is the year, make, and model of your vehicle?
1968 firebird
Does this headunit support 1080p reverse camera?
This Sony XAV-AX6000 radio's touchscreen monitor has a resolution of 800 RGB x 480 (1,152,000 pixels). A 720p backup camera would be an excellent match here, Paul!
What is the music sound quality with with wireless Apple CarPlay vs wired?
The Sony XAV-AX6000 does provide for excellent sound quality via the wireless option. In general, a wired connection can offer the best overall sound quality. There are options that support both. If you'd like help choosing, please let us know.
I own a 2012 Accord, thinking to replace stock radio, would you recomend a specific dashkit for this model? And a backup camera compatible, thanks.
Think I’m going to settle for this over the $1000 JVC screen. It looks so sleek even though the only thing it’s missing that I would want is HD radio😢
It's sleek for sure and an overall excellent radio. Keep us posted.
I ended up getting it and I’ve had it for two weeks now. But my only complaint is google maps doesn’t work to good. It lags and can’t keep a steady connection which is very frustrating. I even updated it the latest firmware and still. So I might return it & end up getting a Pioneer instead
Sorry to hear that. If you got the radio here, be sure to call our Tech Support to troubleshoot this issue as well.
Dose it has HD quality videos when playing youtube ?
This radio does not have an HD screen and will only get the standard definition video from the smartphone being mirrored to it.
Can I use existing cables from the SONY AX 5000 to plug this jon in?
The wiring for these two units does differ. You will need to use the Sony XAV-AX6000 specific wiring.
@@crutchfield Am I able to use existing PAC RP4-CH11 device with the AX6000? Currently have the AX5600 model.
Yes, you can use that PAC wiring interface with the AX6000.
Can you have two phones synced to the device ? Ie my wife’s or mine?
The Sony XAV-AX6000 can be paired with multiple devices (up to 10), but it can only be connected to a single device at a time for wireless music playback and hands-free calling.
Question: I have Mercedes Benz 2005 model, can this Radio fit into it?
Thanks
Which specific Mercedes model do you have?
I see this has idatalink, but are there 2 camera ports? I drive a 2018 honda hrv exl and would like to retain my lanewatch feature.
This Sony receiver does not have a second camera input. It would not retain the lanewatch ability. We do offer receivers that are compatible with the iDatlink MRR radio installation modules and have a second camera input. Those radios can be found using this link:
www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc227/g_473950/Digital-Multimedia-Video-Receivers.html?tp=78184&fa=1#&nvpair=AG_Inputs|FFCamera_(Second)&nvpair=AG_General_Features|FFiDatalink_Port
What if I used a switcher to allow for two camera input connections?
You could add a switch to have the option for more than one camera. To maintain your Side View / Lane Watch camera as they work now, your best bet is to move to an iDatalink compatible radio with a dedicated second camera input.
Any spectrum analyser widget on these
No.
Would this work well in a 2003 Crown Victoria LX?
I asked someone over the phone at Best Buy and they said something about needing “Premium Sound” for some of the CarPlay radios but I don’t know anything about that.
This receiver can be installed into a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria and work with any audio system in the car. Our vehicle fit guide can help ensure you are getting the proper parts for installation and you can access that fit guide using this link:

@@crutchfield Thank you, I will take a look.
You're welcome, Sean. If you need anything further, please let us know.
does it work with parking sensors?
Are you referring to factory installed parking sensors? What is the year, make, and model of your vehicle?
@@crutchfield yes, exactly. It's a 2011 Škoda Fabia, which should be similar to a VW Polo from 2011
We have not been able to research either of those vehicles. We are only able to research vehicles released in the U.S. market. Wish we had different news for you there. We can tell you that most often, the deciding factor for retaining parking sensors is finding radio installation parts that can retain those sensors and allow their alerts to be heard
does it have a video out?
Unfortunately, it does not have a video output.
Does this work with steering controls or we have to anything different thing to link them.
Look up "iDatalink Maestro RR2", you will see that this and other head units are "maestro compatible".
The radio is compatible with many steering wheel control interfaces. What is the year, make, and model of your vehicle?

Can this radio fit in to FORD FIGO 2016 MODEL????
Unfortunately, that's not a Ford model that we have any research/sizing information available on. I wish I had better news for you there. But that Sony receiver is designed to fit in standard double-DIN size applications.
@@crutchfield hi sir I installed it in my Ford Figo... But steering control is not working and retailer is saying that you have to buy Canvas separately for that.... Is that true? Kindly help.
Typically, special interfaces need to be installed with the new radio when trying to make steering wheel radio controls work with the new radio.
CAN IT FIT A 2019 TUNDRA?
Is your 2019 Toyota Tundra the Crewmax or Double cab? Does it feature JBL audio or a center channel speaker? The Sony XAV-AX6000 radio is a physical fit, and we have installation packages for all trims available.

Which is better xav 8100 or xav 6000.
That's a good question! And one that partly depends on the vehicle the radio will be installed into. What is the year, make, and model of the vehicle? Also, what abilities are you hoping to have in the new radio?
@CRUTCHFIELD I want performance system. I have external dsp also. Single din or touch screen infotainment both will do for me. I just want powerful performance and no gimmicks
Does Sony xav ax 6000 have WebLink feature ❓ can we watch UA-cam ❓

@@crutchfield can we play Amazon fire stick in xav ax 6000 ❓
Yes; but you cannot use a standard full-size HDMI cable. A micro-HDMI to HDMI cable is required to connect to the Sony. And you will need WiFi to stream Fire TV.

Anyone know the difference between xav-ax6000 vs xav-ax7000.
Carplay and youtube?
The Sony XAV-AX6000 does support wireless Carplay. Do you want to view video via UA-cam? If so, from what source?
@@crutchfield
Thanks for the reply. From the iPhone 11 pro through carplay, but if it's not possible, could you try via usb or with adapters could you think of the hdmi input? (Unfortunately here in Italy it is still not possible to buy)
It would be possible to connect for video sources using the rear micro-HDMI input instead. You'll find the adaptors needed here: www.crutchfield.com/I-rXYEc888/cart/EmailCart.aspx?emKey=3164631
Can you upload a wallpaper
Yes, you can use the Wallpaper Select function to add a photo from a MSC (Mass Storage Class) type USB device.
Are the 5 volt pre-outs adjustable? My amplifier takes 2.8 volts. Can I adjust it down?
They are not.
Can you move the screen? I would prefer it at the top…
The screen does not move. This radio installs as if it is a double din model with a double din chassis so the screen fills a double din opening in the dash. The chassis only attaches to the top of the screen
He said it's IN dash a few seconds into the video lol
You're welcome! Let us know how you like it and if you need anything else.

www.youtube.com/@crutchfield, If I have to choose one among Kenwood DMX8521S(9021S) vs Sony XAV AX6000 vs Alpine ILX 507, please advise. I hope, I am comparing with more or less similarly priced receivers with quality specs and capacitive screens.
I have an Android phone supporting LDAC CODEC and will stream via Apple music in Android phone.
My priorities are as follows in this order. I have an external DSP too.
1. 7 inch Sound Quality Receiver (Best Sound quality)
2. Wireless Android Auto - no hiccups when connected via blue tooth to receiver
3. LDAC via Bluetooth (via wireless android auto)
4. FLAC Audio files via USB
5. Quality Phone calls via Blue tooth
6. High quality FM radio
7. HDMI Port
We are not familiar with that Kenwood to know how it compares with the other two models. We do know the other two and can say that when focusing on the best sound quality the Sony takes win playing higher resolution FLAC Files and more. Here is a link to our web page for the Sony XAV-AX6000:
