Well done Mathews Chippy - you deserve a medal as the cheapest fish and chips in Britain. £3.00 is brilliant- They are robbing us blind here in Wallsend near Newcastle upon Tyne where they charge £12.00 for the same size fish and chips.
Community is everything, people looking out for each other, volunteers up and down the country keeping our libraries open, running charity shops, high street planters filled .. after school activities. ... the list goes on. We cannot rely on local councils.. they waste money. Please keep flying the flag for positivity, there is a lot of good out there. As always a great video!
Oh and by the way, I’m pretty sure Grimsby is actually known as Great Grimsby!! I don’t know why but I’m pretty sure it’s on the town sign as you enter the town. Cheers 😊😊
MY GOD! £3! ? Another excellent video X Well said James x Grimsby looks great! Love the museum x Canny pub and fish and chips for £3= Bloody fantastic X
You always come across as a kind genuine person with a dry sense of humour, so enjoy watching your videos , love hiw you and Helen bounce of one another .
I really appreciated your review of Grimsby. My partner is a cod head so I spend a lot of time there. Yes it has it's challenges. What was once a thriving and wealthy fishing port has been reduced to destitution, since the decimation of the fishing industry and all the subsidiary businesses that supported it with no jobs to replace them. The work was hard but it was there, once proud hard working men were thrown on the scrap heap. Now Grimsby has suffered years of generational unemployment, a part of tbe forgotten and neglected 'North' . Despite the hardship the people look out for each other and there is a thriving and creative community.
James friends of mine were telling me how much they enjoyed a channel on you tube they described the couple whose channel it was I knew it was your channel straight away it’s great how we all enjoy it keep up the good work 👍
You should have come to Waltham we’re we live and our surrounding villages and Waltham windmill is nice to see and look around their shops you would have both liked it liked that next time I hope 😊
Hi James, thank you for showing off my home town of Grimsby, wish I'd been there to show you around a bit. The Heritage Museum table that was decided into squares was to stop your plate falling off the table in high seas, which is where the saying '3 square meals a day's comes from Love the channel
As I've said previously on forums, the local councils need to regenerate the town/city centres by using the shop accommodation above the shops and make them into apartments. Everywhere abroad has thousands of apartments above local shops which automatically regenerates the footfall and encourages shops to open
Found your videos when you were converting your van. I was considering it myself at the time and have been full-time for a few months now, your channel definitely spurred me on. How do you deal with/ reply to the negative stereotype of van life? Seems most of my work colleagues/ family/ friends consider me as homeless now 😂
Been living in America for over 32yrs,haven’t been back for over 16 yrs…..these two are an absolute joy to watch….…….lived in Virginia Waters as a young kid……and in my twenties lived in Scarborough ….thankyou both for giving me great memories………plz keep them coming
Excellent video James, Grimsby has some fine old buildings and statues evidently. The minster had a very serene atmosphere and was beautiful. The footbridge going to the docks could do with a lick of paint to brighten it up. Nice video, and im looking forward to the big projects you mentioned.
Well there’s me saying fish and chips cost an 💪 and a 🦵🏽 and you’ve made a video of a chippy in Grimsby where you can buy Haddock (yummy) and chips for £3! 😮 That’s amazing. Good on Grimsby.
Love a bit of "By The Curb". James, it would be really interesting if you can run us through your filming kit as I see that the camera follows you when you're getting peas down your shirt 😀. Keep these positive city vlogs going 👏
Eh up! When you said you've left ya skin, I thought you were having an out of body experience. Brilliant channel and love going on all your journey's with Helliebobs. 👍
I really enjoy your videos when you talk about the towns and show museums, buildings and talk history - that's where you shine. I'd like to see you go down to the Isles of Scilly - one of the many places I dream of seeing. From Ontario, Canada.
The big painting of the man in the mayor robe in the town hall you go in is also in a hotel in Folkestone I used to work at called the grand,I’m sure he was they mayor of Folkestone
like most towns theres good and bad bits, the empty shops in these places are usually down to 2 factors...internet shopping and councils mismanagement..think the way forward for high streets etc is independent shops , a lot of the old dept stores have gone now, good luck on getting to the fifty
Hiya James & Helen I stumbled across your videos a week ago. I am now hooked. I absolutely love your videos so interesting. Genuine and funny. You are both so great as a couple. You are made for one another. I have spent the last week happily catching up on all your videos. Thanks for all your hard work. I am now a very happy subscriber. I am a Manchester lass born & bred. I don’t live there now. I live in north wales. I enjoyed your Llandudno video, I go there a lot. I look forward to all your future videos. Take care. Love to you both.
Try Redcar! 3000 jobs gone at the steel works. Now to Grimsby, Fishing fleet virtually gone so that takes other jobs away with it, not as much money in the town, shops shut etc. It is a domino effect and it's sad.
Fair play to you James, you showed some really lovely buildings and the Minster. There is just something so special about a church. The fish n chips looked good. Nice to see a queue outside, waiting for them to open. Took me back to when I was little and we had to queue for the chip shop as it was so popular.
A up James. Ive thought of an idea for some Merch. Print a very realistic mushy pea to shirts and hoodies, could be your LOGO.. id buy one, would be funny as your strolling about 😂
Hi James, after seeing you at the Whitby museum, we think you should go to the Black Country Living Museum. Go see it, I don't want to give too much away, but it's an entire town set back in the day complete with a coal pit.
Keep them coming James. Loved your vlogs in Benidorm and Liverpool. How about trying Nottingham, also known as " Studentville ". My home town but now I'm an exile in Greece. ❤️🇬🇷
Hi James Great video. It's so sad to see the high street like this. Once it's gone, it won't ever come back. Take me back to the 90s, even though I was only 8yrs old by the end of them. The little I remember warms my heart.
Great vid.👍 I cycled thru last year on my way down the coast. The poverty is palpable, even down near the football ground in Cleethorpes, like a lot of places it's reason for being has gone. I found the people ace, and looking around, and reading about the Kasbah (hopefully) regeneration, it has potential.... I reality hope it happens.
If everyone that travels through can give and extra 3pounds to the fish and ship shop to feed a poor person that can’t afford it .. that would be really good. Just a a thought 😊 Call it the Friday Special!
Hi James. I was lucky enough to stumble upon one of your videos about a year ago. So glad I did. Your content is so genuine, interesting and funny. Glad you are putting a positive spin on every place you visit. Got my wife watching your channel now too. Keep it up. Cheers mate, Will, in Torquay.
Hope you enjoyed your Grimsby visit online here n yes credit to mathews while you was in town should ov popped in tivoli tavern nice cheap pint in town 🙂
What a great shop selling a cheap tea for local people fantastic. Actually Grimsby looked a clean area and as you say there’s no money being invested in these places . Glad you went and showed us James . Keep up the good work you tell us how it really is. Xx
Never been to Grimsby but to be honest it didn't look too bad. 👍 And those fish & ships, Wow what a bargain £3.00.😮 That is amazing. Like you said a family of 4 could all get fish & chips for £12.. That is fantastic in this day & age. A big thumbs up to them. 👍 Here in Lancaster there's an award winning chippy on my street, we usually only get 2 fish & 1 large chips to share and that's over £12. If I went to Grimsby I'd defo pop in there. Thanks James. 😁😉
Well done James great video loving the Positive vibes and I’m sick of people putting places down 😊😊 £3 fish & chips wow that’s amazing 😊😊 Just was going to ask what was that beautiful building you went into at first where you couldn’t go up stairs. What was the building’s initial purpose ? No peas on your shirt 👔 good man Phil & Fay
£3 for fish& chips unbelievable jeff how do they do it.well done grimsby. I've been to various chippys in run down areas I've heard locals ask for special bag of chips only to be amazed they got a massive amount to feed an army for about £2.50.now thats what i call value for your money.
I’m from Cleethorpes you can’t get fish chips and mushy peas for less than £10 Average bag of chips is £3 plus. Area where that chips shop is rough but no other chippy is anywhere near that cheap around there. It’s good of the owners to sell them at that price.
Dont know why but i expected helen to be standing at the bar in the museum trying to get an ale 😂. Not easy to get people to be positive these days and have more fun most want to moan and find problems with everything . Keep that upbeat attitude and positivity we all need , thats why everyone loves helen so much. Cheers mate enjoyed the vlog .
A great video as per and your sentiments about you tube often focusing on the negatives in some of our towns. So easy to do that is't it ? You could have made a similar video on a place i live at, you actually drove past it by a mile or so the other week as you visited Seaham. I have still got the hump that i did not bump into you :) Comng back to Grimsby, there did appear to be some re generation going on, your comments about council leaders on the wages that they are on is a common and justified theme in my view. Some great public art you showcased . Thanks a lot for showcasing Grimsby. Best wishes to you and executive producer, Mike in County Durham
That fisherman sitting with a beer in the museum would have been funny if Helen had been pictured oposite him with a drink would have made a great photo lol😂
Can't wait to hear about your next big trip sponsored by ViPnutsViPnuts,🥳. What a deal that was for the fish & chips, you don't see that around here. Thanks for the tour of Grimsby, nice museum, kids would love it. Enjoy your weekend!
Some problems are helped by visiting, shopping and sightseeing an area using a different attitude. It won't fix these towns, but it can help. Loved the Fishing Museum. ❤🇦🇺
Hi James, I’ve been watching you for quite a while, I love your honesty very genuine and Helen is a blast. I’ve subscribed and bought £35 with of peanuts 😂 I love peanuts in fact I love all nuts 😅 x Have a great week and he’s hoping you hit the 50 plus number before the end of the month x
It's funny you saying about the shopping centre being unusually quiet, my partner and i went to a nice garden centre yesterday abd for a Saturday in spring it was so quiet, we tyen called by a big home bargains and thay was quiet, there used to be massive queues for the tills on a Saturday! We popped in a chain pub late afternoon for a drink and hardly anyone in! It really hit home how the government has really crippled everyone financially with the cost of living and it's going to impact these towns economies even more.
Oh, great video James, that museum is wonderful! Grimsby is just somewhere I've never thought of visiting before but I'll give it a whirl thanks to you , my granddad's mam Elizabeth Harrison was from Brigg/Appleby in Lincolnshire, I definitely need a visit to the area and see it all ❤🎉
Great video James, GY is not the place it was in the 60,s and 70,s due to the decline of the fishing industry and like many other towns is struggling to survive but I think you’re video was a good honest one.
Come to Bradford James. Do a preview on the City of Culture 2025. Shed some light on the diversity and you could do Curry V Fish and Chips vlog as we do have the best of both.
They right in the fish import centre of the north east so it makes sense but they must be doing a deal hoping for extra purchases and loyalty , in hull my local chippy is quailty and only 8.50 for large cod and chips which is amazing compared to most hull chippies
Nice start to the positive campaign James. Trouble is the camera still pick's up the boarded up shops, empty market stalls and lack of shoppers. But hat's off to you, positives were still found. Could not believe the £3 fish & chips, it's £3.30 for a portion of chips at our chippy. Good luck with positive quest, it is needed.
Loved this video. I lived in Grimsby back in the early sixties. My Dad was born there and my ancestors were Grimsby fisherman. I was at the Fisherman's Heritage Centre in 2019, on a trip down memory lane, with my two brothers and my mother. We thought the museum was wonderful. What a great job they have done. I have a wonderful photo of one of my brothers in front of the fish and chip lady in the museum. We have lived in Canada since 1966. I was born in Doncaster. The first video I watched of yours, was the one where you walked around Doncaster. In fact I might have come across it because I had watched another video about places boarded up in Doncaster and your channel popped up in that YT algorithm. Would rather watch you than ones about boarded up places.
Hi James, thoroughly enjoy your trips and travels, great vlogs!! I have watched many of your reviews on fish and chips from around the country, and have noticed that when you are tasting them in your van you use the “cutlery “ supplied by the establishment where you bought the food from. Can I suggest that, when eating in your van, you might consider using your own cutlery for the review? I really think that the whole eating experience would be enhanced by eating with metal cutlery rather than a little wooden fork or plastic one (which I’m pretty sure are no longer to be used!). You disagree and see the utensils provided by the various establishments as part of their signature, but thought I would highlight this as a thought for your future reviews. What do you think? Keep going with the great vlogs!!! Cheers
EY-UP James, you are looking well. My brother lives in Grimsby (a posh bit 🤣) and I have visited him a few times. It isn’t that “grim” and I think your video shows that. It’s true that there’s a lot of unemployment, the decimation of the fishing industry has a lot to do with it. The heritage site was good to show people and £3 for fish and chips was amazing. I hope you enjoy your strange named beer and fancy flavoured nuts. Please don’t go chasing “poverty porn” you are at your best showing us more spectacular towns and villages. Best wishes and safe travels MICK 🤝👍
Well done Mathews Chippy - you deserve a medal as the cheapest fish and chips in Britain. £3.00 is brilliant- They are robbing us blind here in Wallsend near Newcastle upon Tyne where they charge £12.00 for the same size fish and chips.
Shows how much rest are robbing us
Re release of a superb production, well worth viewing again or for the first time, enjoy, get it out of here folks. Happy days.

Its nice to see that being positive about things, people are so negative about things these days. Keep on with the great content.
Haven’t been here in a while. Insane channel growth. Well done mate. Good to see you doing well.
Thank you 😊❤️
I bloody LOVE that museum - you have inspired me to go to not-so-grim Grimsby
I like your positive outlook, show the good sides of towns, people etc. And eat what the hell you like. YOLO
Me and my mum watch you when we chill at night your doing fab by the curb is real we love real people
Thank you so much 😊❤️
That chippie was a service to the community. £3 I imagine is a game changer. Cheaper than turning on the gas cooker.
A couple of things I enjoyed about Grimsby was Wetherspoons being outside the railway station and then a game of bingo at the Buzz club after.
I really appreciated your review of Grimsby. My partner is a cod head so I spend a lot of time there. Yes it has it's challenges. How do you deal with/ reply to the negative stereotype of van life? Seems most of my work colleagues/ family/ friends consider me as homeless now 😂
I genuinely don't care anymore what people think. The lifestyle is great and I think so many people are jealous of the freedom
Same here James 👍I haven't told my work colleagues though my family are not best pleased, they think I've lost the plot.
Fish and chips looked grand to me, I was munching on Spam and Toast at the time though. Cheers as always for sharing.
Been living in America for over 32yrs,haven’t been back for over 16 yrs…..these two are an absolute joy to watch….…….lived in Virginia Waters as a young kid……and in my twenties lived in Scarborough ….thankyou both for giving me great memories………plz keep them coming

There is a street in Arbroath,Angus ,Scotland, called East Grimsby,a throwback to when the fisherfolk moved around for the Herring catch I think.
I look forward to all your future videos. Take care. Love to you both.
Thank you Lindsay 😊
The museum looked good , I like seeing you critique the fish & chips. ( makes me hungry) 😊
Try Redcar! 3000 jobs gone at the steel works. Now to Grimsby, Fishing fleet virtually gone so that takes other jobs away with it, not as much money in the town, shops shut etc. It is a domino effect and it's sad.

I've been to the top of the dock tower. the metal staircase inside is scary to say the least 😊
Another nice vlog James. I’m from immingham and it’s good to see you in Grimsby. Keep em coming 👍
A up James. Ive thought of an idea for some Merch. Print a very realistic mushy pea to shirts and hoodies, could be your LOGO.. id buy one, would be funny as your strolling about 😂
At that price you can have two portions 😊 great video, thanks.x
Hi James, after seeing you at the Whitby museum, we think you should go to the Black Country Living Museum. Go see it, I don't want to give too much away, but it's an entire town set back in the day complete with a coal pit.
We went yesterday and went to the Peabung and The Chippy. We also went to Docks beers, cos you have to don’t you!
Keep them coming James. Loved your vlogs in Benidorm and Liverpool. How about trying Nottingham, also known as " Studentville ". My home town but now I'm an exile in Greece. ❤️🇬🇷

For £3 it's not a small portion overall, it's amazing they make any money with energy costs. Fair play to them

Thanks Mike
Excellent vlog as ever. £3! No wonder they were waiting for it to open. How do they survive at that price? Glad they do though. 😊

£3!!!! lucky if you can find them for under a tenner! 👍
Brilliant vlog. We work closely with Docks beers where I work. That little tap room gets bouncing
Yep I can imagine. It's a nice place
For that price it’s excellent value 👍
Great video James, GY is not the place it was in the 60,s and 70,s due to the decline of the fishing industry and like many other towns is struggling to survive but I think you’re video was a good honest one.

I ‘d go for those f & c! Fresh Grimsby Haddock! Brilliant
Im still subscribed, the town looked ok, pale ale looked nice.
superb price for fish n chips, good video James.
Grimsby looks OK to me .& that chippy spot on ❤
Loved this video.
Thank you, I'm just doing up beat videos from now on 😊
Come to Swansea I will take you to boss brewery and a pub called terminus where barrels are on show behind bar
I can’t believe it’s that cheep ! 😮 wow
Thanks again Jim
Aup James, have a look around Gainsborough should make a good vlog, keep up the great work 🍺
We went a few weeks back. Made a vlog too.
Cheers
Thank you, if I remember I'll use my own cutlery next time I'm eating fish and chips in the van 😊
£3!! Brilliant! beans cost about that per tin !
James the fishing museum includes a guided tour on the fishing boat outside ? Enjoyed the video 👍 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you Mick
