On this night politics interrupted the show. That night the Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt were announced and with no cable news outlets all three networks covered the news. Since this was a live show they stopped and picked up where they left off when they returned to regular programming
I met Henry Winkler once..he is such a kind and loving person...he was ssooooo nice omg...he has this beautiful energy around him...what a wonderful man❤️
I am not sure of that. She should have, but I just looked it up and Nancy Marchand won for Lou Grant, and she was up against someone from Holocaust, Linda Kelsey from Lou Grant, and Kristy McNichol and Meredith Baxter from Family. (not sure why they would nominate 2 people from 2 shows in the same category.)
Had Melissa won the Emmy the cast would have hated her even more. Melissa Gilbert and Allison Arngrim would have demanded it. LOL!!!! When Mary woke up blind and Caroline sat there frozen was amazingly written and acted. Unfortunately, after that there wasn’t much for her to do.
Sada Thompson was an outstanding actress, primarily in the theater. She was amazing in “Family,” a show pretty much forgotten now but groundbreaking in its time, with incredible acting. She very much deserved to win. Melissa Sue Anderson did some good work on Little House, especially during the seasons when she went blind, but she wasn’t anything near the accomplished actress Sada Thompson was. Plus, the role of Mary was, for most of the series, a supporting role, not a lead. Which may have played into why she lost. If the Little House producers put her into lead actress contention, it was a miscalculation on their part.
@@Historian212 Mary Ingalls ? A supporting role in seasons 2 and even more seasons 3 and 4 of "Little House" ? We must not have seen the same episodes...
Sada did deserve this award. She did a great job on the very underrated “Family” TV show. Loved all of these shows as a kid. I can appreciate these clips ❤️
I LOVE Sada Thompson, LOVE Kate Jackson...I am sure the other actresses were amazing. I feel, though, Nobody could beat Melissa Sue Anderson when she portrayed Mary Ingalls going blind. It was just the best of the best I've seen. Having said that, as I said, Sada Thompson is winner always!!
The crazy thing is to this day I have no idea what the winner's show is since it is no longer in syndication, but everyone knows who Mary is and she should have won.
Kate Jackson should have been the winner! She's an excellent, charismatic actress. Shame it didn't happen. Watch "Angel in Love" then you know what I mean.
Interesting how they don't smile whilst waiting...nowadays the actors are all grins as they try to convey nonchalance. You can see how these actors want it more clearly.
I remember when safa Thompson won the emmy. It was a WTF moment. Melissa Sue Anderson was amazing. There was nothing outstanding about sada's performance that year, while Mary went blind. This may be the year I started to believe that the Emmys weren't really all that big a deal.
Love Melissa’s movies but I also really loved ABC’s Family!! Also like Kate Jackson!! But it would have been great to see Melissa Sue Anderson win the Emmy she was great at playing Mary on Little House♥️👌😊💯
Im quite surprised Melissa Sue Anderson got a lead actress nom for LHONP...She really was a supporting player to Melissa Gilbert's character I always thought......anyone else got a comment about this? I read somewhere that Michael Landon basically wrote her part out of the show at some point and that she was quite pissed off about it?
+Pascoe Braun Michael Landon wanted her to be nominated for best supporting actress so she would have a higher chance of winning according to Melissa Sue. Also, according to her she said she chose to leave because here character had been played out enough and she was bored with it. Michael tried all he could with her character but after a while he and his crew were running out of ideas. This is all from the mouth of Melissa Sue. Hope that helped.
Melissa Sue's acting in the 2-part episode "I'll be waving as you drive away" is in the top 100 best TV Episodes ever by TV Guide. She took special acting classes to appear blind.
I guess in the current storyline where Mary went blind it sort of catapulted her to that category. Had Karen Grassle tried lead that year (she might have) I’m guessing she might have been in the lead category and Melissa would have gone to the supporting category. All in theory of course 40 years later. LOL!!!!
I bet Sada Thompson was in the bathroom when the nominees were being introduced, and it took her a long time to get up to the stage too. And Melissa was so pretty in the audience, she glowed. I hope she won an award eventually.
I’ve never even heard of the winner or her show. Definitely would’ve picked MSA or Michael Learned. Side note. Henry Winkler is so different from the Fonz. He actually deserved the win. That’s some mastery there.
Isn't it funny how everyone here (me included) was wishing MSA won? It seems as if most of the other nominees are forgotten names. "Little House" was too good of a show. It's still legit even TODAY! Never heard of the show "Family". Sada Thompson. Seriously, who's that?
He doesn’t have a British accent. Maybe it sounds that way today because most people can’t seem to speak and enunciate properly and have butchered the English language.
I don't care how great of an actress she is, Melissa Sue Anderson was a child and definitely deserved that award for being so young and so talented. That old lady had years to work on her craft. They just gave it to her because she was old. And does anybody remember her? Nope. But you can bet your bottom dollar that they remember The haunting episode of Mary going blind on Little House on the prairie.
I still say you need to recount the votes. There is no way she was better than Melissa Sue. Melissa Sue Anderson was cheated. She should have won. Sada's role wss never emmy worthy.
Melissa Sue Anderson played Mary so well she should have won!
In an interview, Melissa Sue Anderson said, being nominated was just as good as winning! Very nice lady, and a fine actress!
Back when we had a great selection of shows to watch. Thanks for all the memories.
As far as I know Melissa Sue Anderson was the only actress of Little House On The Prairie 2 b nominated 4 an Emmy 🏆
Oh Sada was great. Absolutely great! I miss these days! All these actresses were awesome!
I was shocked Melissa Sue Anderson did not win!! She was the best and soooo beautiful
I had such a huge crush on her! :)
So eloquently stated. Absolutely the right choice!
Such natural beautiful ladies 💕
Such a great lady.👍⭐️
Back when they kept these awards non political. So much fun to watch.

MELISSA deserves it

Very nice is the consensus & humble. We love humble people.
Love Charlies Angel Kate Jackson 👍🤎😍
Sada Thompson may have gotten the Emmy, but 43+ years later I'd wager more people remember Melissa Sue Anderson.
Sada strong actress. Not Melissa Sue
Not true
@@kellymcquay2626 It's not "true" that I would wager more people remember Melissa Sue Anderson?
Not at all! Sada was Grande
Sada really deserved this night. We still absolutely adore her and the Family tv show cast.
At least Melissa Sue Anderson won the Emmy the following year for the After school special, Which Mother Is Mine.
Yes, it was considered the consolation prize for her work
really wish MSA had won. her performance in the episode when mary goes blind was fantastic!
Melissa should have won !!
I agree! She was amazing!!!!
Sada most defiantly deserved the win loved family and never tire of it

Melissa Sue Anderson should have been nominated for Best Supporting Actress - she would've won that.
deb310red YES, she should have!!

Interesting fact, a few years later, Sada Thompson played Melissa Sue Anderson's mom on an episode of THE LOVE BOAT.
Melissa Sue Anderson did some phenominal acting on Little house...she should have won
Yeah, Sada Thompson didn't do anything on Family that she didn't do right there on stage. Talk melodramatically. Try going blind.

Should be titled "Sada Thompson wins emmy: MSA makes 1 second cameo.

3 seconds actually

Either Melissa Sue or Kate... would have made excellent award winners
Melissa Sue Anderson is a DOLL
Not to Alison Arngrim, she isn't.
Lol she’s a mean person just like her character Mary lol
looks like heather locklear
Still beautiful to this day, call it *"A LIFE WELL LIVED"* . Melissa Sue Anderson, irregardless is a *"CLASS ACT"* .
I loved Sada. She was Americas mom!
The crazy thing is to this day I have no idea what the winner's show is since it is no longer in syndication, but everyone knows who Mary is and she should have won.
Yep, I was thinking the same thing. I never did watch one episode of that Family show either, but I watched Little House every week back then.
Youre right. Time has proven that.
Kate Jackson should have been the winner! She's an excellent, charismatic actress. Shame it didn't happen. Watch "Angel in Love" then you know what I mean.
Huh? What did this video have to do with Melissa Sue Anderson anymore than it had to do with Kate Jackson or Michael Learned?
Test of time says, mellissa sue is the winner.
