Melissa Gilbert charmed her way in our hearts in LHOTP...and she continues to do til this day in the re-runs even though she in no longer active in acting.
"Normie" is actually actor Jimmy Baio, cousin of Scott. A fun fact is that Ellen Travolta who plays his mother in this episode also played Scott's mom in both Happy Days and Charles in Charge! Crazy eh?!
The scene when Rocky cries on her bed gets me all the time.I love how her mother comforts her and tells her how much she LOVES HER."We're very proud of you Rocky"if only my mother told me that when i was a teenager and hugged me..i can tell her some private things but now that i am an adult not back then.
Yes, became gp last year, grand child stole my entire heart. But I have several names he can call me I don’t like the word grandma but glamama& meme ma😂.
@Walter Schivo every actor and actress from little house on the prairie guest appeared on Love Boat, every single one of them. all the Ingals(including Albert) the Doc, the Mayor, all the Olesons. the preacher, Adam, James Almonzo, Isaiah etc etc. just not all at the same time ;)
Glad I came across this. I remember watching this episode when it aired. I had a crush on Jimmy Baio while all my friends loved Scott Baio. I remember seeing him the first time on the sitcom "Soap".
@@maryrosehight4379 maybe this was made after she kissed Manly, or that the actor playing Manly was 10 years older than Melissa and Baio was about the same age
I remember this episode! LOVE Melisaa and LOVE Jimmy Baio. He was on my all-time favorite show Soap. I loved him SO MUCH MORE than Scott Baio! Thanks for the upload!!
I agree. Jimmy Baio was much better than Scott and I loved Soap (even though it was a kind of forbidden show that I was barely allowed to watch as kid-- kind of revolutionary at the time).
I wonder how she found the time to be other shows at the time she was on little house on the prairie . And besides love boat she was on the movie playing a blind and deaf girl. She played with Patty Duke . She did really good in that show and on live boat . And she probably played on other shows and commercials I guess . And she does a very good job of acting . And she still is a good actor even today.
What makes you a boy or girl has nothing to do with what you wear or what you like to do. Notice how she acts like a stereotypical boy and wants to be called Rocky. If this happened today, she would be encouraged to transition into a male instead of giving her time to decide what she wants to do. Melissa's character on Little House On The Prairie was definitely a girl.. but not afraid to get dirty or punch someone out when they deserved it. "Hard working folks only smell bad to people who have nothing better than stick their noses in the air! Well, whenever you stick your nose in the air with me, Nellie Oleson, it's going to get punched! (Laura to Nellie in, 2.01 The Richest Man in Walnut Grove)"
My point was I feel like transgenders seeing this are going to feel offended and think she should have be encouraged to transition into a male. They will probably feel this episode needs to never be on the air. I feel we have to be very careful because we don't want to push cis tomboys to transition or transgenders to conform to society's interpretation of gender either. In the past, tomboys were told "You need to start acting like a girl!" I feel today's tomboys are going to get constantly asked "Do you want to be a boy?"
@@iAmMadeOfSoup you're completely missing my point. If this was on television today, the girl would have been transitioned into a boy. They wouldn't have said oh you just like dressing like a boy. Don't believe me? Just look at all the stories of parents who are forcing their children to transition because they like something that is seen as being for the opposite gender. Look at the story of James on the Save James Facebook page. Simply because he showed interest in something feminine at one point, his mother is trying to force him to be a girl. He doesn't want to be a girl.
This is sooooo dated. To see the kids playing they are Starsky and Hutch and discussing the Fonz!! I loved it but kids today would not understand it!!!
So true. If you mention any of the actors or actresses names or their their characters names and the shows that they where in your kid is going to ask you Laura Ingalls who? Or if you mention the Fonz on Happy Days they are going to look at you totally clueless like mom who is the Fonz? And you set them in front of the tv when Happy Days is on or even Little House and you tell to watch these shows don’t be surprised if they ask you where’s the remote? Me and my husband don’t have any kids, but I’ve baby sitted a lot of them that to know that they would rather watch The Teenage Mutanted Ninja Turtles or something else that more exciting.
Of course kids wouldn’t understand it wasn’t part of their time. And talking about the fonz back then it was not dated at the time. This is a silly statement. 🤷♀️
I used to Love the Love boat , but then, also watch little house back then too! Melissa such a great actress..by the way , the boy mothers, John Travolta older sister..
Jimmy Baio's character shot down Melissa Gilbert's character in the scene where he was demonstrating the card trick and she walked in wearing the dress, when his character's mom played by Ellen Travolta asked him to apologize because of what he said to her he just didn't say anything. lol! Just totally ignored her like if she was a bug to him which he would have stepped on as he was walking away.
How come all the other characters looked their age, but Laura was soooo young. I thought they played in this one episode (that's what people said) I've never seen the show before. Caroline was older, Mary was older, Nelie was older, but Laura was so young
Why does this kid talk like he is from Brooklyn if he is from El Paso, TX? This was a thing in the 70's-80's and it led me to believe that even really tiny towns in America had ethnically diverse groups. It was a lie.
Did they use a laughing machine? Luckily, it wasn’t in sync. Melissa Gilbert 14 years old in this episode, a little kid still. The Little House 2 years later she got married and became a teacher. :D
She is really a wonderful actress

She has a really sweet nature to her. She's soooo likeable!
I couldn't agree more.
when laura is wearing modern clothes and you dont know what life is anymore
When you live in 1880 and this Laura Ingalls coming to walnut crove
Stoppppp. I am only seeing Laura and I want it to STOP

Did not know this. Same voice.
He was so cute. I really enjoyed him in Soap.
I was wondering why the little boy kept reminding me of Scott Baio! Lol!
Great info 👍
Melissa was so different on here then LHOTP love this show to
Get right back to walnut grove Laura
Rebecca Mae Spears nakakalungkot lang, ngayon ko lang nakita at napanuod si laura ingalls.

It's weird hearing her say "mom" And not "ma"😂😂
I was just thinking the same thing!
Omg yeah
Yeah
Hahaha I had thought the same exact thing! 😂😂😂
And "Rocky, but not" halfpint"😂
A whole episode of love boat in 13 minutes 👍

Such a shame that love and affection are the ingredient most kids miss out on. If only there was more love.
She so good at being sad I love that
Don't fall off that skateboard Laura, or we will have to call Dr. Baker!!
Who?
sooooooooooo funny :-)
She was Laura on Little house on the prairie, the dr. was Dr. Baker.
ahahahaha
lololol
I love watching little house on the prairie
I think it is best after watching this that Laura needs to get back to Walnut Grove.
It was blasted in the last episode of the serie :(
I agree!

The show Little House on the Prairie takes place back in the 1800's. Back then women didn't wear pants.
Like a boy 🙂

She looks great in modern clothes! So pretty.
Melissa Gilbert was great in this 1978 Love Boat episode!
Beautiful red hair! So rare..
OMG LAURA INGALLS IS WEARING SHORTS (Better NOT tell her PA Or Caroline) LOL
obviously how they came up with "Rosemary" for her name (Rose as the Wilders' daughter and Mary Laura's sister).
You should see the way Ma was dressed when she cruised on the Love Boat! 😂

Half-pint on a skate board?
Melisa another of my favorites
Whattt I was told that Laura and Manley’s first kiss was her first kiss!

Ester Loeve Patrick Laborteux so the Laborteaux brothers
