That rack kit looks familiar. Was it the.. 895 kit? I think I recognize the ca-891 with the parametric eq. Bought the whole kit freshman year in college, either '87 or '88. The last piece I had from it, the mt programmable turntable, died on me a few months ago.
@@ChrisGarage I had two of their VCRs at the same time. Pretty sure one was the 990, the other one was a slightly lower model. Rented tapes and spent all night dubbing them.
Nice Fisher rack ! I just bought FVH-950 and can’t get any input audio from rear jacks. Is there a certain setting to get audio in only? Does unit need a video signal to record Hi-Fi audio only? Thanks
I’m not sure about the 950 the 990 mode will record without video signal. I also have a switch to select the ext audio which is a separate audio input jack on the back that says audio only
@@ChrisGarage ok thanks. The FVH-950 also has the audio only switch on front panel. Using both rca inputs I was unable to get the VU meters to move on VCR to record audio. The coax inputs work though. Has me a bit perplexed. Seems it would be simple. I even purchased the remote in hopes of some success. There may be something wrong with the unit. Seller sold it to me, stating it worked. When it arrived the capstan belt was goo. It didn’t play at all. So it was a freebie via eBay protection plan. I may mess around some more with it. I have a rubber band in place of capstan belt until the new belt arrives. Do you still use your vcr to record audio? I was wondering if their recording sound quality is good enough to merit fixing it. Maybe a bad cap or something isn’t allowing the rca inputs to not work. I have a really good Fisher CR-wZ1 cassette deck with dbx that sounds awesome. This 950 VCR is basically something to tinker around with. It doesn’t even fit in my current rack, too big. 🤷♂️
I do still use them. I’ve been super busy lately but the audio quality is excellent. I do have another 990 vcr that the meters wouldn’t work. It had multiple shorted capacitors. I replaced them and it started working. I get intermittent drop outs on that one so probably more are failing. I tinker with them in my spare time
Very hard to find any VCR with both hi-fi stereo and linear stereo with Dolby System noise reduction, especially in nice shape.
