Thanks for this video! I had the same problem and had to replace C211 and C109 but now my FVH-980 works! Without your video, I would have gone on a massive false lead and would have probably replaced all of the audio circuitry, Gotten nowhere and given up lol

Living in the Past, Thanks for checking out the video and glad you got your 980 repaired, a solid hifi video recorder from back in the day!

Nice troubleshooting on this unit; nice to see this VCR live on. The market back then spawned a vast array to select from, I know I went through my share. Thanks for your time!

Nice repair! i've never seen this model. i have a few of the next models up FVH-990 with my entertainment center. i have one that the power goes off right away but sometimes catches and stays on. haven't found the issue with that one yet.

Hi. I don't know if you will answer this but I have a fvh-990 and it does nothing when it gets power. It will pass power through it's passthrough but the machine does nothing. Not even the clock lights up. The fuse on the board is good. Could it be the regulator like the machine in the video?

So good to see Fisher VCRs get some love and care.
I wonder if you can help me with a problem that me and an experienced TV repairman are having. I bought a Fisher FVH 940 that I replaced the belts and idler on. After powering it up, the VCR played a cassette perfectly for a few seconds. However, the deck started to not play the picture and play faint sound (the first few seconds were actually quite loud for linear audio). The repairman suggested we replace the voltage regulator. We did and the deck displays a slightly brighter clock and the controls seem more responsive but we still have no picture or sound while the tape plays. Occasionally the sound will kick on, albeit faintly. The head drum spins irregularly before and after we replaced the voltage regulator. There seems to be a fault in the head amplifier board. That's my theory. How about yours?

Thanks for checking out the video! The head amp is definetly not causing the irregular cylider speed, for that I would check caps in the power supply and the servo board, all those low value caps are most likely bad, I dont recall if there are any on the actual cylinder motor board, if so check those also. The no picture issue might be because the caps in the head amp are also bad or maybe the video head is just dirty but that wouldnt prevent linear audio from working, I would start with the capacitors since there all now approaching 30+ years old.

@@luvradios We checked all capacitors in the power supply, we checked all of them in the main board, video board and the servo board. All turned out to be good. We are both stumped. The deck seems to be fine in appearance. There was a trace that got cracked in the audio board but we have since fixed that. It was right next to the plastic post that became hard and would put pressure on the board. I removed the post to avoid any further damage. If you have more ideas, please let us know. I really would like to get the machine going again.

@@luvradios Bump if you have any further ideas. I wonder if going through the potentiometers one-by-one while having it hooked to a CRT TV might fix the issue.

@@2ndPyleOfVinyl , I'm not sure, you've checked the same things I would have, if all the power supply voltages are known good then maybe start looking over the boards for any voltage regulators and check their voltage, just because you have good supply voltage in the PS doesnt necessarily mean secondary VR/transistors are outputting their correct voltages.

@@luvradios Thank you for that. What would be a good part of a FVH 940 to check. Is there a way I can download a service manual?

I have a FVH-839 HiFi unit that I bought off ebay that is in perfect condition but will not power on. Any easy fixes you can lead me too or can I ship it to you to have it fixed?
