I think Ma Long 2019 (after returning from his injury in 2018) might have been a better player because his playstyle was more rounded, and he made fewer unforced errors. But in 2015-2017 he was undoubtedly the most dominant player ever, and his physique was better than it has been from 2019 until now.

It’s amazing. ML has won 2 Olympics, 3 WTTC, 2 world cups, Asian games, Asian Champ. What many people don’t know is he also won 2 rounds in Chinese game which takes place every 4 years. Some said the Chinese game is extremely competitive not even ZJK or LGL won any gold.
Yeh the Chinese Games is way more difficult than even the Olympics. In the Olympics there are only 3 Chinese TT players, in the Chinese games there are like 16 at more or less the same level.

I am subbed to this guy who is about a 2200 player. And honestly he's pretty goddamn good. Looks amazing when he plays, has a variety of shots, and returns damn near everything. He's awesome to watch. Then I come here and watch this guy and you realize there's levels to this shit... Jesus Christ this guy is an alien.
Ha it's like that in every sport. There are always monsters who feel like they're beyond the realm of what is humanly possible. I'm Chinese American, and I grew up playing table tennis recreationally. But we didn't have much competition in the US... people are not very good. I'm from Hong Kong, so the only other time I played against better competition was when I traveled to HK. And they kicked my ass. And they're not even close to the level of China.... so I can only imagine how good the Chinese competition is... I also grew up in NYC, so pickup street basketball was a huge part of my childhood. Played in varsity in HS. The level we played at was already pretty high given that I was in a huge basketball city. Then I went onto college and even NCAA Div 1 guys felt like monsters compared to me... I can't imagine the level the NBA players are at.
2200 looks godlike to anyone not at that level: clean, fast, great movement, rock-solid. But it's the equivalent of 1st (maybe 2nd) degree black belt, beyond that point a mystical zen-like oneness with the ball and the ability to think multiple moves ahead becomes necessary. Ma Long's _opponents_ in these videos are 8th or 9th degree, a point where classification and rating become meaningless!
If I introduced Ma Long, I would not mention Olympics，world cup , whatever cup ....etc. just like that you won't mention what elementary school you graduated from in an interview for a job, you will always mention just the highest education you have. But WangHao is the only player ever who can keep almost 50% winning percentage against Ma Long. Ma Long’s prime was in 2015-2017. If 15-17’Ma Long had a chance to play with 09’Wang Hao that would be a fun match to watch.
He is one of a kind. Basically, offensive-oriented player, but also well-fitted to play dynamically like Kong Linghui and Wang Liqin. I think, If he wants to, he can play conservatively, further off the table like samsonov and still really tough to beat.
