I actually really liked Bullfrog. Idk why everyone doesn’t like him. He DID have character, you just had to look closer. Could Tui have done better writing him? Yes. But he was still interesting to see and I loved all the scenes with him
Bullfrog was really funny imo. Like when he pinned Axolotl down, and Wren was trying to tell him to let them go, and he was just so calm and quiet about it lol
Agreed tui should've put more sorry with him The thing that passed me off the most tho was that when everyone gave a memory to freedom bullfrog DIDNT DO ANYTHING
I actually really enjoyed Bullfrog to the point where he became one of my favorites, I wouldn’t say he has no personality. He was just didn’t get anyone’s jokes, His interactions with the others were hilarious to me especially Qibli in the 2nd Chapter. Sure I admit it would have been cool to have Umber, Sora, or Clay but I’m extremely happy with what we got.
@@chestnutstudios9690 yeah, he's just a big Jock, sure those never really seem to have a "personality", since they usually just oppose the main character's much more nerdy and well-varied personality (I.E. Flash Thompson and Peter Parker, or Hiccup and Snoutloud), though even then, there is no Bullfrog vs Quibli. Especially since it is much more of a Tom and Jerry type of thing, where Quibli is the Jerry and Bullfrog is the Tom, Bullfrog is the one who is bored about talking about the scorching, Quibli is the one who constantly trolls him. Heck, Bullfrog is probably being stern and silent less because he is a Jocky dragon and much more cause he is deep in thought with how all of this is related to his life, just like our main POV character, which I just forgot the name of, was it Ivory? Maybe I am just mixing up Mythrodak's new Trangender name and the character, which from my POV would be kind of funny tbh. Anyway, just cause Bullfrog isn't talkative for a chunk of the story like Quibli, doesn't mean he is devoid of personality. That would be like saying since main characters like Batman from the Animated Series or just main characters in general aren't the spotlight of the show or just don't have an interesting, compelling, colorful or even "cool" personality doesn't mean they don't have one. Not everyone has to be the next Hiccup or Captain Falcon, or what-have-you.
(Spoilers alert, and of course, just my opinion) Whilst imperfect, I did genuinely enjoy Arc 3's finale. The main issues I feel were that the book felt like it NEEDED to be longer. I felt like it NEEDED more than just one perspective (Luna) to tell the story. After all, we spent like two thirds of *Flames of Hope* down in a cave doing nothing. Luna is very reactive, but not a proactive protagonist. Besides that, Luna has just been so disconnected from the main plot for so long, and so there's all these characters and dynamics she's completely unfamiliar with. Hell, of all the dragons in this arc, the one she had the most of a relationship (outside of family & Swordtail) was Jerboa. Sure, we view things happening through the Mind Space but only bits and pieces. There are things constantly happening that we miss out on because Luna's stuck in a cave. First thing that comes to mind is Moon being rescued. I enjoyed the ending, but it has the same problem as the finale books of Arcs 1 & 2 did. It was too quick. The aftermath is near nonexistent and important things are completely glossed over because we no longer have time to discuss any of it. Wasp is now imprisoned and Jewel is queen? Cool, but why didn't we get to SEE that? Malachite is free after all these years? Awesome. But we just cut and he's with Katydid and Cricket. Why didn't we get a scene of him reuniting with Katydid, meeting Cricket and realizing how much of life he's missed out on? What about all the side characters? Ones who were important in previous books are now vague to non-existent. What happened to Belladonna? Nettle & Mandrake aren't even name dropped. Where's Io at the end? Or Scarab? Whatever happened to Admiral and all the other flame silks? Hell, what about BLUE? Outside of flashbacks did he even have a line of *dialogue* in this book? Considering just how important he was, it was like (to me) Luna didn't even care about him that much. I'm pretty sure she thinks of Dusky more than Blue. I wanted there to be a 'calm after the storm' once the other mind was destroyed. Time to sit, debrief and explore things in the ending. I wanted it to be longer so we could cover all these things, or at least some of them. As with Books 5 & 10 though, we don't. It's just BOOM! CONFLICT OVER! OKAY WE'RE DONE NOW, GO HOME GUYS!
@@solarssolstice Agreed, I didn't really specify there, my bad. My issue with that book wasn't the epilogue but more so the whole... 'thing' with Darkstalker and how the characters basically became hypocrites, murdered him and had no self-awareness. That said there's still stuff unmentioned like all the murdered Icewings & Nightwings but that's not as bothersome as the other stuff and doesn't really bother me.
I wish we saw more of Lynx and Sundew in Flames of Hope. They went on their own mission then came back when the book was like 7/8 already ended. It’d be cool to see their perspective of what they were doing. Not to mention getting rid of Moon, Qibli, and Tsunami as soon as the book started Edit: Typo Edit 2: Moon, Qibli, and Tsunami point
I feel like that's the problem. Tui put way too many characters in the flames of hope that it ends up with half of the group not doing anything and barely get any perspective. Yeah sure teamwork but your point?
@@Ionlyeatchipzeveryday We never saw Lynx, Sundew, Moon, Qibli, and Tsunami until the end, which is okay, but I think we should’ve had more perspectives like Lynx’s perspective or something.
The Luna art is so adorable! *Spoilers, my opinion on the book* I felt like it was an all right book but a really bad ending to the arc. They barely mentioned Wasp at all, just saying she was thrown in the prison at the end. We had such an interesting narrative with the way she controlled her subjects and how she might possibly be controlled or manipulated, and I thought Luna would have to do something with her. But nope, she’s thrown to the side while we get this completely unrelated story about the Scorching (though I do agree, I loved the lore) that had very little to do with what was going on, and didn’t really have that much foreshadowing. I really wish it HAD been the plant, or that Sundew had actually been caught, and then Luna had to face Wasp, who’s been at least an interesting idea for a villain so far. Also, on the story perspectives thing: I wish that’d been focused on more. It felt like the dragons’ version was barely a lie and I wish both had been drastically different versions where their species were the hero. I also really don’t like the involvement of humans. While the Scorching lore was cool and I felt Axolotl and Wren (and the other humans) got a good amount of time, I wish they weren’t as involved in the series. Overall, it was a very bad and messy ending to the arc, in my opinion, ending a fascinating narrative in something so unrelated.
Okay, I have been routinely spoiled on the story and yet my Mom (Long name meant to be a pun between Azure Dragon and Blue Star Ring) and Brother (EmperorSheep) have both told me the ending was really, really good. So I don't know if you might've misunderstood the ending or they have both set their standards really low? It is driving me mad, and I can't put an end to it because I have a test in an hour and 20 minutes! *Sigh* it's okay though, I suppose I'll find out later.
@@StoryTeller796 Well, maybe they thought of the ending differently. The ending ending (aka the epilogue) was really sweet and cute, and I liked that. The whole second part....I think it's a really cool story idea, just not the right ending for this arc. Just my opinion, tho.
For me I wasn't really a big fan of the book, I really would've liked to have seen the dragons of Pyrria explore more of Pantala. I felt like it wasn't wrapped up well.
There should be more of Pyrrhia in this. I can't help but think: Yeah so Pantala is all happy rn, but what about Pyrrhia? I don't think that its all happily ever after there yet. Or even on Pantala. After all, where there is light there must be shadow.
Spectacular drawing! You have really improved. The shading is amazing and I really hope u keep drawing and keep posting this type of content! Also…THE EYES! Oh my lord the eyes are so good!!!
I also saw this book like trail mix, a little bit of everything, some good and some wonky, it’s hard to eat because you don’t know what combinations of food will be good and what will be strange, but overall it’s really good!
I generally thought the ending was like: "Omg evil defeated silkwings got democracy everyone lived happily ever after lol Wings of fire over!" Why did book 15 get such a mushy ending?
Multiple times while reading book 15, I just blanked out and had to go back because, to me, it was just super confusing and all over the place with the mind space and all the flashbacks and stuff. Wasn’t my favorite book, but some parts of it were cool and the new characters are interesting. Definitely gonna make fanart of Dusky soon ;)
Despite all wasted opportunity I actually like Bullfrog. I really enjoyed his interactions with other characters especially Cricket, their personality play off each other very well. Like you said, the lore was fantastic and I was suprise how much I come to like the twist with Cottonmouth. I agree that he wasn't the most complex antagonist in the series but I still find him quite enterteining, he gives me kinda a mad scientist vibes. Despite being a human villan Tui was able to made him pretty threating and I think that's impressive. Also the scene with him and Freedom in the abyss - that's some tasty body horror right there! Delicious💖
I'll agree; book fifteen was strange. It completely strayed from the ending of all the other arcs, kind of straying away from the easy-to-understand ending of the other books. Not that I don't like that, but it could have played out better. I had such high hopes for the book, but I was sort of disappointed with the actual outcome. (In Tui's defense, this seemed like a really hard scrape to get out of.) One thing I was frustrated with was the humans. Don't get me wrong, I love Dragonslayer and even meeting Sky, Wren, and Daffodil in The Dangerous Gift. (Though I do wish Ivy and Leaf were there too; Ivy was my favorite protagonist; Leaf's story was my favorite.) But having them play a vital role in Pyrrhia's and Pantala's futures... let's just say I started reading Wings of Fire because it was a book completely from the dragon's perspective where humans were just side characters, little details to add in, painting the species' relationship in a completely different light. Luna's character development MADE NO SENSE. Luna's personality in The Lost Continent and The Hive Queen was rebellious. Fierce. Strong. Then when we were in her perspective, she's a total wus about feelings. Her little motto, 'No problems here, I'm still smiling' I felt didn't match the personality she had portrayed in earlier books. OH, MY GOODNESS, THIS BOOK IS A BEACON OF WASTED OPPORTUNITIES. Sky's and Peril's reunion, Cricket's reunion with her parents (well, we got a little of that, but not the actual reunion,), and she could have had a really cool 'second coming of Clearsight' scene with Moon, but that never happened. OH, and Ivy meeting Sunny. The SilkWings' government thing. C'mon, really, appoint a queen. Stick with tradition. I guess that's all... I probably forgot some things. Other than these few things, I liked the book.
Honestly I think the best word to describe this book is anticlimactic. The only parts of this book I found myself enjoying was Freedom and Qibli. I was SOO disappointed with what Tui did with Wasp. She was so scary! But in the end she was barely more than a background character. She was like cottonmouth's evil henchman or something. And the book really was all over the place. I'm not trying to hate on Tui or the book it was just a bit of a letdown imo. But I'm glad for the people who liked it!
This is SUCH a good drawing and review, I can't even. I love your art and your content, never fails to put a smile on my face. I got the book and I wanted to say, you did such a good job!
I for the life of me cannot understand why people don't like Book 15. You got massive amounts of lore which was amazing and the characters flow nicely I didn't mind the pacing and thought it was pretty good. While sure bullfrog isn't great no book can be perfect. And getting to see so many different characters interact with each other was really great and none of them felt like they were awkward to me I especially felt that Sky was pretty good and I loved Freedom. The ending however was the best part for me and how it wrapped up, but something I think it really shows how good this book was was that I am the type of person that if my favorite character is not in the book it is almost certainly not going to be my favorite and my favorite character is darkstalker meanwhile I was always wishy-washy on whether or not I wanted darkstalker Legends or some other book to be my favorite but reading this one it instantly became my favorite hands down which if you can sway a darkstalker fanboy I think that says a little bit about the quality of the book.
Yeah she's one of my favorite artists. I like the speedpaint. The colors were really nice. I will say that Luna in this picture has a lot going on. That's one long curly tail.
I was really hoping that they could save freedom at the end of the book. It was so sad when lizard had to go, I was crying 😭. She deserved so much more. I hope Tui makes a prolog book like Darkstalker and Dragonslayer for Freedom/lizard. 😭😭😭😭😭
I found book 15 disappointing. One of the main reasons is the stakes were not high enough. Before I got it, I was hoping for a main character death. Not someone like Qibli, but Swordtail, or maybe even Blue or Cricket. But a few chapters after the first island skirmish, I immediately knew that no one was going to die. It really lowered the stakes, and for me, it lowered my expectations for the rest of the book. Freedom was an interesting character, Dusky was so amazing, and the scorching lore was nice, but the plot got really messy as soon as Luna fell down the cave. My favourite part of the book was Jambu and Pineapple flashbacks. It was just to cute, and is one of the only ships to make me feel genuinely happy. Rated a 6.5/10. After a reread, it will probably be higher, but for now I'm disappointed.
The amount of confusion I had when Cottonmouth and Freedom were explaining the flashbacks, mindscape and Othermind was unreal- like seriously younger kids read this series, so if I had a hard time understanding that HOW are they?! Also am I the only one who NEEDS to know what kind of hybrid Freedom was because like WHAT- Ok I’m not done- My problems with this book are: It was NOT long enough. Tbh, book 15 should have been ASTRONOMICALLY longer than all the other WoF books. To wrap up something as long, loved and extensive as the Wings Of Fire series things should have been MUCH more explained than they were. I don’t like Luna as the protagonist. Am I the only one who thinks Luna was a bad and relatively uninteresting protagonist? She’s been separated from what was actually going on for 2 books for Christ’s sake. You know who I personally think should have been the protagonist? Everyone. Yeah, I think Tui should have mixed it up and switched between all the dragons in the rescue group, and Blue and Swordtail back on Pantala. It’s the series finale after all, so why not? Because the POV was so limited, what happened to all the secondary characters? What happened to literally everybody else’s perspective? Seriously, Lynx and especially Sundew were very important characters in previous books, and for like, HALF of book 15 they were gone rescuing Moon! And when they finally rescued her, Tui didn’t even explain how THAT happened. And don’t EVEN get me started on Bullfrog. Sure, he seems like a sweet guy, and he gets a LITTLE bit of personality, but beyond that ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. No backstory, no character development, no nothing. At least Pineapple got a relationship with Jambu (which I absolutely LOVE-) and was involved more. WHAT happened to Snowfall?? Seriously where is she?? Not to mention all of the Dragonets of Destiny, except Glory and Tsunami and been radio silent since book 11. I don’t like the relationships with the humans. Honestly, I feel like the humans were explained WAY too much in this book and they should have focused on the dragons more. Cottonmouth is a shitty villain. Seriously, when I found out that the entire reason the Othermind existed was because of some salty dead guy I was flabbergasted. He seemed to have absolutely ZERO motivation behind doing what he did except that he was power hungry. And also, how did Cottonmouth and Freedom even GET to Pantala? Did they explain that in the book and I just missed it? And what even IS Freedom? WHAT is she a hybrid of?? I’m at a loss and I REALLY wish we could have got an explanation on that. What about Wasp?! She was such an imposing and intimidating villain in books 11, 12, 13 and 14, and then all they had to do was for Pineapple to spit on her and she was delt with. Seriously, there was no creative and complicated way for her to go down, she just became the next Queen Scarlet. Then she got thrown into prison without a second thought and we didn’t get to see any of it. And finally, the ending felt SO rushed- literally the BIGGEST baddie of Ark 3, the Othermind, was defeated with a couple of words from Freedom and some hedge trimming. Seriously like what- And what’s this about the SilkWings making a council thing instead of getting a queen? They need a queen! That’s how dragons rule, why did we just a total rule change? What happened to the LeafWings? Where are they going to live now? Are they going to stay in the Poison Jungle or somewhere else until the LeafSilk village is made?? In the end, book 15 was fine, but by FAR not my favorite WoF book, like it honestly should have been. Multiple times during the story I felt myself getting bored with Luna’s limited and dull perspective. Heck, I had more fun reading book 7 than this one. (Although Winter IS my favorite character ever so- WinterWatcher for LIFE-) Overall, book 15 just felt sloppy to me, it wasn’t engaging and it didn’t give me the “I WILL NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN UNTIL I FINISH IT” thrill that the other WoF books gave me, like book 14 did. I was reading the Fazbear Frights story “The Breaking Wheel” a day after I read The Flames Of Hope and it occurred to me that I was more into this short story consisting of 57 pages than I was reading the entirety of this books 330. It didn’t do the amazing, long and complex series that is Wings Of Fire justice. I am so disappointed with this book that honestly it just feels like a fever dream and my mind won’t accept that it was the end to the series.
I know that I'm a bit late to this but YES I could not have put together my opinion better than this! I finally got around on reading the flames of hope and was so excited for the series to end with an banger..... And was feeling incredibly disappointed after I read my mind really went "This is it?" for hours on end after finishing this book!
Wooooof, totally late to this, but I've been putting off reading TFoH forreeeverr, so when I finally bit the bullet, suddenly I realized maybe I had the right idea after all, lol. Anyway, to answer your "how did they get to Pantala?" question, from what I remember - Cottonmouth (along with a handful of other humans from Pyrrhia) got on a raft and literally SAILED to Pantala. Lizard was one of the eggs Cottonmouth stole, so he took her with him. Absolutely NO idea how he managed to sail between continents, though. It was stated before that no dragon had made the journey there before because they had no idea what was even out there, no telling how long they'd have to fly without rest; if there was even another continent somewhere beyond the horizon in the FIRST PLACE. So how in the WORLD did a HUMAN know if even dragons didn't? Let alone SAIL there on a dinky raft. Not a well constructed ship, a RAFT. It was just something that bothered me during my initial read through, among other things.
I'm pretty sure, for Freedom, she was implied to be, given it was over 5,000 years ago, essentially from a tribe that is an ancestor to various other tribes (she had traits of LeafWings, RainWings, and others). Given that was the time of the scorching when dragons began to have queens, I think this was the beginning point of dragon evolution. I think Tui should make a legends book about it, to be honest. If she did it for Darkstalker, I see no reason not to do that for Freedom and the dragons from that era. It was honestly very interesting, I liked a lot of the ideas here and loved the lore dump, but I do hope Tui makes a book about that. It might've been better if she had split it in two books like she did with arc 2 and Darkstalker, or if she made the last book longer. I think another legends book would be a good idea. That would probably explain Cottonmouth more and why humans became much more rare in a dragon-dominated world. I think she had a lot of great ideas here, and I do think Freedom is an interesting character and her backstory is tragic, and her sacrificing herself did make me respect her, but I think the scorching needs more backstory. The last few chapters were definitely rushed, as I agree about Wasp. I wonder if the pandemic had any influence on this book because of the time it was written.
Thanks for the review! I love watching reviews from creators since they’re often very honest. I too feel neutral about it, it felt like Tui was just… done with it, but it was also a very interesting book.
I personally didn't rlly like book 15. I dunno but human, dragon realationships and the scorching and cottonmouth and Freedom felt kinda shoved into this book. I would have preferred Queen Wasp to be the main antagonist. I feel it would have made more sense for Human, dragon relationships and the schorching and maybe Freedom and cottonmouth to have its own arc.
I do agree Queen Wasp needed more closure in the ending, as there was a lot built up with her. I think Tui should have (and still should) make a legends book about Freedom and the scorching just like she did about Darkstalker. I still admittedly like Freedom and her sacrifice did get me, so I would like to see more of her, though a legends book may have been more appropriate to flesh her out, or another arc where perhaps Wasp's defeat causes Cottonmouth to have full control of the plant or something.
i feel like what wouldve been an AMAZING turning point in this book would be if moon got infected. I mean if you thinnk about it, she couldve entered the room in the scene when quibli, tsunami, and pineapple were trying to escape. If she walked in, all white eyes from wasp/cotton, quibli wouldve been crushed, the others wouldbt escape, and overall everyone wouldve been screwed. That wouldve also done a really big punch to how luna's confidence. Just so she would be more cautious, and definitely it shouldve had effects into the end.
I completely agree with you about sky. He was a bit of a clash with the entire mood of the book. Also I love your commentary, this is the first video I’ve watched and I really like it! Keep up the good work!
here's the thing with the scorching: How exactly did the need to kill humans. Create monarchy???? and Ethnonationalism??? The scorching was built up as the origin for dragon society, of tribes and queens and it feels like Tui spent that build up to add to a really boring villain. Cottonmouth is just a bad addition to the lore, he simplifies everything he touches, the eldritch horror of the breath of evil is now just a salty guy in a cave. the once curious origin of a very broken society is just a standard revenge story which answers no questions.
I wholeheartedly agree with this reply. The explanation we got for the scorching feels very sloppy for me and creates a lot more plotholes than answers. How did humans manage to steal eggs without anyone noticing? How did they manage to hatch the eggs? If the dragons loved their eggs so much how did the stealing become a problem so big that genocide was the answer? And don't get me started on the Breath of Evil, a terrifing antagonist turned generic hivemind. It seems that whenever Tui introduces something interersting it either gets destroyed or poorly explained for example: The Breath of Evil, the Icewing Circle system, the Skywing Arena, the Rainwing rulership system,Anemones personality.
If I'm going to be fully honest, I hated Luna at the beginning of the book, she felt too much like a side character that was stuck onto what Sundew ALREADY HAD. Her whole thing is not being able to accept Hivewings and the fact that she's judging everyone, but we already did that. I didn't feel like we needed to go through this whole character arc AGAIN, after just doing it with Snowfall and Sundew. I also just hated how her hatred was written. As Sundew it was rage that was fun and amusing with Snowfall it paranoia and anxiety which somehow felt relatable. But Luna didn't really have a reason. Sure, she had a reason for the hivewings, BUT EVERYONE ALREADY came to the conclusion that it wasn't their fault. She spent the whole book blaming Cricket and only pretended to be nice to her because Blue liked her. The only thing that actually kept me enjoying the book were THE OTHER CHARACTERS. I loved the new additions, I loved Pineaple and his relationship with Jambu, I loved Bullfrog, Bullfrog MADE sense. He gave us a NEW MUDWING, he did have a personality. It wouldn't have made sense to put in any other mudwing that we know. Clay has o run the school, besides he's injured, and all of his other siblings are A) doing there job, or t school, or B) missing. So, I think Bullfrog was an AMAZING choice. Another problem for me was Wren. I LOVE Wren and Sky and the WHOLE human book. But ever since the fourteenth it just seemed a bit random to throw them in? I know it made sense to the story, it's just that prior to ANY OTHER BOOK, humans were barely mentioned, Wren, not EVEN sky was there, even a bit of hinting would've been better. And that's a thing I kept feeling during the entire book, every human interaction seemed more like an after-thought, an IMPORTANT after thought, but it's like they discussed the important things and then moved on. No one tried to acknowledge the humans, despite them being sentient, unless it was written into the personality to do so. The whole, creating a safe world for humans and dragons was random AND JUST BROUGHT UP and now everyones like "yep, mmhmm, we met this tiny mammals three minutes ago but they deserve rights" Like, it took the tribes 20 years to stop a war. In the end the only time I actually liked Luna is when she was stuck in a cave being mind controlled. Before then she was written almost too childish? or snobby I guess. Some would argue the Sky is childish, but he was raised that way, Sky was never reprimanded for being childish so why would he stop. I found it perfectly natural for his interactions. But other than those things, I enjoyed the story and all of the side characters were great. I would've liked a Sky-Peril reunion, but I guess it wouldn't have made sense from Luna's perspective. So, thanks for coming to me Ted-talk, tell me I guess if you disagree with some of things listed, I love watching people argue (Also I really liked Freedom/Lizard, found her the way she should be)
I would’ve loved this book if it wasn’t just Luna. Maybe 1st part I don’t care who, 2nd pineapple, 3rd Luna. Without changing the plot, we get to see Moon being rescued and escaping Wasp. Then he goes into the mindspace and doesn’t just sit and do nothing. We learn about Freedom and Cotton Mouth through him, as well as a bit more details on Moon and the mindspace. Show Pineapple’s guilt at hurting someone m, and mix it with developing his relationship with Jambu. And more of his personality could be shown. Third part, we start to see Luna showing Lizard empathy, after sympathizing with her misery. Then we have the climax. The first part would be someone else on the team. Maybe Sky, to watch the battle, relay being captured, show Luna going into the pit, and talk with humans. Maybe give him the smallest of growth to be more serious, or take the responsibility of human-dragon relationships, after meeting the eager Axolotl. We also see Sky’s empathy, noting Luna getting along with Dusky, so it makes sense for her to dive into the pit. Blue or Cricket for the epilogue. Blue has no lines, so maybe we see Cricket and Blue meeting each other’s family for the first time at the tree party, as well as Cricket’s first interaction with Malachite.
I feel like there were a lot of humans in this story. Yes, it was really cool to see what happened in the Scorching, but this is a dragon book- what sets it apart from other books with dragons is that humans are just a pretty small part. Yes, I did like Dragonslayer, but it was good as a side book. I just feel like having the main villain in a dragon book be a human, and having so many human characters feels a bit sad to me. I do like Wren, I just don't really like the idea of having humans in Wings Of Fire.
Cant wait till Netflix comes out with this book! I'm not a super imaginative person so I would love to see how Tui wanted the creepy scenes to be conveyed
I would have three ideas, what you could make for your next video (only if you want of cause): 1. drawing evil main characters 2. what-if evil Glory, based on LampP0st's Evil Glory AU, cause it's good, but it misses some important stuff 3. RainWing face-expressions with respective body-colour
I honestly really love this book. Like you said, the lore is great! And as a role-player this book bring so many new elements in my opinion. Freedom was awesome, I love her saltiness and how she basically dedicated her life to annoying Cottenmouth. Luna’s “rainy days” are so relatable, I love her. I do wish Tui had given Bullfrog some more character except for being a boring slow blog XD. But yeah, overall I found this book great. Oh, and I do think Wasp deserved for then just getting shoved in prison, like seriously. I’m gonna talk about Lizard for a second because I LOVE her. Ok hear me out… Near the end of the book, this tiny dragonet had to make the choice between living on in torture, or dying and saving the world. Now can we keep in mind her that she is a VERY young dragonet, she shouldn’t have to make a decision like that! But anyways, her whole life she’s basically just been surrounded by a narcissistic human that hates her, like cmon. *Don’t even get me started with Cotten mouth omg*. But yeah, I love how sassy she is and that scene at the end where she got renamed Freedom made my cry, like heckkk. I don’t think she should have somehow survived though. I don’t think she deserved to die, I just think that what happened was the best thing to keep the book feeling real and less like a fairy tail.
I have a (literal) 30 minute long rant about this book lol. My main problems were the fact that Sundew, Cricket, and Especially Blue were barely involved. IN past arcs, we had a good idea of who the main cast was, and you can look back and say "oh, thats the Dragonets of Destiny and the Jade Winglet.' for this arc, we don't have that, its a mix of dragons that barley seem like a coherent group (at least after book 13). I didn't really like Luna as a POV for book 15, i would've much preferred a character like Sky... idk if he'd be that much better, but Luna just doesn't feel that right to me. Also, in arc 3 there a re just too many characters that we barely see much of beyond small interactions, their only purpose being grow a tiny attachment to because they've found their true love or whatever. I'm not explaing it that well rn lol but for me there were just a ton of problems with arc 3. at the end of the day though, I still don't have a single BAD memory with Wings of Fire. It will always hold a special place in my heart =]
Do you have any tricks for when part of your dragon has too much detail, (like a seawing tail can get very cluttered with the glowing stripes and all) and when other parts are a little blank?
I may not have really liked it but oh my I LOVED pinebu ( pineapple and Jambu) I can’t get over those two!! Also do you have an email I can send fanart to?
To be honest, I like how the book is paced. But this is only because I have a short attention span, so he way the book kept hopping around helped me read it because of that.
i haven't read book 15 but is hoping i was going to get a wrap up of what the book was like cause i can't buy the book yet and i have been anxiously waiting for it to come to our libary
This video is very informative, even just one minute through. I have not read the book yet, and am still considering whether or not to buy it as it has so many mixed reviews. But this video is exactly what I was looking for, as it explains how the book was all over the place and semi-anticlimactic. Of course I’m still going to read the book, but this video gives me enough information to help me know what I’m getting myself into :)
i feel like book 15 was very underwhelming for the last book of an arc. it had so much to do in so little pages that i felt it only touched on the many aspects that led to the freeing of pantala. It wasnt bad, but it wasnt as good as it could be
I liked the way they wrote Luna's mental health, but other than that she was kind of a boring protagonist. I feel like the book should have switched pov's around instead of just having one, it would have given more insight on what was happening outside of the weird mindspace. Idk.
CAN YOU DO ANOTHER TUTORIAL ON SOMETHING THE TUTORIALS ARE REALLY HELPING ALSO J LOVE YOUR STULE AND I COMMENT ON A LOT OF YOURE VIDEOS AND IM SORRY SO SAYING SO MUCH I JUST LOVE YOUR STYLE AND PERSONALITYYYYYYYYY
MY OPINION: A lot of the stuff going on didn't really feel wings of fire-y, but it was a nice ending to the current series. I loved it how the pyrrhian dragons interacted with the pantalan dragons more, including my favorite characters :D It was fun to read but i kinda wish it was just a little longer so they could explain why some things just made sense-
This book was probably my least favorite in the series. I thought that having a protagonist sit in a cave for 40% of the book kind of made it less intense, even if the action going on outside was exciting. Sky and Wren's little "silly moments" seemed out of place, and even I started to get annoyed. My favorite part of the book was actually the beginning, where they were all flying and joking together, and then the fight on the island. I feel like if the crew had been able to stick together and fight their way through the whole book, it would have been more interesting.
This isn't my full review or anything, but I was disappointed with Bullfrog's character. Not with the reasons you were saying, but because he was the PERFECT opportunity to actually introduce an autistic character. I fell in love with him when he first met him because I literally related to everything he did-- I have had the exact conversation happen to me before that happened with Qibli and Bullfrog. I know a lot of other autistic fans of the series relate to him as well, but after being introduced he faded into the background. All he did after that was just explain to the dragons something that *Clay* said, and it kind of bothered me. Just a little bit of an insight to how he thinks would have made things a whole lot better. We didn't even get a flashback to his life! He was one of the only dragons that got skipped in that scene. But just like many other autistic characters, we never get confirmation from the writers and they just remained headcanon. Some genuine representation is something that is lacking in modern media, so a character some other people could relate to would have made this more enjoyable to me. Welp, there is the world of headcanons lol
@@cyprusdraegon hey! If you'd like a suggestion, I have one for a what if for book 15. 'What if Luna saved lizard?' just an idea, I’d really love to see it! And I loved the What if whiteout was an animus?
I also think the book was a bit weird. I did not really like the end, like, what happened to the pantalan dragons? It seemed as though they just disappeared from thin air.
Y did it take me so long to finish the series!?!? I was halfway through the series when i saw this and it probably pushed me to read it faster. But it still took me forever. Anyway love ur art cyprus and cant wait to see more!!
I loved all the backstory. I had been waiting for the Scorching too. I enjoyed seeing another flashback of the Dragonets too. And that art is amazing! I love the pose.
Probably an unpopular opinion but I think lizard and cottonmouth were pretty useless, like we could’ve just had an intelligent plant?? I mean Tui already showed that the plant was the one in control, she never hinted to a human and a 5 000 yr old dragon??
I would have liked this book more if it wasn’t the finale. I feel like I was so excited to read this book, but when I actually started reading, I got kinda bored. So overall it was a good book, just doesn’t meet my expectations of the finale for Wings Of Fire
I actually really enjoyed the book, and I also understand what you’re talking about. There were lots of missed opportunities and things that could happen. I thought it was a really nice book, and I think I cried the first time I read the book (when freedom had to say goodbye), but there were lots of things that felt missing
I loved this book! I only have a few issues starting with the most obvious one WE NEEDED A LONGER EPILOGUE , I loved learning about how the hive wings were reacting, the fact that the tribes were crossing the continents almost regularly, and about Cricket’s family. On the other hand there’s a bunch of things that I thought we need to know, one is are the silk wings moving out of the hives? And what about Blue and Cricket, and what about the leaf wing tribe? Another issue is that the group of ten dragons sent to fulfill a prophecy barely worked together as a WHOLE group . I mean there were small groups like Qible, Pineapple, anything Tsunami, but never the WHOLE group working together. Yet there were things I loved about this book, let’s get the obvious out of the way, QIBLE! Qible being annoying the whole time WAS AWESOME! And BUMBLEBEE I LOVE HER! Also adding dusky to the books was awesome. And finally if the fans get to see a arc 4 the main povs should be Auklet, Peacemaker, Dusky, and prince Cliff. These were my opinions! Ty! (This took 4 ever to write)
I agree that Bullfrog didn't match the spot he was given. But, he did have personality. It was just different from a lot of the outgoing or POV characters around him. I also feel like it needed to be longer. I was kind of squished, like, oh here's my opportunity, I'm going to take it-and suddenly I'm the hero and it's over.
Whaaat, no mention of Axolotl? They were one of my favorite characters in this book. That said, I love your Luna art and I too am way too excited about all of the lore we got in this book:)
They are kind of the sort of thing that shouldn’t be skipped out on in a proper review, I don’t know what Cyprus is thinking. Why can’t/wouldn’t she include them.
I haven't read the book, but from what my friend told me, it is mainly flashback. I don't know if I'm going to finish the series, because I honestly didn't like the 3rd arc from what I read. I love all of the other books, but I kind of got lost at book 11.
(pls don't shame me on my opinion) Book 15 was so good but i dislike how Luna and Dusky were stuck in the abyss for half the book. I also dislike how lizard/freedom acted, it was slightly to childish, but i understand. The scorching was so good. Qibli is awesome. Queen's face's being melted off: 2! (I loved that part)
I liked the book, but it was very... anticlimatic. Like, we barely saw Wasp and the conflict on the surface, and then she's just in prison? I felt like we could've gotten a VERY cool fight scene with Cottonmouth or Wasp but that never happened..... (excluding the beginning) It overall just left me with more questions than answers.
There was just so much lead up and potential towards this book and it was made out to have a “great battle” to save the world when really to fix everything you just had to cut a plant. I also don’t like what they did with blue and swordtail, whilst they were under the breath of evil it was like “oh no it’s the end of the world” and they both kept coming up in the books all the way through book 14-15 but they never actually had a part to play and it kind of felt like blue as a protagonist for book 11 kind of didn’t get what he deserved as a character and was just looked at through the whole of book 15 as that “little brother who’s nice and needs saving” like he’s a damsel in distress and hasn’t been somewhat of a major part of arc three, I just feel like it would have been a better story (my opinion) that either blue and/or swordtail where down in the abyss as well. Also I hate how over half of this book is in the abyss, Luna doesn’t even move for majority of this book and it annoys me that if we had changed perspectives part way through the book and then switched back later it would of been so much better if we got to see what Lynx and Sundew where doing or what moon or swordtail even instead of them just been brought in at the end for a fight that barley lasted a few pages. All over this book was really good I just didn’t like how the lead up pretty much was resolved by nothing and everything went on as if nothing happened, I just felt a little let down when I had finished.
Huh, each and every single one of these reviews seem to just be criticizing these books for not being able to further the plot or make consistent sense, and honestly it makes me worry about my Dreamland world of nonsense. Then again, this is a Wings of Fire book, not a wonderland dream logic book or other media and I am honestly trying to enjoy it though I am starting to feel the old age from the criticism of these books. So, can I ask for a perspective to actually enjoy these books, because I think I've lost mine. Maybe you can make one up for me, making a video for each and every single book so that people like me can enjoy these books? Nah, just a comment should work just fine, and anyway I wouldn't want you making a series that revolves around me, that's kind of selfish really, and I could settle with making an animation when I learn and actually put in the work for Aseprite on my channel and upload it from there to try to help people enjoy more media while still being able to understand it on a critical level. Which I think a lot of us have forgotten, or really and honestly don't care to learn. I know I don't want to learn my Mindfulness book because I want to give myself a challenge against suffering in trying to reconcile two schools of thoughts. It's really painful, like really painful, like I am routinely miserable and whenever I am happy I am in pure elation, like I used up all my depression and am now spending the rest of my joy. It really is a miserable way of living, which is why after I suffer I try to avoid having to ever be put through that ever again, and then I get tempted to do the whole thing all over again and I eventually cave in and then the cycle repeats all over again. I CANNOT ESCAPE IT, THERE IS NO ESCAPE AND THERE IS NO HOPE TO ESCAPE IT. This is my fate, to be in this cycle forevermore. Even though I do have periods where I do escape it, I think we all know that there is no permanent escape, especially for someone with Autism, Depression, ADHD, and is a Mexican. It's just a never ending cycle for someone like me. Anyway, I have an End of Grade testing at 12:00, so I won't really be here when that happens. Though, I hope you shall wish me the best of luck, and I should probably be studying while putting myself in the right head-space to actually do it.
Besides the flaws, overall I did enjoy book 15. But I sort of wish it put more focus on the reunions the story has been hinting at and leading up to (ex: Blue and Cricket didn’t even speak to each other when reunited, and Cricket and her parents were only mentioned as awkward. They didn’t even get a scene. And of course, Sky and Peril’s whole thing. )
About the Mudwing part, maybe if there is a fourth arc, umber or Sora will be a part of that. I heard that Tui might be planning on doing a fourth arc, and if she is planning on putting umber into that, then it would make sense to not include umber or Sora for the 3rd arc. It makes sense for there to be a fourth arc, and one of the hypothetical books would have a high chance of having a Mudwing protagonist.
It would've been great to have Umber in the book, since he is a great character, in my opinion, and I'm happy that Tui is thinking of having him in the 4th arc, even though I'm worried how that 4th arc is going to turn out.
im so exited to read the books me and my friend raced to the libary to get our hands on book eleven, he got there first but i but I borrowed another from a fellow class mate, we are obsessed
I just read the book in one 4 hour long sitting and I have to say, it’s a lot to take in. My main issue with it is I want to know more about the dragons before tribes. Were they all different, with different powers? How did they split into 10 uniform tribes that all fit a description if the starting dragons were a mixture of everything? I also would love to know what Freedom and the others looked like at the Scorching-
I actually really liked Bullfrog. Idk why everyone doesn’t like him. He DID have character, you just had to look closer. Could Tui have done better writing him? Yes. But he was still interesting to see and I loved all the scenes with him
I liked bullfrog too
Bullfrog was really funny imo. Like when he pinned Axolotl down, and Wren was trying to tell him to let them go, and he was just so calm and quiet about it lol
i totally agree he made me crack up
Agreed tui should've put more sorry with him
The thing that passed me off the most tho was that when everyone gave a memory to freedom bullfrog DIDNT DO ANYTHING
I know I like him to!
YES I totally agree. Idk why everyone thinks he doesn’t have personality
(Spoilers alert, and of course, just my opinion)
Whilst imperfect, I did genuinely enjoy Arc 3's finale.
Book 10 in the epilogue shows what most of the important characters were doing after Darkstalker was defeated.
@@pupville1055 Exactly!
In the epilogue he gets one line it's still only one but he is there
this is perfect
u said exactly what I was thinking-
I wish we saw more of Lynx and Sundew in Flames of Hope. They went on their own mission then came back when the book was like 7/8 already ended. It’d be cool to see their perspective of what they were doing.
Not to mention getting rid of Moon, Qibli, and Tsunami as soon as the book started
Edit: Typo
Edit 2: Moon, Qibli, and Tsunami point
I feel like that's the problem. Tui put way too many characters in the flames of hope that it ends up with half of the group not doing anything and barely get any perspective. Yeah sure teamwork but your point?
@@Ionlyeatchipzeveryday We never saw Lynx, Sundew, Moon, Qibli, and Tsunami until the end, which is okay, but I think we should’ve had more perspectives like Lynx’s perspective or something.
The Luna art is so adorable!
*Spoilers, my opinion on the book*
I felt like it was an all right book but a really bad ending to the arc.
@@Xenyca Oh, okay then. The test is over, so now I can try to think about it once I get to it.
For me I wasn't really a big fan of the book, I really would've liked to have seen the dragons of Pyrria explore more of Pantala. I felt like it wasn't wrapped up well.
I whole-heartedly agree here
Same😠
yep. still too many plot holes :/
There should be more of Pyrrhia in this. I can't help but think: Yeah so Pantala is all happy rn, but what about Pyrrhia? I don't think that its all happily ever after there yet. Or even on Pantala. After all, where there is light there must be shadow.
Ya same
Spectacular drawing! You have really improved. The shading is amazing and I really hope u keep drawing and keep posting this type of content! Also…THE EYES! Oh my lord the eyes are so good!!!
AGREED
And the spikes! :O
@@superhotnachos6635 yes they are BEAUTIFUL
I also saw this book like trail mix, a little bit of everything, some good and some wonky, it’s hard to eat because you don’t know what combinations of food will be good and what will be strange, but overall it’s really good!
That is a very apt description. I totally agree!
“Lets start with the annoying one” Hivewing soldier
“Start with me if you dare…” Tsunami
“Hey who do you think he ment?” Qibli
LMAO
him would say
Same one: what are you
Qibli: I am a Vigo
Same one : no what are you
Qibli: I said I am a Vigo
I generally thought the ending was like: "Omg evil defeated silkwings got democracy everyone lived happily ever after lol Wings of fire over!"
Why did book 15 get such a mushy ending?
Btw Cyprus best youtuber ever. It is undenniable.
Agree
Dusky is the highlight of book 15
(In Tui's defense, this seemed like a really hard scrape to get out of.)
One thing I was frustrated with was the humans.
Agreed! Like what even happened to wasp? HELLO! Important character here just disappearing into the background.
Yep
I can’t listen, just because I haven’t made it this far; but I am still watching the speed paint. I love your art, keep doing it!! You’re so good!!
I think it was good for Freedom to die. Like Cyprus said, the story needs risk and sacrifice. I think this was the perfect way for that to happen
@@chestnutstudios9690 agree to disagree
Amazing art Cyprus! I liked book 15, but I'm sad that it is probably the last Wings of Fire book.
YOUR ART IS SO GOOD I WISH I COULD DRAW LIKE THAT
The amount of confusion I had when Cottonmouth and Freedom were explaining the flashbacks, mindscape and Othermind was unreal- like seriously younger kids read this series, so if I had a hard time understanding that HOW are they?! Also am I the only one who NEEDS to know what kind of hybrid Freedom was because like WHAT-
Ok I’m not done-
My problems with this book are:
It was NOT long enough.
YES! You’ve summed up my thoughts about this book perfectly!
Anyway, to answer your "how did they get to Pantala?" question, from what I remember -
Cottonmouth (along with a handful of other humans from Pyrrhia) got on a raft and literally SAILED to Pantala.
Not gonna lie, FoH just felt like a really strange fever dream
And yes, I too am a huge sucker for lore and backstories.
I'm actually working on rewriting the Flames of Hope with more excitement for a project. Not, like, a huge amount, but a bit
Cyprus, i love you way of drawing, its so cute and chibi yet so detailed! thank you for being so dedicated. your drawings make me smile
I completely agree with you about sky. He was a bit of a clash with the entire mood of the book. Also I love your commentary, this is the first video I’ve watched and I really like it! Keep up the good work!
here's the thing with the scorching:
How exactly did the need to kill humans.
“The eldritch horror of the Breath of Evil is now just some salty guy in a cave” PFFFT 😭
hi fellow flashback nerd. I love flashbacks I thought I was alone because every friend I ask think I am crazy
So, thanks for coming to me Ted-talk, tell me I guess if you disagree with some of things listed, I love watching people argue
(Also I really liked Freedom/Lizard, found her the way she should be)
I really like your art style, it's super cute, and you're super good at drawing.
Ooh I love how you drew Luna! I usually draw her with a paler purple.
Me: *listens to spoiler alert. Also me: “I shall stay.”
Eeeeeee ty for showing my fan art cypress!
Its-its cancelled.
The show is cancelled.
*Sob*
I would have three ideas, what you could make for your next video (only if you want of cause):
1. drawing evil main characters
2. what-if evil Glory, based on LampP0st's Evil Glory AU, cause it's good, but it misses some important stuff
I just want to point out that the way Tui showed how Luna views the wold (as a tapistry) was so cool and I loved it.
It wasnt bad, but it wasnt as good as it could be
So no one’s gon talk about the “high” joke
I HAVE BEEN WAITING TO LONG AND IM EXCITTEDD
I love the memory of young Moon! It's interesting, the names of the moons.
I liked the way they wrote Luna's mental health, but other than that she was kind of a boring protagonist. I feel like the book should have switched pov's around instead of just having one, it would have given more insight on what was happening outside of the weird mindspace. Idk.
I SO AGREE WITH YOU on like Everything!!!! Also I LOVE the drawing of Luna you did, its do pretty!!
Your art is amazing and your videos are amazing I would love to see the next episode of what if
Amazing video!
The art is beautiful, I love the pose and the eyes the most
The biggest turn for me was Cotton mouth- and Freedom. Like I NEVER expected the scorching to be connected
MY OPINION:
A lot of the stuff going on didn't really feel wings of fire-y, but it was a nice ending to the current series.
I agree wholeheartedly
I am glad there was a spoiler alert notice ‘cause I was about to watch 😬
Ack you're right that would have actually been a really awesome direction to take his character in :(( not me being sad over a missed opportunity now-
@@cyprusdraegon hey! If you'd like a suggestion, I have one for a what if for book 15.
'What if Luna saved lizard?'
just an idea, I’d really love to see it! And I loved the What if whiteout was an animus?
I also think the book was a bit weird. I did not really like the end, like, what happened to the pantalan dragons? It seemed as though they just disappeared from thin air.
Hey Cyprus I really love your videos and I hope you make even more in the future!
"History is written by the winners"
next gen: Cliff,Auklet,Peacemaker,Mink,Dusky,Bumblebee!
Beautiful piece and love your thoughts!
PREACH! Love your art btw.
One of my fav part in the book right now was when I found out about Pineapple and Jambu. I really liked that scene.
I am surprised to see some of my own opinions replicated here. Thanks for the great video!
Y did it take me so long to finish the series!?!? I was halfway through the series when i saw this and it probably pushed me to read it faster. But it still took me forever. Anyway love ur art cyprus and cant wait to see more!!
OH MY GOSH!!! FINALLY, SOMEONE WITH THE EXACT FEELING I HAD ON THE BOOK!
Oppp I spelled Qibli wrong 😳
‘Tis gud, although can we just appreciate Dusky for a moment? Cutest child evah
I haven't read the book, but from what my friend told me, it is mainly flashback. I don't know if I'm going to finish the series, because I honestly didn't like the 3rd arc from what I read. I love all of the other books, but I kind of got lost at book 11.
(pls don't shame me on my opinion)
Book 15 was so good but i dislike how Luna and Dusky were stuck in the abyss for half the book. I also dislike how lizard/freedom acted, it was slightly to childish, but i understand. The scorching was so good. Qibli is awesome.
Queen's face's being melted off: 2! (I loved that part)
Didn't tui say umber and sora were doing back in book 14 or 15?????
Umber. UMBER. UMBER! I didn't even think about putting him in there instead of bullfrog, but now that you said it I can't get the idea out of my head!
And of course, Sky and Peril’s whole thing. )
Yes, scorching
I also laughed so hard during the part were u talked about bullfrog
About the Mudwing part, maybe if there is a fourth arc, umber or Sora will be a part of that. I heard that Tui might be planning on doing a fourth arc, and if she is planning on putting umber into that, then it would make sense to not include umber or Sora for the 3rd arc. It makes sense for there to be a fourth arc, and one of the hypothetical books would have a high chance of having a Mudwing protagonist.
In my opinion this book was amazing, I do hope there is a new book that is about what happened in the epilogue.
so this book is out
my friend said it wasnt
It would've been great to have Umber in the book, since he is a great character, in my opinion, and I'm happy that Tui is thinking of having him in the 4th arc, even though I'm worried how that 4th arc is going to turn out.
Hello! I was wondering out of the blue, what if Starflight was born under the 3 moons? I really hope you can do this, thanks!
im so exited to read the books me and my friend raced to the libary to get our hands on book eleven, he got there first but i but I borrowed another from a fellow class mate, we are obsessed
I also would love to know what Freedom and the others looked like at the Scorching-
It took me one 11 hour sitting cause’ it’s been soooo long since I’ve had a book that I both wanted to and had the time to just sit down and read.
I luv the Luna are and that little bit of flamesilk u put in was so cute! I totally agree on like everything u said about book 15.
Just as a suggestion do you think you could draw freedom
Cyprus: cottonmouth, sucks
Me: YASSS PREACH
*cries in 'delivery not available to your country'*
