Issues aside, I thought Tui did a great job describing the experience of having depression. How there are good days and bad; the feeling of being weighed down; the sense of shame and reluctance to confide in others. The plot was indeed a mess, but there were some sweet character moments, which is where Tui's writing is at it's strongest.

Fullmetell alchemist is a manga that was adapted into an anime twice. I honestly feel like the flames of hope is a situation where do-overs should be allowed. It’s difficult with running stories, because you have to change cannon, and new readers will be terriblely confused. But while I never did have a burning hatred of this book it just fails. It fails as a conclusion to arc 3, it fails as a character arc for luna, it fails almost every single one of its characters, it fails to validate the prophecy because the elite squad never needed ‘talons united, only a few of them actually made a tangible difference. it causes arc 3 to fail as setting up scavengers as important. It fails to fire chekovs’s gun of luna’s flamesilk, and even makes it especially important that she doesn’t use flamesilk in the final moments. It fails to close its open plotholes, our characters do their most impressive feats offscreen. Poor Tui. There were just way too many plot threads and characters for an endgame-etyle style story. To write book 5 in the way that she did she really NEEDED book 4 to advance the plot of the arc, and if she wanted to include her characters from other arcs doing cool and important things, they should have been doing those things from their own POV. This book needed to be about 3x longer and luna needed to actually fight some hivewings with her flamesilk at LEAST if we’re still including the plot that tui wrote in a way that was satisfying.
Seriously, the first few chapters of book 1 are a more thrilling and mysterious cave journey and ambush than almost this entire book, and the last few chapters of book 1 are a more asweome, impressive, thrilling and heartfelt evil queen take down than those few small moments, and book 1 also includes a not-so-evil-over powered killler self-reflection session. Aaand book 1 also had a jailbreak? The wasp scene alone is proof Tui is bringing at least 1 moment from book 1 on purpose, but without most of what made those moments special.
i have got to say this is the wings of fire book that i dislike the most. by far and i actually enjoyed book 7 and nine to a fair degree also please don't get mad at me for having a different opinion
I think I kinda don't like this book, but it mostly because 'my country problems.' Like, you know, they for first time changed the cover art and they cut some scenes with Jambu and Pineapple, so i can't see their dynamics anymore. And about new cover, it's style is so 'for kids,' for book with 18+ rating. I am sorry.
The only thing I liked was the gay couple, Pineapple and Jambu, really bland and was an absolute mess with 10 character, less than half actually having interesting screentime. Luna barely got any character development, except that she is now nice to HiveWings, goodness Luna is so annoying.
