I knew it'd stick about as long as when he called himself Snoop Lion. The Dogg has his weed, God's in his heaven and all is right with the world.
The "smudgy" textures you remember is a console variable (cvar) called "gl_texturemode"
This controls the filtering that textures have with two main options, "GL_NEAREST" and "GL_LINEAR" for nearest-neighbor (chunky pixels) and linear (blurry smudge).
There's also mipmap support, which can be enabled by appending "_MIPMAP_[NEAREST/LINEAR]" to the option.
The command will look like this: "gl_texturemode GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR" for texture filtering with mipmapping, but for max pixel chunk, just set gl_texturemode to GL_NEAREST
You don't really need those commands anymore. They have an option to toggle filtering right in the options menu, now.

Yup, it's uncommon, but it's real, and it isn't a grenade coming out of a nonexistent microscopic underbarrel *COUGH HL2 MP7 COUGH*. I kinda hope STALKER 2 has an MP5 grenade launcher attachment, because the devs happen to be fans of Half-Life (Gordon Freeman and Gaben easter egg in Shadow of Chernobyl) and because dat MP5 attachment real. It also needs more obscure weapon stuff, like the Bizon SMG (I think it does have it).
@BloodWraith777 I always assumed that the "grenade launcher" on the HL2 MP7 was a Combine addition, as was the more conventional reflex sight.
Of course, the issue then is that the Combine _never_ uses said grenade launcher, ever.
I'm not big on weapon names so I thought you said they put a grenade launcher in Mario Party 5.
@MarioSonic46 MP5 in this context stands for machine pistol 5.
Some hl mods were broken by the new update, mostly targeted at the cs 1.6 community which the majority uproar came from. It has been somewhat fixed as valve can fix things in a timely manner :)

I didn't play Half-Life as a kid, but I did watch the G-Man Squad as a kid. EDIT: ...and I say that because even though I've only recently played HL1 for the first time within the past 5 years as a adult, the character models and even the mp maps like Crossfire are fairly familiar to me. I've had a similar experience with the GTA games.

I checked out deathmatch as well and 90% of the servers were Crossfire and the server I played on had a guy saying the n-word... Or at least, I think he was. Kinda hard to hear over 30 people shooting guns.

I miss rats maps. Why has no indie dev ever released a multiplayer shooter that's literally all rats maps? You could have a lot of fun with that, make all the weapons be cobbled together from tiny household objects and such. Like a spike gun that's a toothpick holder that fires toothpicks, or an electric bread knife that functions as the obligatory chainsaw.
