- I went on a service call to replace a water pump on a John Deere 9430 for general maintenance. What happened after I started the engine with the new water pump still haunts my dreams! Check out all three parts!

With the first video of my channel, you will see what it is like to be a Master John Deere AG Technician. John Deere Technicians are the “Navy Seals” of the diesel world. John Deere makes the most technologically advanced machinery in the world and only the best can keep them running when the pressure is on. Technician’s have constant training to stay up to date on anything from power train, electrical, hydraulics, hvac, gps guidance systems, and more. Let’s face it - farming is essential and is never going away, so we need service technicians to keep farmers running. Hopefully my videos will attract young people into the Ag mechanic field. With shop, AG, and automotive classes being cut from high schools all across America, it is important to show the world what this job is and how exciting and rewarding it can be!
I don't know anything about tractors ( I grew up on a old fashioned dairy farm in Connecticut ) but your presentation is fantastic and compassionate.

I just did a new water pump in our 9530T. Never thought to check if the shaft was true. Maybe somebody dropped that one and put it in the box anyway. The whole point of changing it was to prevent this catastrophic failure. If that was my tractor I'd be very pissed.
Yeah that’s what we think happened. But Deere is paying for a brand new complete block assembly. So the customer is getting a brand new engine for the bad part.

@@ZKMasterTech good on JD for doing that. If I was the customer I would be angry at 1st but quietly happy to get a 0 hr motor for that cost.

Thank you. Jake is the reason why I started this channel. He had his own UA-cam channel that we were both working on and before he passed away he wanted me to pick up the torch and carry on. So I did. The goal was to get 1,000 subscribers and when your just starting out it's actually really hard to get and when I actually got 1,000 subs it was an emotional day for me. Then when I got 10,000 subs it was emotional because I wanted to share the moment with my best friend. He was like my brother. We worked together every day. Road back and forth to work together most days. I miss him very much. So I dedicated this first episode to him.

My neighbor bought a 9600 combine. During harvest the unloading turret failed. Then the water pump was replaced the water pump shaft broke which caused the block to crack. After that a tornado took out the combine. Now how can a combine be so unlucky?

As a non-farmer myself, your channel is fascinating and a tribute to great mechanics and the big machines that feed this world. Also, Snap-On and Milwaukee, but that’s another topic entirely. They also make me wonder about what small part on my little John Deere garden tractor is going to catastrophically break and take the whole thing with it. Apples and oranges, I realize, but deep down, you’ve got me asking “what if…?” about that Cub Cadet I didn’t buy. Oh, well, there are grass clippings to harvest and my Deere is the machine for the job. I’ll just keep up on the maintenance schedule and cross my fingers.
Your job working on giant machines already stresses me out. So that music doesn’t help my panic level 😆

I like the Si-fi music / sounds you put over the video and photos of the 8rx. Lol! Iam not in the Ag business in any way, but man I really like those 8RXs... surprised no one else is really competing in that size and form factor tractor, being all track at that size, and not being an articulate. So cool!
I've had a time-gear issue twice like this ...once on the coldest day of winter shortly after warmup and once in the heat of summer under heavy load. I suspect temperature/temperature changes (i.e. Shock) has a lot to do with it.

You mean to tell me John Deere can’t make their water pumps with out factory defects ? Do they out source their parts over seas ? One defect takes out an engine . that’s unacceptable.
Yes, as with all big corporations, they source the cheapest parts possible.

Enjoy your videos. How long to comfortably change the thermostats and how long would it honestly take you to change out that water pump ? Not including time to drain or refill coolant

I would never reuse an old oil cooler that had metal going thru the system. Cheaper to just replace

What were the symptoms for changing water pump at customers shop? Was the crank case full of water? Was it leaking out the weep hole? What was wrong?
We change the water pumps on those tractors at 1500 hrs for preventative maintenance because the water pumps can go out and the bearings go into the timing gears.
Water pump failure is a common problem on this model of Deere 4 wd. As stated the bearing can go into the timing gears. Although the new water pump is supposed to have a cage to prevent that from happening, when it goes bad, it goes *really bad* and you're talking tens of thousands
Wow, that's one expensive way to incorrectly install a water pump....

Exact same situation. Just out of high school the IH dealership wanted me pretty bad. For some reason I thought it was below me. Here I am reconsidering my life choices. LOL.

@@mikezahnow1605 You have a solid 10 years on me. I find myself poking around in different industries more and more often. Trying to figure out if I would enjoy it. Doesn't help that I've turned anti corporate in a huge way. LOL.
@@ShainAndrews yes the corporate web. I work for one and its not the same as a ma and pa shop. Problem is that they pay so darn good its hard to leave, kinda like a spider web they got you in. But it still sucks lol.

Find the engineers that designed it and make them pay for it. Never had a problem with a belt driven water pump destroying an engine unless you ran it without the belt. I’ll stick with my “old” technology.

Anybody else notice small scene of a thread chaser on water pump install? Maybe someone snugged that pump up too fast. Ripped threads. We all make mistakes.
There was too much dried thread sealer in the hole.

Why the water pump has to be connected with gears in the timing setup? water pump doesn't have to sync with anything, and it is the cheapest part, compared to a cam, crank shaft, etc. Please somebody who knows tell me why

John deere 9430 engine passing lubricating oil to the water tank we have already touched the heat exchanger radiator the gaskets and the water pump what can it be?

It is either the oil cooler or the head gasket.
But wouldn't the gasket be water for lubricating oil?
@@ranielferreiradossantos3103 head gasket is most common problem with getting engine oil in your coolant tank. Oil cross contaminate from the oil port to the coolant port on the block. Pull the head bolts between 1 & 2 and 5&6 and see if they have oil and coolant on them.
@@ZKMasterTech So is it a factory defect? Just changing the head gasket will do the trick.

The injector.
@@ZKMasterTech cool... I've never seen a injector like that on a car diesel engine, I guess industrial and automotive engines have differences, size aside...

@@ImNotADeeJay the rocker arm pushes down on the injector to create high pressure then there is an electronic valve that opens and fires the injector. The spring works just like a valve spring.
I’m really disappointing because I always think John Deere it was one of the best tractors ever but looking up all these travels they have I’m thinking if it’s because everything is made in China or if it’s because companies nowadays don’t look for a reputation name they only look for 💵

As a new suscriber I find it very concerning that a lot of these tractors you work on are not that old and have very serious issues which would really make me think twice about purchasing a John Deere. Piece of scrap IMO.
All brands break. Because he is a Deere Tech, he shows what he works on. You have no way of knowing how many tractors are under the care of the dealership.
He is literally a tech, you want him to show you non broken tractors?
It don't matter what kind it is all the newest
What concerns me is how difficult they are to work on, and how JD probably locks the owners out of their software or make it very expensive to get diagnostic equipment and software. These machines will likely have like a max of 20 to 25 year life before they are unserviceable due to lack of spares, software, diagnostic equipment, personnel who know how to work on them, or just too costly in labor time to be worth fixing.

Was going to tell you don’t care for that evil music and Mahindra is looking better all the time . We didn’t have that problem with water pumps when they were belt driven
This has only happened one time out of hundreds.
But hundreds of times over the years these stupid gear driven water pumps have leaked coolant into the oil on JD engines.
@@kevintevelde2819 that's true. That's why I was there to replace it. We replace them every 1500 hrs for preventative maintenance.
@@kevintevelde2819 Hello Kevin TeVelde: After my second engine on a JD 4WD tractor getting destroyed because of Mother Deere's faulty water pump bearing, I had enough & changed "colours" this past fall. I can't afford a third engine getting destroyed because of a faulty design.

Umm, get a price estimate to the customer?! If that estimate isn’t zero dollars you should be ashamed of yourselves.
It was only to pay for upgrades / or other stuff that needed fixed not related to the engine damage.
I can’t believe these have this many problems. KOMATSU YELLOW IRON HAVE 1/3 of the problems these do and there abused alot more
