He really embodied the suspense of this show. I used to watch as pre-teen/teen in the 80s in my native Brazil and was fascinated by it. Palance was really captivating, when he spoke I couldn't blink.
Dude, thanks for posting this up. I used to love this show as a 5-6 year old even though Jack Palance scared the shit out of me. Strangely, I only just now thought of hitting up UA-cam for random old Palance-era Ripleys segments, and one of the few segments I actually remember (conceptually if not exactly) was the 'Santa Claus on the $3 bill' segment....and blow me down, here it is; first one I've watched, and first time I've seen this show in over 35 years.
I remember this episode as a 6 year old kid, I loved how Palance delivered his lines in this show, it was factual but also subjective as he was stating facts while seeming like he was asking you a question; a question of, do you believe it, or not?
Jack Palance got "Ripley's Believe It or Not", Robert Stack got "America's Most Wanted"... I suspect they may have though these were a step down in their careers, but these throwaway shows really did bring these legends to a new generation! I grew up watching eagerly awaiting "Ripley's" every week and was captivated by Jack Palance! As I grew older I was made a point of checking out his film work... "Sudden Fear"and his remarkable turn as Dracula later on!
Robert Stack got UNSOLVED MYSTERIES, not America's Most Wanted. Robert Stack hosted UNSOLVED MYSTERIES. John Walsh, who isn't an actor, hosted America's Most Wanted.
Watch "Requiem For a Heavyweight", a 1956 movie written by and directed by Rod Sterling of "Twighlight Zone" fame. Palance plays a fighter kinda like "Rocky" today. Only 1956 version. IMHO, this was Palance's best drama role. City Slickers was his best comedic role.
I believe when this episode was aired - in the 70s and 80s-, people of my country were more used to seing usd 100 bills than in the US itself. And that was mainly for own saving purposes. We still the first holders of US dollar bills per capita in the World outside its emitioner country.
Now when someone tells you it's as fake as a 3 dollar bill, you can laugh at them and tell them there was a three dollar bill. Better yet, make a bar bet about it.
Actually, my mom used to say "as queer as a three dollar bill" or was it "a four dollar bill"...but that isn't pc...or is it? Some people like to use it as some sort of n-word for the alphabet people, a word only they can use.
Hahahahaha, me too. In Spanish sentence is "Although you ............ don't believe it". (Aunque usted ... no lo crea). Leterally "Believe or not" is. Créalo ó no.
Oh yeah found this a few months ago on UA-cam i use to watch this TV show program in my childhood years juvenile to my teenage years by 1 8 years old i don't remember it being still on public tv i think it was reruns !
In Spanish the classic sentence translate is *"Although you ..... don't believe it"* . (Aunque usted ... no lo crea). Leterally the sentence "Believe or not" should be *Créalo ó no* . Actually the man who dis this traslation lives in the lovely town of Santiago Chile, very far from the US, but he remember very well early '80s TV show by night in his country. Believe it ... or not.
As a kid, I was always slightly scared watching Ripley's because of Jack Palance. A perfectly innocuous subject matter suddenly becomes a little frightening with his sinister demeanor.
Is where you find the president Woodrow Wilson $100,000 public legal tender note ! I myself never knew it existed until the year 2010 or 2011 when i had my first mobile phone from at&t network account and Samsung phone the Samsung mythic with the buitl in mobile TV subscription $9.99 each month !
I learned the presidents on cash from Too $horts "Money in the Ghetto" "Money baby that's all I do, that's how i know thomas Jefferson is on the two...."
Anyways you can find this in Duval county on 800 waters street downtown i post from the location its also posted on my periscope account and Twitter account Instagram account and ive broadcasted on my liveme account and alive account ! And my kik account ! Yeah i post every time i go there walking down 800 waters street to that address ! Downtown Duval county !

Such an intense speaker no matter what he's saying
Jack Palance walking ASMR
Even when discussing history, Jack Palance sounds sinister - just listen to the way he says "Dollah Bell"!
never has anyone said Santa Claus with such intensity before RIP jack
The last one was the best and most fun!

Mr Palance was perfect for this show
TRUE INDEED.
Jack Palance got "Ripley's Believe It or Not", Robert Stack got "America's Most Wanted"... The Best Ripleys!
Best voice of all time.No question
You need to listen the brazilian voice of Jack Palance.
not dan lafontaine?
Palance was a man’s man. That man didn’t just play tough, he could kick the shit out of you. He was a professional boxer who won 12 fights.
@Electric Eye Slide no wonder he did those one arm push ups during the Oscars !😃💪. Eat your heart out Sylvester Stallone !😅.

@@DrMarianusYup, seen them, he was terrific wasn’t he!
Back then, the hundred dollar bill was probably a rarity, but in today's world every body knows about the Benjamin's!
Back then, a lot of folks used the Barter System of trading, now, not much Bartering a happnin'. Not in my corner o' the Planet, anyway.

Jack Palance, consummate showman!
I was waiting for teh end when he said "Believe it (breathing) or not!"... and it didn't happen :(
Hahahahaha, me too. In Spanish sentence is "Although you ............ don't believe it". (Aunque usted ... no lo crea). Leterally "Believe or not" is. Créalo ó no.

Move aside Santa ,Trump is taking your place
In 2023 just to censor you and me UA-cam removes the comments section and then they'd laugh in Glee
