    Good luck with the rebuild, and agree with this, go for the full monty. 17 years ago I had the same thing with my Impreza Turbo, went for an all included blueprinted Prodrive STI engine. Now we are 100,000 miles further and I can still balance a coin on the inlet.....

    Bahnsport isn't that far away from me! Great great content 👏. I'm pleased for you that you are upgrading the engine. That car deserves Jon as an owner. Maybe get one of the lads to perhaps put some ppf over the front of the car just to keep it a bit fresher after all the track days you'll be doing? Maybe get the windscreen done too like the BMW? I'm looking forward to watching more content with all the Hartech upgrades 🙌. I'm sure that'll make Dan a little bit jealous 😉 😀

    Be interesting to see what this costs. I imagine 12k+ depending on the components used with some contingency fund for some extra bits!! Good luck. Cannot wait to see her back at Thruxton for an evening on the track.

    It’s good that something positive is coming out of it! I always feel better spending money if I’m getting an upgrade at the same time. Has it got an LSD? Worth looking at that for track use whilst the gearbox is out?

    Appreciate the video and dialoque with two intelligent guys that understand the 996 and solutions. Not what you typically see on YT. Looking forward to seeing the next video. Yeah, i have owned my 996 for 22 years and have tracked it over 20 of those years without engine faikure. Sound preventative procedures and parts are easy to do and work. But its inevitable, every porsche engine will someday need to be rebuilt. It will be good to see your parts and procedures list to see what you do and why. The 996 is too good of a car not to spend the money on. Glad you are rebuilding.

    Nice one Jon! Looks like you have a plan sorted and it looks to be in good hands.
    Are you going 3.7 or keeping it 3.4?
    You’re right about not wanting to use something immaculate on track. They do get hammered. 1 road mile is equivalent to 10 track miles as far as wear and tear goes. You can feel the forces and stresses going through a well driven car on track. It’s immense.
    Keep different cars for different uses. Keep it simple.
    Good luck with the rebuild and this should be a good (if expensive for you) series.
    I’ve even started watching the adverts to help you a bit. 😄

      Cool. The 3.7 adds more torque which is great for road use but it changes the characteristic of the motor so some people stay with the 3.4 which is nice and revvy. In your case for track use that’s fine. Good luck with the build. 👍🏻

    Great video John and glad you’ve got a way forward. Do they know what caused the bearing to spin? Is it symptom of potentially not as frequent oil changes/ not being warmed up properly/oil starvation or simply an ‘older’ engine? Just curious as also looking at 996s :) thank you

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Місяць тому +1

      No idea m8 it has fresh oil change before track day. Suspect it was oil starvation and wear.

    Setting alight to fifty quid notes like there's no tomorrow. Buy an ex-academy Caterham and do nothing other than occasional tyres. Even the bigger bhp versions don't need anything for track use and still use very cheap consumables.

    I'm so sorry for your misfortune it's a beautiful spec and colour and happy to hear your going to be rebuilding her I have a 2001 last of the c2 3.4 model that has the fried eggs but a few extra electric options available in the newer 3.6 model that I didn't expect to get in the first gen 996 bonnet boot release in electric and the seats also plus the heated option but it doesn't have a glove compartment or the limited upgrades that are available for the fiber optical entertainment system that is very useful for the daily drivers but not cheap and the original one is real easy to switch out and about anything you want to have will be a successful application but I have kept it for original look and feel that it will bring with time a more desirable and better resale than a modified parts but I hope that you can get your beautiful car back to the condition you are looking to get from her and many happy moments and miles in the near future

    Those old dated Porsche 996 engines are garbage & weak . Definitely not suited for track days especially with the awful weight distribution on those . Not a good mixture . Imagine selling a quite modern car with ceramic brakes blistering performance & superb balanced handling to keep a dinosaur that is worse in every single imaginable way 😂

      @@liamneale1831what’s untrue about it … please explain & before you do take off your rose tinted glasses… tracking a 20+ year old 996 which has never been a great car even when they were new is hardly a rocket science.. plus selling a modern fast carbon brake super handling car to track a dinosaur of a 996 is hardly a stroke of genius 🥱 Think before you speak
