    I just discovered this video. Thank you. You literally gave me hope to continue to discover my passion of becoming a lighting DJ. 😃 I have a number of DMX compatible lights , and a standard 192 controller, ( but I need a 32 channel over the 16, due to my expensive chauvet gigbar2, to master full control). But I REALLY wanted to have an 8 strip display to play around with. And that is how I discovered your channel.
    I have done a number of DJ gigs , and I discovered that good lighting with music makes the crowd happy.... And we all need more of that in this world!
    Gosh, I ramble don't I? Just thank you and God Bless.

    Super helpful! Are the channels pre set in the decoder or did your software determine the function of the channel? Basically what I'm asking is, are channels 1-4 always going to be red, green, blue, white or did your software do that? I'd like to know if I'd be able to accomplish the same result with a standard hardware controller or my USB to dmx interface that is controller by my DAW.

    First off - thanks so much for this really informative video. It is inspiring me to think about adding some lighting strip features at my church, and I want to be sure I use compatible components.
    Now I noticed that your preferred LED strips are 24V, but the "second option" LED strips are rated at only 12V.
    Now the DMX decoder will handle anywhere from 5-24V, and I think the DMX decoder will use whatever input voltage you give it. You connected it to a 12V power supply.
    * Have you had any issues using the prescribed 12V P/S to power the prescribed (first option) 24V LED strips? If the converter's output to the LEDs is only 12V, wouldn't the LEDs give off less light, at only half their rated voltage?
    * Or; if the decoder's output to the LEDs is actually 24V, then would using the "second option" (12V) LED strips risk overheating or blowing out all the LEDs?
    Is this safe?
    Did I miss something somewhere along the line?
    Are LED strips rated at 12V/24V really all that interchangeable?
    If not, what would you change in the rest of the configuration if someone has already purchased a boatload of 12V LED strips?
    Thanks!

      Hemet Assembly hey, I’m Nick! I’m a professional lighting director and programmer. I’ve used that console before. It’s really cheap for a lighting console, but if your light rig is pretty simple, I think it could get the job done. But if you have multiple fixture types, I’d recommend a different console like Obsidian Onyx (formerly Martin’s M-PC). It’s relatively inexpensive, but it’s a pro console, and it’ll stay with you through every stage of your light rig. Also, if you don’t believe me, these guys use that console for their church. 😉

    Thanks. Your videos have really helped us in our churches transformation journey

    • @roneysmathews9993
      @roneysmathews9993 3 роки тому +1

      Figured out how to connect custom length RGBW LED strips together. However in my use case, I need to use 2 separate LED strips around our stage design which must be DMX controllable. These separate LED strips must be producing different colors from the computer via DMX. Does that mean that I would need 2 separate power supplies and 2 separate DMX decoders? i.e One LED strip shows Green and the other strip shows White.
      Also the DMX decoder that you recommended is not available in Canada. Are there any alternatives to that DMX converter that I can use with the same specs that you mentioned? What spec DMX converter specs are we looking at? Do we need 32 channels, 24V, 96 A?
      Thank you so much. Keep up the good work and God Bless!

    So I noticed that you are using a 12v power supply into a 24v DMX decoder, into 12v led strips? I'm using the same setup and having control issues (lights flickering and as I increase the intensity of the strip it gets worse) I'm wondering if I'm just going to long on my strip (16f) or if the voltage discrepancy is the issue.

    Great video, if you don’t use the entire strip and cut it, can you still use the excess piece that you cut ? If so how do you wire ?

    • @WorshipLeaderHangout
      @WorshipLeaderHangout  4 роки тому +2

      Yes. It’s basically a wiring harness clamp. Four or five pin depending on what LED tape you have. You can find them on amazon. Just be sure to cut the strip in the indicated areas on the tape. The cut spot is also where you clamp the wires.

    How did you connect the DMX module to your board? Did you go DMX out to the board, and then DMX out from the board to the in of end encoder? What if we've got an older light board with just a DMX out on it?

      I have the same question. I connected only 1 pair of V+ and V- but that doesn't even drive the display. The only thing I can think of is that due to the amount of current that the Decoder needs, they want to make sure that the overall diameter of the power cables is sufficient. But who knows for sure? And in the manual, they actually show 4 different power supplys with 4 wall plugs. confusing...

    • @richardeshom4985
      @richardeshom4985 3 роки тому +1

      (This reply not from WLH)
      Actually, the video host used two cables, so there were a total of four conductors each for V+ and V- between the power supply and the decoder.
      The DMX decoder box calls these 24V power inputs DC1+/DC1- through DC4+/DC4- (see the picture on the referenced decoder Amazon website), so the four pairs of DC input are a direct result of the DMX decoder box design.
      It is possible that the wire and connector count is due to amperage restrictions (current per conductor). Remember, there will be about five times as much electrical current at 24V as there was at 120V (or ten times as much current at 24V as at 240V), so you just need more wire (or bigger wire) to avoid frying the wires, which could melt the insulation, cause a short, throw a circuit breaker, interrupt a worship service, generate toxic fumes, start a fire, etc., all of which you would want to avoid.
      I recommend that you read the decoder manual for more detailed information, and consult your local electrical code to make sure that the wire gauge is satisfactory. But if four wires of a certain gauge are recommended, please use four wires. Please don't think you're doing any worthwhile ministry by burning down your church.
      Thanks!

    • @modellking
      @modellking 3 роки тому

      you need a different kind of encoder/decoder for this... we are working on a custom chip to decode DMX to a 6m pixel rgbw strip. there are solutions in the industry but they run very fast in their limitations. Pixel mapping is not really what DMX is for :/
      Most professional solutions use decoders that take video input.
