You have impacted the structural integrity of the truss by drilling in to it. As a event technician if I ever seen this I would condemn the truss as its not designed to be drilled through.
Can you create a video going more in depth about the function and purpose behind a lot of mechanics, including the decoder, board, and software? Please and thank you.
@@calebvazquez3396 Yeah man I did make it and realized I made a simple but important wiring mistake. I don't want to be misleading and confuse people so I pulled it until I re-shoot that section. It will be back up soon. Shoot me a DM on Instagram if you have any questions about the wiring.
Thank you! So like I said in this video I used keynote this time around 😬. Surprisingly it worked very well making the shapes but there is no way to design on scale. However, I typically hand draw ideas and eventually decide on exact measurements later in the process. As far as software, I’ve only used keynote and photoshop for stage design. But like I said, I rely more on my brain and old fashion pencil and paper. Hope that helps.
Hey man that’s a sweet set up how many DMX decoders did you use? I’m assuming with 16 Led strips you would use two of the decoders and 2 of the power supplies?
you could have just done eye bolts off the unistrut to chain or aircraft cable to a half coupler with an eyebolt on the truss - once you drill through that truss its worthless and the pre engineered rating is moot - unless you had an engineer sign off on this I would seriously rethink the rigging - again the lighting looks awesome though.
Hey! Thanks for this insight! It's helped me develop a plan for an install concept for a small and growing ministry. I was able to get almost all the way to the end of the project. The issue I'm running into, though, is that when operating standalone mode all colors work, all strips work, and even the macros built in to the decoder works perfectly. When using DMX signal, control is still present, however, it flashes and strobes as if there is an intermittent issue. I'm using 8 channels in 4ch mode, no terminator, and 8bit. Do you have any suggestions?
can you please do video about hazers which are good affordable hazers? my church is small and we have some people asthma has a hazer an effect on people with asthma or allergy? does the hazer needs to work the whole service or just an our before ?
Love the videos! About to do this at my church! This is weirdly specific but at 12:06 you are crimping/clamping the wires together. What is this called and is this what I would want to use if I wanted to connect this to a long cable run? Also, do you feel the need for diffusers on your lights? Mine will be about 20-25 feet from congregation. Wondering if it’s worth the extra $70 for a 10 pack. Thank you so much!!!
Love this design!!! We are planning on doing it in a few weeks. Question.... How many rolls of LED tape did you buy? If I'm mistaken I counted 18 different strips, does that mean 18 different rolls of tape?
Nice man that exciting. Send me a photo or two on Instagram when you get done. I probably used 16 strips. With the center section being 4’ and 5’ I can use one strip for two.
Hello- do you have a picture of this showing it without this video?. I'd like to to send to my team as we are trying to change our stage design. Thank you
Not sure what they’re using, but we’ve found that cat4/5/6 Ethernet cabling is great as it is perfectly colour coded, and even has the extra white wire if you have a white channel on the leds. (We just cut off the extra white wires)
I’m struggling in the video was just one led tape but if you use 8 leds how do you address every single led ? Or do you have just one Adresse for all leds?
This is non addressable tape, the 8 channel sets just means whatever leds are connected to each channel set will all be controlled the same. Addressable led strips are only 3 pin, 5v, gnd, and data, while these are 5 pin (12v, r, g, b, w)
sooo, drilling through the truss and hanging it with thread rod would be the hardest way to accomplish that, they make things for truss (and/or attachments that fit the trusses diameter) exactly to hang this way without drilling through it, much easier than drilling it.....anyways, your setup looks awesome, very creative!
Thanks Justin. This was another rigger and that’s how they did it at the time. Not sure how they do installs now. But thanks for the info. I’ll look into it for future projects
make sure the wires are thick enough for this though... and there is an upper limit for the distance the cables can go. Try keep the voltage as high as possible as long as possible. (The higher the ampere the thicker the cable and the more the voltage drops over distance. this drop is more significant at lower voltages.) Do not mess with high power / high voltage systems if you are unsure about what you are doing and ask an electrician if in doubt! You don't want a kid dead or a literal fire in your church!
We need to chat dude. We're in the middle of a sanctuary remodel and working through some lighting ideas. And I'm definitely limited on my knowledge here.
Truthfully if you wanted to do threaded Rod for hanging lighting you could have used unistrut as it’s made for suspension and interfacing with rod. What structure did you connect the threaded rod to? What was the connection method? I cannot stress this enough because I see a lot of people who are inspired by this design… please don’t EVER hang truss this way… this is a serious thing whenever hanging lighting or audio equipment in the air. I’m not trying to be hyper critical, it’s really just unsafe and very not correct. 😳😳
Oh no!!! You should not EVER drill intro truss to hang! There are so many legitimate ways to hang lighting truss and drilling is not one! Threaded rod is fine but the connection to the truss is not good. This voids any real rating of the truss. Chain and spansets would be the correct way to go!
Thank you! This was done by an “established AVL company” several years ago the same week that I installed this design and was addressed with them not to long after after someone else said basically what you did.
This may be the best “How-To” video i’ve ever watched 🙌🏿

thanks a lot! That "GLUE IT" is very undervalued lol

I want to learn do you have course or step by step guide
Can you review your church lighting
If u add some muzata led diffusion channels, it would look top knotch 😉
I wish I had back then. Future projects for sure.
Great videos!! Just curious if the cord from the decoder has to go into the dimmer box first or straight to the board/computer program?
Hey man that’s a sweet set up how many DMX decoders did you use? I’m assuming with 16 Led strips you would use two of the decoders and 2 of the power supplies?
looks awesome but one thing you might want to rethink is the drilling through truss and hanging in the way you have - huge liability issue

Are there any other DMX-Decoder for these LED-Stripes? Because Amazon won't deliver them to Switzerland.

This is a good idea. We use a water based haze fluid and only run the hazer 10 min prior to the service and turn it off at the start of the sermon.
