In the 1st century itself, churches were built by these seven communities who acted as One Church. Catholic, Orthodox, protestant differences came a lot after, during the 15th century.

Jews and Jewish writings existed centuries before Constantine. Constantine was King in the 3rd century AD. The gospels were written by the 1st century, which were then spread throughout the Christian world. Even before 3rd century there were bibles in Ethiopia, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Rome and Greece. Constantine only made Christianity the official religion of Rome. Look more into this Early Church Fathers, Acts of Thomas, and history of the Early Church before making conjuring up stories.

I am a Syrian Christian and we have a history since the past 2000 years of continuity of oriental church. We had Patriarchs who were from Mosul, and called Nasranis meaning from Nazareth, liturgy was read out in Aramaic the language that Jesus spoke.
In Aramaic because it was the lingua franca of the whole Area, all the way to the "stans".(Pakistan, Aghanistan.. etc). But there were other languages spoken there too, such as Syriac, Greek and Hebrew.

Even now, Christian pastors in India are using all kinds of magic tricks to convert people. Such a shameful practice. Christianity is not about doing fake magic tricks to attract people; it is about showing compassion and care. I learned this in my years of training at the Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. 6000 students applied, only 60 were selected, and I was 1 of 20 non-Christians accepted. So I feel honored. But I couldn't get into the Madras Medical College because Brahmins were and are discriminated against in Tamil Nadu. I graduated in 1970. Yes I'm old, haha! I'm a Hindu but I see why people abandon Hinduism: it has become a temple-oriented religion. You are ushered in and out of the presence of the deity in less than 30 seconds, unless you pay money to be given more respect and time. This kind of practice is self-destructive and sickens me. And too the contempt shown towards the Dalits, which I think is criminal. Whereas in Christianity, you are welcomed, made part of the community with care and mutual support. You are made to feel like you belong. But that said, Dalits are not accepted in most Churches in South India either.

We had a priest at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Winter Springs Florida for a short time, but he left due to the Pastor who was a man of the left. Father Xavier is an much more orthodox Catholic priest. He was originally from southern India. He told many of us that there had been numerous Catholic people in part of India for centuries ever since the the first century.
There were no Catholics in Southern in India in 1st centuary. Christians in southern India are mostly in Kerala and we were forced to join the catholic church because of the cruelty of the catholics in Europe especially the Portugese and the Cochin King. The pope made sure we lost many of our traditions, beliefs and liturgies. Its soo sad that now most of the syrian christians are becoming more catholic oriented forgetting their 2000 year old traditions.

The saints in Christ don't pray for us is a misnomer, please check revelation 8:3 - whose prayers are rising to God, and Hebrews 12:1 - who are the cloud of witnesses, and God is the God of all living, one never really dies, one only changes location. The whole church and body of Christ is praying not just for Christians but for all people to come to unity with God(theosis) in this life and the next. Do read the church fathers not just the Protestant fathers. The former were closer to the apostles and eye witnesses than the latter.
I hope entire India converts to path of Christ. He is the one and only god and no one else can replace him . May the christ our lord help us walk India into the path of light.

This lasted for thousands of years till the time foreign powers came in. How could foreign people so easily enslave the people here? Because only a small minority were enjoying everything here and others were treated worse than animals. Under foreign slavery majority of Indians were happy anc relived. Their new masters were far better than their own brothers.

Praise God for sending St. Thomas to Kerela S. India where Christianity came in first century. But in north India, the Christianity probably came through British and American missionaries starting 1800 AD. No wonder we have a large population to Christians in south as compared to north India. Thank God for the revival taking place in Punjab and other states, the Christianity is on the rise in north India as well.

Not sure about now, but those days a plane approaching landing to Madras would fly over the St. Thomas Mount. As regards Mylapore where the basilica is located, the name is derived from Mayil = Peacock and Pur = Place, city. "The place of the peacock." The "Pore" rhyming with "oar" is an anglicized version of Pur, pronounced not as in 'pure' but as in 'pool.' Tradition has it that St. Thomas arrived in Kerala in 56 CE but in reality that is myth. The Thomas tradition likely started in the third or fourth century. Anyhow, fast forward over a thousand years. When the Portuguese Catholics arrived in the late 15th century, they were horrified to discover the ancient Thomas Christianity that had flourished in India for a thousand years. They denounced it as a heresy and tried their best to eradicate it. They did succeed in establishing Catholic Churches in South India but never could destroy Thomas Christianity in South India. In Goa though, they brought an edition of the Spanish Inquisition and behaved as downright terrorists. They used sheer brutality to convert people to Catholicism. The centuries have passed, and Indians have forgiven the atrocities committed in Goa in God's name. Like in America, the various sects of Christianity coexist without attacking each other. Well, mostly! :)

Also when St. Thomas came to India there was a definite and Cristal clear guidance of our Lord Jesus Christ that St. Thomas was told by Jesus Christ to go to India. So Christianity is promised in the Bible in the Old Testament and the fulfillment of the Christianity is in the New Testament. So Christianity is not of time bound because Jesus Christ is not of time bound but of eternity to eternity.

Christianity is acceptant of other cultures but intolerant of other religions. It's patient with them but not tolerant. And the Brahmins certainly weren't tolerant of Apostle Thomas.

There is a tradition that St.Thoma travelled twice to India once through the land route via persia that is present day Iran and the King Gondoforas ruled somewhere near the present day Afganistan .His Second Journey was via the sea route to Malabar coast and he was martyred in his second journey

From the writings of Eusebius (Church historian and Bishop of Caesarea; 260 AD-339 AD) we know that Pantaenus travelled from Alexandria to the coast of Kerala in 190 AD and found a Christian community using the Gospel of Matthew. Similarly, Cosmas in 522 AD in his 'Indicopleustes' mentioned the presence of Christian communities on the Malabar coast. St.Ephrem (306AD-373 AD) mentions in his hymns the martyrdom of St. Thomas in India. Combined with all these historical data we have the rich traditions of St. Thomas Christian through which we can vouch for the missionary work of St. Thomas in Kerala. This Apostle of Yeshuah of Nazareth set foot in Kerala in 52 AD. He preached the Gospel to the natives and converted them and established 7 churches. Suffice it to say that St.Thomas Christians are proud of this history. These sites where the churches were established by the Apostle have been rebuilt over several times spanning two millenia . Unquestionably, there is a strong lineage that St.Thomas Christians of Kerala trace back to the first century and keep this faith thriving despite all persecutions and attempts to belittle it by pagan faiths.

Read "The Acts Of Thomas", {Easy to find},,,,,,,,,,,,It recalls a very different account , one of great compassion, miracles and wonders. It also gives the ancient Christian hymn, "The Hymn Of The Pearl", which Thomas sang when he was imprisoned.

Christian faith arrived in India in two batches. The middle eastern form arrived much earlier than the european format. The Portguese and Dutch were the first to introduce the more colorful method of worship. They brought the system of nuns and monks with them. The middle eastern format predominantly had married clergy. The Europeans favored the unmarried or celibate clergy. People may debate if or not St Thoma came to India, but they can not dispute the arrival of christians from the middle east. There was no big brahmin christian conflict then. It was the brahmin councils and elders that had first welcomed them after significant dialogue. Some even converted to christian faith. There was harmony, no competition, a culture of dialogue was encouraged by the brahmin councils. They were different, not the intolerant kind of today. Christianity became hated in India due to the cruel europeans. It still hated in many hindu circles becsuse the europeans had deliberately insulted hindu kings. It was not christianity the people hated but the arrogance of european ruling class. They converted the poor into their religion but never gave them equal status.
Christianity and Buddhism became hated in India because it was and is incompatible with the pagan Hindoo beliefs, not because of cruel europeans or cruel Indian buddhists. If Indian people abandon pagan Hindoo beliefs, there is no need for brahmin upper caste and they will lose their superiority. That is why the brahmins were in conflict and intolerant of christianity and buddhism - it made brahmins irrelevant. It took the brahmins a few centuries to systematically destroy Buddhism in India. That is why a completely buddhist India (during the time of emperor Ashoka) has reverted back to paganism (Hindoosim) today. The brahmins were unable to systematically destroy christianity in India, so now they spread lies about christianity (Goan inquisition, conversion of the poor) or resort to violence (killing Fr Stan Swamy, Manipur r@p3s).
@@party_posse Budhism is local or regional, Abrahamic ways are different, they will never be compatible in India, it is a middle east culture specific religion. Buddhism needed many more Gautama's. If you have competition you need strong leadership, Buddhists were almost leaderless at certain points. Hindu relgion took many concepts of Buddhism and reinvented itself, it made many Buddhists to embrace hindu religion. Let's us say, Hinduism accepted the brilliance of Buddhism and had to change in order to be acceptable. It could lose its folk to Buddhism. Even today many Hindus are tempted to join Buddhism! I am from ancient christian family but I am agnostic. I don't really respect the clergy all that much. No hate but no respect either. Pagan concepts are gaining renewed respectability, there is big merits to their world view. Now even Europe acknowledges their pagan roots, they understand Christianity as equal or inferior to their own pagan religion.

I am an Apostolic Christian , Thomas baptized according to Acts 2:38 because of Acts 4:12 ,and 13 . It was the Orthodox Christians that did him in , that's why the Catholics are becoming Apostolic Christians
I would like to know how closely the church community resembled the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Church. If the Thomas Christians were very much same as RC and Orthodox in its earliest forms this would help validate Catholics and orthodox liturgy and priestly life and help show Protestants are wrong re the Holy Eucharist and other tenants.
I am a st. Thomas Christian, we were and are Apostolic, now also exists as Oriental Catholic (Syrian Malabar Catholic, Syrian Malankara) and Orthodox community. Protestant church came when britian colonised India in 19 th century
We had and have Holy mass. ( Aramaic / Malayalam).We values and valued the tradition of Apostles(Thomas). We believe and believed in the real presence of christ in eucharist. We honored our Lady.
It may be an inconvenient truth ( which you can check for yourself ) but when the Portuguese went to India in the 15th century they were not pleased to find the churches that were already there.which were declared as heretical . Shamefully Franciscans ( St Francis was one of my spiritual heroes ) were involved in the Inquisition of the Syrian Church already present in south India . The Latin Mass was forced upon them . Many books were destroyed This is all a terrible shame because the heritage of st Thomas prior to the arrival of the Roman Catholic church may well have been really authentic Christianity . We can only hope that the priests involved in the Inquisition of the South Indian church took copies back to the Vatican library . ✝️🕊️

India was oppressed by it's own caste system. This was much worse than slavery. Also there was sati that burned women alive. Christians came and put an end to these oppression. Yet India is not fully free from it's destructive culture and old baggage.

The sati system was an honorable death chosen by the vanquished Hindus to prevent forced conversion to Islam(Abrahamic brother of Christianity) - it is Hindu reformist movement that eradicated Sati system NOT Christianity. Christianity in India is only interested in conversion, go and check Goan inquisition and the wanton destruction of Hindu culture by Portuguese Vultures - that is the true face of Christianity. Gondopherus was not a king in Kerala. He was the king of Gandhara a place now in modern turkey. St. Thomas initially went there as a bulider and from there came to Kerala in ship
Unfortunately, St. Thomas is remembered far too much as "Doubting Thomas." In reality, He did much good and accomplished a lot during His missionary work after the death of Jesus.
By denomination I am an Indian Orthodox Christian and Thanks yo St Thomas because of his visit to Kerala in 52 AD my Ancestors were enlightened and we became the followers of Christ.

An unexamined life is not worth living, St. Thomas questioned his belief, he was not hundred percent sure, no one is, when we are confronted with the eternal realities. Wanting to feel his master again through his senses, to touch and experience is a testament to his searching for reasons to believe, reason is not contradictory to faith, faith can become fortified by intellect. St. Thomas shows us the compassionate face of Christ whose side was pierced by a sword. Though it may be challenging to conclude the apostle came to what was part of fabled Bharat, the exemplary Christian communities in south India and their way of life, faith, charity, compassion bear ample testimony to the gospel preached by Christ's apostles and disciples. They act as the salt of the earth, accept everyone as their neighbour and practise the beatitudes, and that is their calling though they may fall occasionally. It is exhilarating to see them full of joy engaging themselves in many charitable and social work.

I wish you'd realize that it is all MYTH, about St. Thomas doing miracles in front of Brahmins and converting them. Like suspending water in air. But if you want to believe that myth, fine. Even now, Christian pastors in India are using all kinds of magic tricks to convert people. Such a shameful practice. Christianity is not about doing fake magic tricks to attract people; it is about showing compassion and care. I learned this in my years of training at the Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. 6000 students applied, only 60 were selected, and I was 1 of 20 non-Christians accepted. So I feel honored. But I couldn't get into the Madras Medical College because Brahmins were and are discriminated against in Tamil Nadu. I graduated in 1970. Yes I'm old, haha! I'm a Hindu but I see why people abandon Hinduism: it has become a temple-oriented religion. You are ushered in and out of the presence of the deity in less than 30 seconds, unless you pay money to be given more respect and time. This kind of practice is self-destructive and sickens me. And too the contempt shown towards the Dalits, which I think is criminal. Whereas in Christianity, you are welcomed, made part of the community with care and mutual support. You are made to feel like you belong. But that said, Dalits are not accepted in most Churches in South India either.
Jesus asked us to lay down our lives as a sacrifice but not take lives in the name of religion. An example St. Thomas followed.

Christians in southern India are mostly in Kerala and we were forced to join the catholic church because of the cruelty of the catholics in Europe especially the Portugese and the Cochin King. Thank God for St. Thomas, a true believer! He spread the message perfectly; all Christians after him seem to seek condemnation of other cultures rather than dialogue and a test of ideas. The Indians discovered so much about the world, they cannot be dismissed as 'demonic'. I can tell you that not only do chakras and what Indians discovered about the human body exist, but that these things were used by Christ to point the way back to Him.

The saints in Christ don't pray for us is a misnomer, please check revelation 8:3 - whose prayers are rising to God, and Hebrews 12:1 - who are the cloud of witnesses, and God is the God of all living, one never really dies, one only changes location.
The whole church and body of Christ is praying not just for Christians but for all people to come to unity with God(theosis) in this life and the next.
Do read the church fathers not just the Protestant fathers. The former were closer to the apostles and eye witnesses than the latter.

Not sure about now, but those days a plane approaching landing to Madras would fly over the St. Thomas Mount. As regards Mylapore where the basilica is located, the name is derived from Mayil = Peacock and Pur = Place, city. "The place of the peacock." The "Pore" rhyming with "oar" is an anglicized version of Pur, pronounced not as in 'pure' but as in 'pool.' Tradition has it that St. Thomas arrived in Kerala in 56 CE but in reality that is myth. The Thomas tradition likely started in the third or fourth century. Anyhow, fast forward over a thousand years. When the Portuguese Catholics arrived in the late 15th century, they were horrified to discover the ancient Thomas Christianity that had flourished in India for a thousand years. They denounced it as a heresy and tried their best to eradicate it. They did succeed in establishing Catholic Churches in South India but never could destroy Thomas Christianity in South India. In Goa though, they brought an edition of the Spanish Inquisition and behaved as downright terrorists. They used sheer brutality to convert people to Catholicism. The centuries have passed, and Indians have forgiven the atrocities committed in Goa in God's name. Like in America, the various sects of Christianity coexist without attacking each other. Well, mostly! :)

There is a tradition that St.Thoma travelled twice to India once through the land route via persia that is present day Iran and the King Gondoforas ruled somewhere near the present day Afganistan .His Second Journey was via the sea route to Malabar coast and he was martyred in his second journey

From the writings of Eusebius (Church historian and Bishop of Caesarea; 260 AD-339 AD) we know that Pantaenus travelled from Alexandria to the coast of Kerala in 190 AD and found a Christian community using the Gospel of Matthew. Similarly, Cosmas in 522 AD in his 'Indicopleustes' mentioned the presence of Christian communities on the Malabar coast. St.Ephrem (306AD-373 AD) mentions in his hymns the martyrdom of St. Thomas in India. Combined with all these historical data we have the rich traditions of St. Thomas Christian through which we can vouch for the missionary work of St. Thomas in Kerala. This Apostle of Yeshuah of Nazareth set foot in Kerala in 52 AD. He preached the Gospel to the natives and converted them and established 7 churches. Suffice it to say that St.Thomas Christians are proud of this history. These sites where the churches were established by the Apostle have been rebuilt over several times spanning two millenia . Unquestionably, there is a strong lineage that St.Thomas Christians of Kerala trace back to the first century and keep this faith thriving despite all persecutions and attempts to belittle it by pagan faiths.

Christian faith arrived in India in two batches. The middle eastern form arrived much earlier than the european format. The Portguese and Dutch were the first to introduce the more colorful method of worship. They brought the system of nuns and monks with them.
The middle eastern format predominantly had married clergy. The Europeans favored the unmarried or celibate clergy.
People may debate if or not St Thoma came to India, but they can not dispute the arrival of christians from the middle east. There was no big brahmin christian conflict then. It was the brahmin councils and elders that had first welcomed them after significant dialogue. Some even converted to christian faith. There was harmony, no competition, a culture of dialogue was encouraged by the brahmin councils. They were different, not the intolerant kind of today.
Christianity became hated in India due to the cruel europeans. It still hated in many hindu circles becsuse the europeans had deliberately insulted hindu kings. It was not christianity the people hated but the arrogance of european ruling class. They converted the poor into their religion but never gave them equal status.

Portuguese merchants damaged the name of Christianity by their cruelty sex scandal and priest's atrocities
Christianity and Buddhism became hated in India because it was and is incompatible with the pagan Hindoo beliefs, not because of cruel europeans or cruel Indian buddhists. If Indian people abandon pagan Hindoo beliefs, there is no need for brahmin upper caste and they will lose their superiority. That is why the brahmins were in conflict and intolerant of christianity and buddhism - it made brahmins irrelevant.
It took the brahmins a few centuries to systematically destroy Buddhism in India. That is why a completely buddhist India (during the time of emperor Ashoka) has reverted back to paganism (Hindoosim) today.
The brahmins were unable to systematically destroy christianity in India, so now they spread lies about christianity (Goan inquisition, conversion of the poor) or resort to violence (killing Fr Stan Swamy, Manipur r@p3s).

Buddhism needed many more Gautama's. If you have competition you need strong leadership, Buddhists were almost leaderless at certain points. Let's us say, Hinduism accepted the brilliance of Buddhism and had to change in order to be acceptable. It could lose its folk to Buddhism. Even today many Hindus are tempted to join Buddhism!
I am from ancient christian family but I am agnostic. I don't really respect the clergy all that much. No hate but no respect either.
Pagan concepts are gaining renewed respectability, there is big merits to their world view. Now even Europe acknowledges their pagan roots, they understand Christianity as equal or inferior to their own pagan religion.

I would like to know how closely the church community resembled the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Church. If the Thomas Christians were very much same as RC and Orthodox in its earliest forms this would help validate Catholics and orthodox liturgy and priestly life and help show Protestants are wrong re the Holy Eucharist and other tenants.
I am a st. Thomas Christian, we were and are Apostolic, now also exists as Oriental Catholic (Syrian Malabar Catholic, Syrian Malankara) and Orthodox community. Protestant church came when britian colonised India in 19 th century
We had and have Holy mass. ( Aramaic / Malayalam).We values and valued the tradition of Apostles(Thomas). We believe and believed in the real presence of christ in eucharist. We honored our Lady.

It may be an inconvenient truth ( which you can check for yourself ) but when the Portuguese went to India in the 15th century they were not pleased to find the churches that were already there.which were declared as heretical . Shamefully Franciscans ( St Francis was one of my spiritual heroes ) were involved in the Inquisition of the Syrian Church already present in south India . The Latin Mass was forced upon them . Many books were destroyed
This is all a terrible shame because the heritage of st Thomas prior to the arrival of the Roman Catholic church may well have been really authentic Christianity .
We can only hope that the priests involved in the Inquisition of the South Indian church took copies back to the Vatican library . ✝️🕊️

India was oppressed by it's own caste system. This was much worse than slavery. Also there was sati that burned women alive. Christians came and put an end to these oppression. Yet India is not fully free from it's destructive culture and old baggage.

The sati system was an honorable death chosen by the vanquished Hindus to prevent forced conversion to Islam(Abrahamic brother of Christianity) - it is Hindu reformist movement that eradicated Sati system NOT Christianity. So sati system has roots in Islam.
Christianity in India is only interested in conversion, go and check Goan inquisition and the wanton destruction of Hindu culture by Portuguese Vultures - that is the true face of Christianity. Chrislam has whitewashed past wherever it went through violence and destruction

Gondopherus was not a king in Kerala. He was the king of Gandhara a place now in modern turkey. St. Thomas initially went there as a bulider and from there came to Kerala in ship

Unfortunately, St. Thomas is remembered far too much as "Doubting Thomas." In reality, He did much good and accomplished a lot during His missionary work after the death of Jesus.
Not too many other religions do missionary work!!
