When Nibelsnarf charges at you with it mouth open, place a Large Bomb in front of its path - it will swallow the bomb , then the bomb will detonate. Momentarily giving you a chance for free hits.
@@MogreciousMaloneBe careful, they missed something important. If you try to get free hits after the bomb trick, Nibelsnarf can hit you with a massive counterattack. It’ll hit like a truck, so it’s really not worth it. Instead, after using the bomb, you can actually “fish” him to fully down him and get all those free hits. So after the bomb, when he’s struggling in the sand with his mouth open, sheath your weapon and run up to him. You’ll get a prompt to fish, choose that and you’ll fish him out of the sand and fully down him. Then spam your attack combos. Edit: You can also fish him after hitting him with a sonic bomb when he’s underground
yeah, old gen rathian is definitely much more annoying than in world and rise, mainly because a bunch of her moves have no windup and just come out instantly. her charge, tailspin and midair backflip all have no windup. a lot of monsters from the first 2 generations are like that, and they're all the worse for it. later monsters don't tend to have many instant attacks, only really having them from reused animations that have been around for a while. luckily, world updated the animations for returning monsters, so most instant attacks were removed. still, it means you'll have to suffer through them in this game. most of them aren't as bad with it as rathian, garuga and tigrex though. on an unrelated note, lavasioth is actually kinda good in this game. you won't fight him for a while, and it's not like he's the most memorable monster here either so don't expect a god tier fight, but he's actually fairly fun to fight here. no idea how they messed his fight up so bad in world, they basically took out everything that made him unique and replaced it with the most generic wyvern moveset imaginable when brought to world.
Gen ultimate was an amazing anniversary title, the literal devide between the old and new generations of mh, and the culmination of everything the old generation built up to
People really miss understood the purpose of gathering quests. If youre running low on, for example Potion materials, then go do the gathering quests for Unique Ferns, Abyssal Mushroom, etc etc Also, you can call your Palicoes to you by Signaling (Start (open menu) → X)

Just as I said you overcharged the great sword the funny edit came on haha. My very first ever style in this game was Aerial charge blade. I've since moved on and struggle to return to it now, but absolutely test them out in the arena and find good synergy. I found myself loving alchemy switch axe, there are some fun combos out there
A good greatsword set to invest in is the black armour. There is a version for low, high and G rank. The G rank version is all you need if you dont want to use mix sets or Ahtal Ka armour.
Yeah gotta love those PSP graphics. I have GU on the Switch and enjoying it. Gunlance has the rocket propelled skill here too. Should try Prowler and hunt as a palico. Breaking Gypceros head will stop his flashbang attack. I killed the Astalos and Gammoth on those quests cause why not? Hope you're looking forward to fighting Glavenous for his greatsword. Looks better on GU than World iirc. Nargacuga is my favorite monster, there's a double Nargacuga hunt that's fun. Though I don't think anything is more annoying than fighting 2 Kirin at the same time
Going from 5th gen to older gens is so much fun. At least egg quests arent like in 4U where the game spawns a boulder to block the route to camp so you have to go through 6 more zones just to deliver the egg. I only wish capcom would remaster 4U and 3U seeing as Nintendo is killing 3ds/wiiu online servers, because once april comes I'll have to bother getting the citra emulator if I want to play those games online again. Also don't forget to do the hub quests, they are technically scaled for multiplayer but are more than doable solo if you want, just takes like twice as long.
So I see you have chosen Valor Greatsword, welcome to the horde, we accept all brothers and sisters that follow the code of the Valorous. 1. Do not hit your allies 2. Do not interrupt your allies combos (Looking at you longsword users or S&S with Roundforce III) 3. Aim for everything below the neck 4. Never back down, never retreat, we are the first line, we are the last ones out the zone. 5. You may break 4 if you need to sharpen or heal.
Personal style recommendations: Valor and Aerial GS are pure destruction Valor CB when charged is the most fun you'll have smacking the A button in axe mode Striker DBs is beyblade and pneumatic drill simulator Aerial IG is buzzsaw simulator SnS with oils broke the weapon and gave you SHORYUKEN!!! And striker lance gave you enraged guard for very easy atk boost spamming
The nargacuga tail slam kind of has the same mechanic as Nergigante's crazy dive attack - both have spikes shoot out to the sides upon impact. So being next to the Narga's tail when he smashes it down, even if you avoid the tail itself, will still end up dealing damage to you.
I didnt get to witness any death defying moves from good ol Gypceros. If i had then that would 100% be in the video to further voice my disdain of fighting him again.
If you haven't, I recommend giving Aerial style a try, once I tried Aerial style Hammer for the first time I never went back. Also, while I've only played Gen Ult my brother told me, since he had played world, that the bow works super different in Gen Ult compared to World, so I suppose that's something to at least look into if you want to see something super different between the 2 games.

new gen hunters will never know the pain of having to pray to the 10 gods for a godcharm, or the ultragrind that was getting the skills you wanted on a Felyne, and tbh the world is better that way
I would recommend playing all styles for weapons that you are interested in because some weapons have amazing synergies with certain styles like Valor Greatsword, and Aerial Insect Glaive is better than one would think, so just play around with the styles and remember you can always change styles and weapons at your house. If you do not know how the styles work here is the basics. Guild: Has the most options for mechanics and attacking, its your basic monster hunter gameplay without big gimmicks (Like Aerial Hop or Adept Dodge) and you can even have 2 hunters arts. Striker: You have less possible attacks so it is harder to combo for some weapons however you have 3 hunters arts and I think you build up the gauge faster or something like that. Aerial: Your dodge roll becomes a hop, allowing you to jump off of monsters to do aerial attacks wherever you want to get at least 3 mounts a quest. Usually does not have too many combos and only gets a Single Hunters Art. Adept: If you dodge or block at the last possible second you look like a badass.... and other stuff probably idk. You only get 1 Hunters Art. I think it also gets less attacks than guild. Valor: You can hold sheathe to dodge attacks (As long as you are facing them) or to power up attacks to fill the Valor Gauge. Usually does not have many combos outside of Valor Mode, you enter Valor Mode by filling the gauge, Valor Mode gives you access to more attacks and other stuff probably, honestly worth it just for the sheathe dodge tbh. Still only gets 1 Hunter Art. Alchemy: Support Style, usually has the same (Or Worse) combos as Striker, also gets 3 Hunters Arts as well as a annoying to use (And not amazing unless you want to be the ultimate support HH) alchemy system that isn't even alchemy. Listen if you are going to use this, just look up a guide, or rethink your life choices. I need to rethink mine.
Something to note about valor style is that it works for all moves but you have to be facing the attack. It’s like a 180 degree dodge. If you are facing away you won’t dodge the attack. Edit: valor sheathe can dodge gypceros’ flash bang
You can train your Palicos in the top left corner of the farm and change their main focus so that they target big monsters above small ones, they also get their own skills as they level up, I have one that tells me where the big monsters are at the beginning of the quest and every few minutes afterwards.
