    My friend, I always look forward to your wonderful and informative videos. Please keep up the good work. The Alfetta has a place in my life and heart. As a teenager, i would visit car dealers and sit in these cars and dream of ownership. I have never owned one, but such is the nature of true love. It is a pity such a small number survive today. Alfa really succeeded many times with sexy styling, a special feeling of ownership, maybe one day I will find another Alfa love after the two Alfa love stories I have experienced so far.

    I do like the GTV. Seeing the steering wheel and clocks in the video took me back to my younger days. I never owned one, but friends did. It is hard now (UK perspective) to describe the "otherness" of Alfa on the 1970s and 80s. They were rare. They were "other". They were not just Fiats with a funny nose.
    I do like Italian cars and I know of Autodelta, but this model had passed me by completely. I was quite unaware there was such a thing.
    And as for 150bhp.... That was pretty good back then. This was not a heavy car. The (relatively) low gearing is, as you say, not a bad thing. It gives very usable middle gears and still offers some pick-up in top. Maximum speed is somehow overrated.
    Thanks for this video. More nostalgia..... Is it nostalgia if I didn't even know the model existed? Yes.... That dashboard is known to me. That makes it nostalgia.

    Interesting... and beautiful. And what's blowing my mind is that Autodelta was thinking about rallying at the same time they were investing hard in Formula 1 - 1979 was the year of it's return, after 38 years of absence. Too bad it wasn't sucessiful, the potencial for a good Group 4 car was there, even if thay wanted to go further to Group B. But... it didn't happen.

    • @Matteo_Licata
      @Matteo_Licata  3 роки тому +1

      Yes indeed. It amazes me how many things Autodelta did, given the few resources it had. The GTV had the pace to be a successful rally car… At least at national or european level. The later Group B cars would have outgunned Autodelta by a long shot, however

    In the US the company called Callaway, yeah the manufacturer of turbo Corvettes did a turbo version of the Alfa Romeo GTV and I believe it had a 2.5L V6 w/ fuel injection and an intercooler. Unknown fact about AutoDelta is in the early 80s they also tried to make a ceramic head for the diesel that was offered in the Alfetta model.

    The fact the cards left the factory "stock" and were modified down the road at Autodelta is one thing. There were also cars that left the factory stock, made it to Australia (RHD, which further complicated fitting the "kit") and then had the Autodelta supplied parts retrofitted by either Alfa Rome Australia or the Alfa dealer... These had a few regional variations to spec (like the brakes and wheels used....). And included some alfetta sedans. I've always been curious which if any of these contributed to the homologation numbers, and also whether anyone really kept track of the number of Alfettas that went straight from factory to Autodelta to be converted as opposed to the number of conversions shipped (installed in car or not) by Autodelta...

    • @Matteo_Licata
      @Matteo_Licata  3 роки тому

      I'm told 200 cars went straight to Autodelta, while the other 200 needed for homologation were transformed using the kits you mentioned. But there's no supporting evidence, so take it with one or two grains of salt!

    • @2gr33n
      @2gr33n 3 роки тому +2

      @@Matteo_Licata thanks for the info. So if 200 were "needed" beyond the Autodelta built cars, and my 2 counted (a John French Turbodelta and a sedan version, both "kits" actually fitted to cars in 1981 in Australia) it was an interesting "strategy" to reduce homologation costs. Especially as I doubt all 200 were ever fitted.
