WHY THE HELL DIDN'T TAMIYA MAKE THIS RC? Sierra RS Cosworth Project + MORE!

- It was an icon in its day, yet Tamiya never released an RC Sierra RS Cosworth. It's a strange one as Tamiya had the license and released a model kit version but never a 1/10th RC. Kyosho released a version back in the day and you never know, will we ever see a rerelease from them? One thing is for sure, it would be a popular one for all the vintage RC fans. Until that day you can still build your own one thanks to after-market offerings and a chassis of your choice. In this video, I finish off the body set as well as cover one or two other projects on the go at RCKicks.

I have Kyosho RS500 at work. In working condition, but with modern electronics and super-clued diff joints.
That pan car body is absolutely gorgeous 😍despite all the trouble getting this to fit. When done it will be so worth it!
Nice, i had the original Kyosho RS500 and it was a superb model.......in its day
I did wonder why the body didn't sit down enough at the back of the R5, until I remembered it isn't running a race spec motor. A race motor will have the wires lying down on top of the can, or attached to the end bell. You want to make sure there is clearance around the wires so they don't touch the body as the rear suspension moves as it will affect the handling. You also want to make sure the body floats on the body posts as the flex in the main chassis contributes to the way it generates grip.
My dad had 1/1 scale 3 door, nostalgia!
One of my fav RS looks, i loved watching them fly around the tracks on tv. I was tempted to use this as my racer for some iconic events, but i’ll need something i see better 😂
Looks great but I cant take my eyes off the moulding lines on the front wings. It's the only thing that's stopped me buying this shell. Great job.
Cosworth is nice! And yes, please leave those rims on it, they really work with that body. Cosworth is a real beauty. The Associated pancar body with the hole for for the brushless wiring. That's where the intercooler inlet is for the turbo. Could always get a plastic spoon cut the handle off sand the spoon portion to shape and now it's an inlet or just a fairing over the wires. The hole and the wires look fine.
Yes, I'm one of those people that made plastic spoon inlets and vents on my R/C gliders with electric motors and folding props. 🤪 I have watched this twice and now I have to go back and review the last video, Pan cars are a blind spot for me. And you mentioned changing the wheel base of your associated pan car. The width or length? You got a lot going on. Great content.
I like the idea on the intake part, I will see what I can do.
@@RCKickschannel I was kind of joking but I have turned spoons into intakes and vents. It can hide the "sin". But looks good open too. The things I have done to model rockets with yogurt cups......
Hi Gavin,i used the Tamiya lhd interior tray, but i had to widen it to fit,but the driver sits a bit too close to the door, but if peopledon't know the issue,so far nobody has noticed yet.Yoy've done a great job with yours.
i had the Michelin escort cozy as a kid .
So much fun would loved to see one done up with a big motor and a light kit .
Those wires look great, looks like an exhaust manifold imho 😮. The sapphire is gorgeous looking and i always loved it in the Texaco livery. Niiiiiiiiiiice one Gav
Thanks Mikey :)
Beautiful ! 1/2 way thru same body on XV-02 in Michelin Pilot Super slow on kits as I've gone crazy with 1/24 & 1/10 scale crawlers
Another great vid Gavin….love the cozzy!
Hello Gavin, why not doing a Gulf paintjob, that would be awesome - matches the blue from you cables! Texaco is awesome by the way. Way to go!!!
You need to make the kaliber version please
Did this in the mid-80’s with a Falcon chassis (hate the falcon body). Looked super cool.
One of my favourite iconic cars and a really nice job think I might get one and stick it on a tt02 chassis
I need to do a Manta Ray. Great stuff buddy.❤
I have one sitting in line Luke. :)
I’m glad I’m not the only one with a few unfinished projects laying around 😂
Who finishes his Tamiya King Cap earlier? Gavin or Glenn? 🤣
Heheheeh
Great colour
That Cosworth has the front clip of the 85-89 ford mustang GT or LX and the rear end of late 80's to mid 90's Ford Escort
Would like more restoration videos including how toos and what greases n lubes etc. Maybe some more shorts. Love the channel keep up the good work 😊
Looking awesome mate !!
I wish Tamiya would bring out the Sierra Cosworth again 🤔
They never made a Sierra. Kyosho did one on the Raider chassis.
@@GeeShocker yes your right, I remember having that one, i brought it second hand & if my memory serves me correctly it had slicks for tyres ?
@@shaunescarlett.1 yes, it had slick tires and chrome 5 spoke rims. It was my 2nd ever RC car after the Madcap. I sold it for a Tamiya F102 Tyrrell 019 Ford. Now i have enough parts to built one in mint condition one day.
Get some dark grey paracord and take out the inner strands and pull the outer webbing over the motor wires. It’s a cheap mod and will make those wires look like they were a part of an engine exhaust system.
The wheels look great. Nice build.
Can’t wait to see the 959 done…. ❤❤
Looks amazing Gavin, wheels are perfect mate. Kyosho obvs beat tamiya too it but the body is nowhere near as good as Tamiya one 😎👍👍
With the wires, maybe paint the exposed part silver to make them look like exhaust/headers?
Looks good and racey.
It's an l&l models shell, really nice apart from the casting line on the front wings, something tamiya excels at, no lines
Yes this is not as good as a Tamiya body set obviously as well as stick quality. That said I was really pleased with the printed rear wing and the body is worth building for sure if you like these cars.
Always loved the old Merkurs!
Shame it wasn't TRULY built to compete with BMW, like it was marketed. I believe if it was, it'd either have an emissions-controlled version of the Cosworth DOHC engine, or the 5.0L V-8 from the Mustang... especially since it shared chassis with the Mustang. But no... instead, it comes with either the Turbo 2.3L from the Mustang SVO--which was de-tuned to make the V-8's look better--or the 2.8L V-6. So-much for Ford having "better ideas"...!🙄
Looks great. Where can I get the body and wing for myself?
LandLModels have them.
Kyosho made the rs 500 , very fine handling car to .
where did u get the king cab from
I guess you could not decide which driver to pick on the rs500 so put both :)
In the USA these odd looking cars were known as the Merkur xr4ti.. a local car guy has 2 of these real cars in absolute mint condition with the turbocharged cosworth motor
No... it was the OHC 2.3L Turbo Mustang SVO "Pinto" engine it got in America, along with the 2.8L V-6. Somehow, Ford thought this was the was to equip the car to compete in BMW's market. So-much for them having "better" ideas...!🙄
Had the kyosho version in the early nineties
Hard to find now Craig unfortunately.
@@RCKickschannel as I remember they weren’t that good handling wise .
Cool build, not sure about the pearl though.
It doesn't really work on camera as it doesn't show up or it does but then looks OTT. In real life it looks more normal as you would expect on a real car.
hi , what nice model where can i buy this body ? i come from germany and i want this body
i have the kyoshu one 😊
The "fomula one" car is actualy a Ralt formula 2 car, used to have one many years ago
So what kind of wheels are those again.
MST adjustable rims.
It's Pearl Gavin it's pronounce "Pearl"
Amazing car pls send me the links for everything my friends birthday is coming up he’s such a great person would love to gift him this car as has one
Did the alloys on the Rc get bigger and smaller when you pulled them or just did I have that wow moment 😋
Gav with a ring light and close up... no mate. Just do your channel, it's great as it is.
Those are the cars that cheated at Bathurst in 1987 and were disqualified.
Having seen the actual car exported to America to compete in BMW's market, and knowing it shared chassis with the Mustang, I've always wondered: Why the HELL didn't they just put the 5.0L V-8 from the Mustang under the hood/bonnet?! Or import the Cosworth DOHC 2.3L, and offer it in both the Sierra AND the Mustang!? I would've LOVED to see a Series-II Mustang SVO with more power--and better handling--than the V-8 powered GT... but NOOOO!! Why? Partially because traditionalists felt it was best the best to keep the most-powerful engine in the Mustang a V-8! As for the other points... Well, so-much for Ford having "better" ideas.🙄
Damn, I wish I could get one of those bodies and wing. Anyone know where they are sold?
landlmodels for one.
@@RCKickschannel Cheers Gavin! Really appreciate it! I hope they ship to Canada.
200mm bodies fit perfect on the stock chassis, i did a few back in the day
