- For Carlos Santana's 75th birthday, I decided to tell a few short stories from my personal interactions with him. I really think they demonstrate his spirit and why he's still one of my true heroes after all these years! There will be a LOT of Santana stuff on this channel in the near future... enjoy!
ALSO: Here's a link to the song I mentioned in the video, 'One of These Days' from the Shaman album. That's me on lead vocals, except for the 'yeaaaaahh' which is Asdru Sierra from Ozomatli. The Ozo guys are also playing horns, percussion, bass, and wah wah guitar.
• One Of These Days
Santana was planting seeds. And he also reaped a harvest due to his mercy and kindness. What a great man indeed. Both of you.Cheers.
For over 45 years not a day would go by without me thinking about Carlos Santana guitar playing style and his powerful spiritual messages. My life long dream was to meet him in person to say thank you. For being a beacon of hope and true desire of me being a great guitar player. When I play the guitar on stage his spirit dominates my soul and performance I was truly obsessed with his tone and equipment and music In my life I know I spent over 20 thousand
dollars on Yamaha SG, PRS guitar, mega boogies, every album CD Santana concert tickets tee shirts and over 4 decades of practicing thousands of hours of Santana licks. I am sure you have already check out my 75 year birthday tribute on you tube for Carlos Santana. I am about to turn 60 years old. I ask myself all the time was it worth it and the answer is always YES. God bless you Carlos
Amazing!! I definitely relate to all of this.
I stopped in the middle to find One Of These Days. I appreciate you so much, love your effort and your music thank you to Carlos for helping you find your wings!
Thank you for your music and these wonderful stories. I fell in love with the man the summer of 1972, sitting next to a little speaker playing Samba Pa Ti at a roadside restaurant somewhere in Guatemala. I was there with a few Baha'i musicians. We had the privilege of traveling from place to place singing in any venue we could find for a few charmed months. We met KC when I think he was about 10 years old and we were invited for lunch at the home of his family. JB Echl, KC Porter and Santana, perfection.
"...Stop hiding behind guys like me..." WOW!! What a huge endorsement from a legendary icon!! That story gave me chills. I'm a huge Santana fan, and though I've never met the man, it appears from interviews that, as you say, his spirituality is very important to him. Looking forward to more Santana content!
JB is a gem of a human being.
Aw man!!
Love, LOve, LOVe, LOVE this!
I recently stumble upon one of your video and discovered your channel. I love the style ! You're a great storyteller !
Thanks for sharing all your wonderful stories interacting with Carlos. I can't wait to get to his concert in Vegas.
Great video JB and Happy Birthday wishes to Carlos Santana.
you are supremely right on the OG Santana lineup and then with Neal Schon ** they went up another bunch of notches---the THIRD album is a intense piece of music in a very intense time in USA history...the music is a forerunner to the electric Aghartha, Pangeaea, Dark Magus, mid - 70s Miles music and more....the Buddy Miles / Santana Live recording has elements too...
Oh man, just reading this raised my pulse a little. Santana III has so many stellar moments, and whatever possessed Carlos to work with another guitarist in the band, Schon did seem to push him to new heights. And you’re so right; the Buddy/Santana collab also hinted at much that was to come with Miles etc.
It’s another world, really. The dialog between rock and jazz was HEATED!
@@JB_Eckl *** wow totally on that JB... that original grupo by the Third album -had a mighty, mysterious kind of vibe - the percussionistas killed me and Mike Shrieve to me as a kid was a stone hipster, razor-sharp player. Their chemistry was gigantic. As soon as David B was gone- the chemistry was sundered.... That grainy cover folded out was revolutionaries staring out at the camera...A few truly GREAT bands have this organic DNA combined, as soon as one leaves it is severed...I have authored 2 books on Latin Rock and i will message you on Facebook-- Jim
I still remember the very first time I met my guitar hero George Lynch. I stood there speechless jaw dropped. George finally said "I was just like you are 2 weeks ago at meeting my favorite guitar player, Billy Gibbons at his birthday party"...
It snapped me out of the trance I was in and I had the eye opening realization that George was just like me. We ended up talking for hours about music and seeing the Christmas lights. My wife and I had a wonderful time just hanging out with him and his wife Danaci that night.
Yeah, that’s right! Everyone feels that way about somebody.
I love that the Reverend is Lynch’s favorite!
@@JB_Eckl I just saw a photo yesterday of George on stage tearing it up and Billy standing behind him looking on. I can just imagine what was going through George's mind.
Love your energy and the stories you share are amazing!
Carlos is my favorite guitarist and one of my favorite musicians of all time. I can’t wait for those future videos you mentioned 😄 Btw, you rock man! Thanks for amazing content! 😎🤟
This is super cool! Thank you so much for sharing with us!! Can’t wait for more.
Much appreciated!
Why am I just finding out about JB?! You are UA-cam's best kept secret! Your content is on another level. I'm looking forward to anything you put out. Thank you!
Man, thanks for the encouragement! Between full-time music production and family duties, I barely have a chance to upload! Hoping to do it a lot more soon.
I could listen to these stories all day long. Happy birthday to Carlos.
Great post. Thanks!
I already thought of a few doozies for future videos.
Wow!! What an excellent trip down memory lane! Keep’em coming!
⚓️ Thanks JB 😎
I'm so glad your experience with Carlos matches the impression that I've always had of him. I've seen Santana several times and one of those shows (early 90's) remains my favorite concert of all time. I just listened to One Of These Days. I'm sure I've heard the song before, but this time your excellent vocal really stood out. I'm so impressed! Cheers JB
Yeah I’ve been to some stellar shows over the years too. One time Chester’s organ playing was so hot, Carlos pretty much had him lead the whole show. It was like a gospel concert!
Thanks for the kind words about ‘One of These Days’; I think that song turned out really well. Good memories!
Had no idea you worked with Carlos! That’s amazing!
Definitely a HIGHLIGHT, haha.
JB, this was wonderful. I remember you telling me about the gift book once before but these stories are great. I have long admired and respected Carlos Santana for his musical skills and the sincerity he exudes, but your stories have elevated that admiration to genuine love for the man. I hope that one day, some young and up-coming musician will speak of you as you have spoken of Carlos Santana. Then you can tell him to get out front!
A lovely sentiment señor!
The meeting of two giants! Great story man!
Santana has been so influential to so many for such a long time. This is a great direction; to share your experiences and insight with such an inspiring musician. The basketball story made me smile.
Looking forward to it, JB.
Right on, thanks!!
This is incredible. Love your channel and stories.
So friggin dope! Those memories and projects are priceless...thanks for sharing them!
I didn't want this to stop, thank you for sharing and thank you for spreading happy
Great stuff, I'm going to have to go have a think about some of that!
You’ve passed this energy on generously in your life too. You’re an excellent encourager! Thank you to Carlos for being such a prince.
What a lovely thing to say Yosi!
⚓️ Thanks again JB 😄 I live in SF, just checked DIG INFINITY’s site ? next tour dates ? Thanks 🎸
We just played our first gig after 2 years of the COVID blues. It was a blast! We’ll play the Bat Area as soon as we get a chance!
Wow! What great, inspiring stories!
Thanks so much! More to come.
I can’t get over the guitar cake brosef. 😆
Well you know, baking is my life.
This is great JB. Pure magic
Thanks so much man! Still amazing to me that any of it happened.
Yes! More, please!
Careful what you ask for! Haha.
@@JB_Eckl Oh boy, bring it. Caravanserai, Welcome, and Lotus hit me in all the same ways, and cracked me wide open as a musician. What life gifts for you to have those moments with the maestro.
A truly magical period. There’s a lot to share! Glad you found the channel.
In your time working or playing with Santana , did you get a chance to work with Chepito Areas, the reason I ask is that the albums you mention is where Chepito had his greatest Influence abraxas for one is where Chepito came on board as a writer and it was album of the year, to this date there has never been anything like El Nicoya, the percussion is talking and answering back like nothing we've seen before or since that recording !
I was born right around the time Abraxas came out. I haven’t met most of the original band.
I am always blown away by the chemistry of that lineup; it’s on par with ANY of the greatest bands of all time. Chepito is one of a kind… I love talking to Karl Perazzo about him!
His fascination with the Baha’i faith might have led him to marry Cindy, a Baha’i.
