At least we’re getting it. Let’s compare that to another popular show that aired in 2022 on HBO and season three of that isn’t even beginning production until 2025. Something to keep in mind: The brother-in-law's book is cringe to us in part because we're adults and it's stating obvious facts.

      @TDeane 18 днів тому +39

      I agree, but the book isn't just stating obvious facts, he says some really idiotic (and incorrect) things ("What does camaraderie mean? Most linguists agree it comes from the Latin 'camera,' which means 'a device used to take a photograph'"). It's meant to be as ridiculous and full of aphorisms as the bible of Kier, but acting as a foil to it.

    • @chelronin7843
      @chelronin7843 4 дні тому +1

      @@TDeanehis brother isnt a bad dude tho so its actually teaching some good lessons even if it isnt totally correct.
      also, theres definitely a parallel between how his sister/brother in law are having a child, and the innies being “literal children”. marks brother is also teaching these “grown kids” so to speak. yet hes also in the midst of fatherhood himself, it feels like an intentional parallel here. its also ironic that he wants to be an accomplished writer, and hes actually making real change. hes starting a literal revolution in that work place, towards an arguably marginalized group of people.

      This happened to me too, and it was amazing and gratifying to see Lupa have the same experience! During this finale, water/tears poured down my face but I wasn't crying, if that makes sense. Some kind of nervous system thing, maybe? I kept saying 'This is SO GOOD, oh my god it's SO GOOD, I cannot believe this' as the tears flowed.
      The not-crying but tears pouring thing happened to me only once before, when I was in an art museum and some painting hit me straight to the core. A theory is that the wellness check is meant to be a test to see if the severance is holding. So the list is mostly generic crap mixed in with some unique true statements. The one about Radar sounds like weird pointless trivia until you realize what it's actually about. And the reason that the innie is supposed to "appreciate each fact equally" is because nothing should stand out to them. If they "appreciate" the true facts more than the generic ones, that would suggest that some memories are leaking through.

I actually think they managed to get season two out in an impressive amount of time considering they no longer had the benefits of shooting during Covid and the entire writer strike that felt like it lasted nearly a full year. I knew you guys were going to freak out with episode 9. It’s probably the best 40 minutes of television ever. They kept ratcheting up the tension with every episode and then this finale is jaw-dropping. So intense and stressful. The shock to the audience and to innie Helly as one of our favorite protagonists discovers that her outtie is one of the main antagonists and has undergone the severance to write a propaganda book to promote the procedure. This episode is a masterclass in television production. The way it was shot with the camera floating through scenes, the way it was edited - bouncing between the four characters in their own situations, and creating maximum tension throughout. Ive been sitting on this cliffhanger for 2 years, trying to imagine where it goes from here. Is Helena mostly going to be the villain in season 2? I suspect Mark’s sister is going to step forward as a more prominent character as she now knows that a lumen employee has infiltrated her home and Mark’s innie said his wife was alive. She’s not going to just brush off those two facts. I suggest you rewatch the end of episode 8 as Dylan is scrolling through the security computer commands before he selects “overtime continuum.” There are a bunch of additional program protocols that Lumen can execute. The names of those programs are concerning to say the least! Severance is one of the best series ever!

    The absolute cliffhanger. I've been waiting years for season 2, and rewatching this episode, the anger and triumph is still so fresh. Even with that limited time, not knowing what opportunities they had, they left with some important Ws

    Hello! I’m a huge severance fan & reactions like these have helped me get through this three year hiatus. This is one of the best ones I’ve seen thus far.
    Fun fact: during year one or two of the hiatus the writers strike was happening so we didn’t even know if we would get a season 2 at all 🙌🏽
    There’s a snippet & w full trailer of season 2 out & apparently the first 8 minutes are out (which I don’t plan on watching, I’ve waited this long I can wait a lil longer). But yeah I’m obsessed with this show.
    Helly is basically the same personality type on the inside as she is on the outside, she’s very stubborn, determined to get what she wants , bold, outspoken (except they’re fighting for opposite causes of course).
    Much like how Irv is a zealot on the inside for Kier, but on the outside he’s zealous about figuring out what’s going on with Lumon (I think he’s for sure been reset at some point) in the episode b4 this they show his outie grabbing a cup of coffee b4 he goes to paint the testing floor, his outie is purposely sacrificing sleep so that his innie will doze off & dream of what he (his outie) paints every night. Aw man there’s a lot to say about Irving

    Yeah this was one of your best. Waiting three years has been crazy. So many theories, Cobel might be the most interesting character to me. It does seem she’s a true believer in Kier but is not necessarily aligned with how Lumon operates in the present.

    The reasons why it took 3 years for season 2. They started shooting season 2 6 months after season 1 finale. They filmed 7 episodes before the writer's strike in 2023. After the strike, they started filming the last 3 episodes in 2024 and wrapped up shooting in May 2024. All was left is post production and marketing.

    I'm surprised you guys weren't surprised about Irvin's outtie like I was. His innie in the beginning of the show was loyal to Kier and a stickler to the rules, but his outtie was the complete opposite by trying to take down Lumon lol.

    • @matthewlennon6289
      @matthewlennon6289 18 днів тому +1

      I think his outtie’s military history mirrors his loyalty (assuming he and his dad both served), he probably was a vigilant rule follower outside too. Curious to learn more about his motives and objectives. Reminds me of how Helly on the inside is basically the same person but in a completely different context, still an uncompromising and determined person but a freedom fighter instead of a dictator 😂
