I think the point was that Gi-Hun is not a trash, who just got lucky and the Recruiter is not a dog, they are both there because they believe in what they do and willing to do everything for it.

In hindsight the bread and lottery game made sense. The recruiter is coping with himself and what he's done (to innocents including his father). He knows he's a dog, but he justifies to himself how the people he recruits and kills are scum. Why? Because they caused their situations themselves. Theyre all gamblers. The main character was a gambler in season 1. They all gambled themselves to rock bottom, but even at rock bottom, they continue to gamble (choosing the lottery over bread). This is his way of justifying to himself that these people are worthless and continue to ruin their lives, that they cannot be helped and that his recruitment is not just evil, but a mercy even. That is why he flips as well when trampling the bread. He hopes to be proven wrong but is frustrated by what he perceives to be proof of how they are all scum. He hates himself deep inside and when he is confronted with it his soul is exposed. It is why he was reckless and in the end, willing to die. He justifies the killings like this and manipulates himself to not feel guilty. That is the "Mask" he wears
I figured his outburst in the park was because of how fed up he was at the bottomless pit of greed human beings toss themselves into. In this case, choosing to gamble instead of eating.
spot on. though at the end of the day, deep down he knows it's not that simple, otherwise he wouldn't be trying to justify himself and negate his guilt.

Gong Yoo, the recruiter, did am amazing job acting as a villainous psychopath. The actor is normally known playing hero roles from what I've seen, but this was just so good hoe he looked creepy and evil which brought chills god damn
The dude didn't hand out any cards to those guys, he was literally just taking advantage of their mindsets and playing with them. He was a straight psychopath, that wasn't a game or part of it, he was just doing it for pleasure.
Gi hoon did explain though (in the end Russian roulette scene) what playing the game did to him. What he had to go through. A naturally soft hearted guy like that, it can be life changing trauma. Like a sexual assault victim I guess, the trauma will probably remain even if your attacker pays you 1 mil bucks as compensation. Gi hoon had to watch his friend die suffered the loss of his mom, watch seo byok die etc etc.
I think this episode was just to show what the recruiter did in his free time. He’s a psycho at heart and loves the thrill of the game. The bread and tickets is also a justification for him that the homeless people like the ones they kill in the squid game deserve it and their situation is a consequence of the choices they make
The bread and lottery scene can symbolize those who took the lottery will likely join the Squid Game (gambling their life) while those who took the bread wouldn't. So when Gong Yoo (the recruiter) was talking about his dad and ended up killing him, he was probably angry as well wondering why would his dad make such a stupid choice gambling his life for money. I mean 456 did the exact same thing in season 1.
I just take it the recruiter has a superiority complex since none of the homeless got taken into the game? Bro really wasted money on the lotto and food just to ruined it in front of their faces!
@@Renkencen exactly. He didn't give any of them any cards.. i think what he did at the park was just him having fun after work, to further show how demented he is and how much fun he has toying with the poor
Gong Yoo has never played this kind of character before so it was amazing to see, I really hope he gets a proper main role as a psychopath in the future!
You can literally see, that Gi-hun from beginning of S1 and S2 are two completely different people. I guess the whole point of bread and tickets scene in the park is the message, that in dire situations people in general would choose a chance to live a better life rather than die in poverty. Because bread will be eaten and you would be poor anyway. That's why almost everyone chose lottery tickets. Highlight is definitely Rock Paper Scissors and Russian Roulette. I guess he and detective will work together in order to stop the games.
I thought those beggars were lame for choosing the lottery ticket because of their gambling addiction. But I never thought of what you said. It's a great perspective. The recruiter was just exploiting their nature - to strive for a better future.
Yeah, I think the complexity of the Bread vs Lottery game is that the bread will be eaten and you'll be hungry again later, but it's a guarantee. Vs the lottery ticket is a chance at never being hungry or poor again, but it's not for certain. So it's a measure of how you take risks. Some ppl are more risk-averse and would go with the bread (with the bread you for sure get something of value; with the ticket, there's a high likelihood you''ll end up with nothing). I think the Recruiter wanted to punish them for choosing the lottery ticket and paints their choice as being greedy or irresponsible, but honestly it's a very calculated choice that any reasonable human could make. Just depends on how you view risks. His reaction was trash, but it was our first look at how unhinged he is. They did a good job.
12:06 i thought so too at the beginning but now looking back at it, i think he went there to prove to himself that people are indeed "trash" because he sees it, the way they'd pick a chance of relief with a ratio of one in a million over something much more important proves something right? People can't eat lottery but still they choose it and leave the rest up to hope and luck. It's personal because he thinks that where those values lies will always be in the dumpster.
23:25 my bro just hasn't been the same after being on the Train to Busan 😂 (borrowing this from another comment I read somewhere). Gong Yoo is a godly actor. The roulette scenes in this episode have been insane.

Gi-Hun WAS putting the traumatic experience behind him. He spent the money for new clothes and hair and even going to see her daughter and probably use the money to have the life he wanted with his family. BUT THE GAME STILL GOING. Thats what made him stop moving forward, knowing that even though the old man already died, they are still recruiting people for the cruel game. He didnt want to spent the blood money thinking the money shouldve been used to stop these people from toying with people lives.

Regarding the red hair; There's a mythological Korean demon who has red hair/horns that plays tricks on people. Dokkaebi. He also is a demon of vengeance on some iterations. Basically Batman of Korean lore :P
For those saying Mr. Kim knowingly sacrificed himself by not doing the "minus one" on the last round so he'd get disqualified, I think it's more than just that. Notice Woo-seok had Rock in both hands (which beats Scissors, but loses to Paper). So his draw was already set--wouldn't have made a difference which one he minused. But Mr. Kim had a choice--he had to make an active decision to either win (keep paper) or lose (keep scissors), knowing the outcome would almost certainly kill the loser. So I believe here he actively chose NOT to win, not just forfeited by inaction. I think it takes a lot more strength to actively give up the path to safety for your friend. So I applaud him for that. (Tho another part of me wonders if maybe he was just paralyzed by the decision and couldn't bring himself to make one. Because if he was really trying to ensure Woo-seok wins, he would've withdrawn the hand with paper. So idk, maybe he just froze and then paid the consequences.)
Even though the characters in this go through some insane amount of stress, I love how the three of you can get some laughs out of me. Seriously, the sense of humor is top notch 😂
In the end, the battle between Gi-hun and the recruiter is beautiful. It wasn't just a battle between two people but two systems that housed specific ideologies, morals, and philosophies. Shooting the other one and not playing the game would betray the system they so desperately believe in. This has been the show's concept since season 1, but as we can see, whether Gi-hun realizes it or not, he is starting to be closer to The Recruiter and The Frontman's System of beliefs more so than his own. All he needs is a little push. In the words of The Joker, "All it takes is one bad day. That's how close people are to becoming me. Just one bad day."
Gong Yoo oozes icon behavior. He was in only two episodes in the first season and was a fan fave. He came back, set the tone, and peaced out again leaving us GAGGING.
Did y'all know that the guy Gi-Hun paid to look for the recruiter is the same loan shark he owed money to back in season 1? It's interesting how their relationship changed since then aye

Best Gong Yoo performance ever, he NEEDS to do more crazy villain roles! The rest of the cast were killing it too, but he was just a step above, even over Lee Jung Jae.
The bread and tickets is also a justification for him that the homeless people like the ones they kill in the squid game deserve it and their situation is a consequence of the choices they make
10:37 THIS FUCKING EDITOR 🤣🤣
"The Idiot", from Kingdom HAHAHAHAHAAHHAH You did my boy dirty lol
The bread and lottery scene can symbolize those who took the lottery will likely join the Squid Game (gambling their life) while those who took the bread wouldn't. So when Gong Yoo (the recruiter) was talking about his dad and ended up killing him, he was probably angry as well wondering why would his dad make such a stupid choice gambling his life for money. I mean 456 did the exact same thing in season 1.
Basically they are testing to see if humanity is still trash.
or maybe when he saw his dad, he realized his dad was ‘trash’ like those other people that he viewed as trash.
@@Renkencen Yeah op kinda have a point i guess but he's also just an asshole because he just has so many screws loose in his head at this point
YESSSS SQUID GAME REACTIONS ARE BACKKKK!!!! So ready yall are my fav reactors
Gong Yoo has never played this kind of character before so it was amazing to see, I really hope he gets a proper main role as a psychopath in the future!
13:19 this is basically what he does in his free time💀😭😩
He's in it for the love of the game.❤
You can literally see, that Gi-hun from beginning of S1 and S2 are two completely different people.
I guess the whole point of bread and tickets scene in the park is the message, that in dire situations people in general would choose a chance to live a better life rather than die in poverty.
Because bread will be eaten and you would be poor anyway.
That's why almost everyone chose lottery tickets.
Highlight is definitely Rock Paper Scissors and Russian Roulette.
I guess he and detective will work together in order to stop the games.
And he still looks like a king
Yeah he looks so depressed now
I thought those beggars were lame for choosing the lottery ticket because of their gambling addiction.
@@RealityCheckGurl 100%
19:04 rock paper scissors minus one + bullet LMAO
12:06 i thought so too at the beginning but now looking back at it, i think he went there to prove to himself that people are indeed "trash" because he sees it, the way they'd pick a chance of relief with a ratio of one in a million over something much more important proves something right? People can't eat lottery but still they choose it and leave the rest up to hope and luck. It's personal because he thinks that where those values lies will always be in the dumpster.
16:16 this guy lupa really just jumping at anything bro 😭
The way he screams too! 😭💀

23:25 my bro just hasn't been the same after being on the Train to Busan 😂 (borrowing this from another comment I read somewhere). Gong Yoo is a godly actor. The roulette scenes in this episode have been insane.
frfr
sheera is so funny 😭 also I like that she pointed out things that no one noticed
At first I thought that biker’s girlfriend was only sweet-talking Jun-ho to get out of getting a ticket but turns out she meant what she said. I’m glad the guy literally left her for the streets.

This season WAS good !! i can’t wait to see the rest of yalls reactions it was GOOD asf !! 💜
Besides movie, Lupa is kind of golden boy for people. He makes people laugh, hype people up !!
We need these kind of people more but sadly exist very small numbers.
Having Lupa as a friend is blessed.
The recruiter stuck to his principles through and through he a real one stood on that shit
Been waiting on this one 🔥 (also, loving Sheera’s hair 😍)
Calm down buddy she ain’t letting u hit we will all have our turn soon tho

“Naaaahhh , I’m shitting. I’m shitting bro. I’m shitting.”😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

OMG I have never been this early!!! Love ur reaction! Hyped for this season of squid game!😆
I’m so so happy to be here! First show in a while that y’all are reacting to that I’ve actually seen! Thank you 3 for sitting down and reacting to this for us! Very excited to go on this journey with y’all! (I’m also really really excited for TLOU S2 reactions🫶🏼) hope everyone had a great holiday, sending all the best with lots of love!!❤️
2:43 “He’s in excellent shape” 😂
Regarding the red hair; There's a mythological Korean demon who has red hair/horns that plays tricks on people. Dokkaebi. He also is a demon of vengeance on some iterations. Basically Batman of Korean lore :P
신은 하나님뿐. 예수님 믿고 구원 받으세요.
I read that as him refusing to play the game entirely. He didn't "lose", he rejected the rules
nah bro who edited that card at 10:37 🤣🤣
I was actually confused if I had missed that scene🤦
I kept on wondering if I misremembered seeing that😂😂😂 took me a while to realize it was edited
It took me a sec to realize as well 😂😂
19:09 I'm crying 😂
ME TOO I CANT STOP LAUGHING OMGG AND SHEERA’SS STRAIGHT FACE IS KILLING ME 😭
Even though the characters in this go through some insane amount of stress, I love how the three of you can get some laughs out of me.
Gong Yoo was killing that budget, they had to off him! (Dude's a big deal over there)🤣🤣🤣
Did y'all know that the guy Gi-Hun paid to look for the recruiter is the same loan shark he owed money to back in season 1? It's interesting how their relationship changed since then aye
For the first time in Netflix history, Squid Game 2 hits #1 on the 12/28 FlixPatrol rankings in simultaneous all-kills in 93 countries within 2 days of release. Now we wonder how those skeptics will change their positions.
Such a great first episode back into the series! I just binge watched the series last night and can't wait to see all your reactions❤❤❤
My dude literally bought a love hotel and made it his base of operations
I binged the whole show with my mom just now, just to see this reaction!! WOW, we can't wait for the final part of the show. I loooove the comebacks and chemistry brought back from first games, symbolism is really strong in these shows!!
I got so locked in I even finished the whole season last night from episode 1 all the way to episode 7
Been waiting for you🙏🏽😭
"Why is Russian Roulette a thing?" Valid question.
@@11FBA11 yeah honestly, so many people are too willing to throw their lives away
Best Gong Yoo performance ever, he NEEDS to do more crazy villain roles! The rest of the cast were killing it too, but he was just a step above, even over Lee Jung Jae. I'm not even a huge fan of him, as I never could get into Goblin. I thought he was solid, but he's a freaking genius here holy S#!%
He's crushing the food because they CHOSE the very little chance of riches instead
That's cool but I'm still eating the crumbs.
X3MA killing it with the edits, as always.

The movie Roshi is referring to at 19:30 is Good Time if I’m not mistaken, great movie. Also I think it was done by A24
Didn’t expect any better for a Robert Pattinson movie. The movie was entertaining
Yea if I remember correctly it’s what made Matt reeves (the Batman director) want to cast Robert Pattinson as Batman
the goblin actor is just the goat, he can do any role amazing
Gong Yoo ruled the episode! 💀🗿👑
Goon yoo always doing justice to these type of characters, hes such a perfect actor for a psychopath, mysterious guy role bro hes just fits perfectly into those roles
Once they started playing Russian Roulette I knew he was cooked. Bro was only in the season 1 premiere, and he had to keep up the tradition by only being in the season 2 premiere.
And obviously Gi-Hun wasn’t going to die this soon considering he was in all the promotional material
Bruh, Lupa screaming when the Salesman pulled the trigger got me laughing.
This was an insanely good first episode! Not even on the island yet
Put some respect on Gong Yoo's name. Brilliant. That performance made my skin crawl
The acting in this episode is so sold 🎉🎉 Really set the record, so excited
2:29 I had that same reaction. 😂😂😂
Everytime I watch a show with serious drama, I subconsciously think there’s no way YBR gang could make a joke out this VERY SERIOUS MOMENT.
And without fail, after watching the most fucked up things, they are just cackling and joking away. And I be dying laughing EVERY SINGLE TIME. 😂😂😂 looking forward to seeing the rest of the reactions for this season and more.
