    Simplicity 5hp tiller from the '80's. Bought new and it's a beast. Forged tines.Thanks for the video. I didn't know how it was fastened. Came off with penetrating oil, a bar between the fins, and large channel locks. The ratchet rotor in the old one was worn allowing the ball bearings to fall out of place. I put some anti-seize on the new one.

    It looks like a rugged tiller. Good to see it being repaired. Of course, having the right tools makes the job successful. Thanks J K

    Nice job Jeff: I had a customer try to give me a box full of engine parts to put back together and I had to finally refuse to do it because so many parts were missing. Told him it would be cheaper to get another engine. Thanks for the video.

    Exactly the info I needed. The rewinder wouldn't work on my trash picked motor even after hours of tinkering. I compared my motor to a good one and realized my starter clutch turned too stiffly over the crankshaft and the rewind spring wasn't strong enough to overcome that. Wiped it out and applied a light coat of hi temp grease on the shaft, but left the ball bearings clean and dry so they can bounce around the right way. Your video confirmed I did the right thing and can put it back together. Thanks.

    dear jeff there is a wide slot built into the flywheel you put a 6 or 8 inch cresent handel into this slot to undo the starter clutch by turning the slot with the cresent handel going down onto the solid part of the motor then undo the clutch with your impact drill the cresent handel holds the steel fly wheel

    Don't need a special tool. Pipe wrench or very VERY large Channel locks. To lock the crank, take a piece of old clothesline and wrap it around the SOLID portion of the flywheel a couple turn making sure to over lap at least once. Tie the othe end off the the handle.
    You should have straightened out that governor fan blade.

    Dont put pipe wrench on out side on pulley, take spark plug out an feed some rope in cylinder so piston wont rotate, you can tighten or loosen of crank shaft

    Next time try using a strap wrench on the fly wheel, and there are other tools that will lock up the fly wheel. Better than holding it with your hand. But good job.

    You can take that little 10 piece out of the end and put a polar in the end of it guess he's a little too prong puller to get it off something like that where you saw scarred up and drill in the hole

    Im still waiting on a part for my briggs 190702 model engine.
    After i get that done then start on the old twin briggs engine but i have to get my friends mower done first because i need the space its taking up in the shed so then after putting a new crankcase gasket on the twin briggs then go over the 3 hp briggs on the tiller it runs good with vibration but its needing a longer pull cord and lock nuts unless i can figure out whats causing the engine vibration besides that it works good and a good upgrade for it would be a primer bulb put on so then i wouldn't have to dump a little gas down it to start it up

    Looking for the name of the part or part number for the item that you replaced for the pull start. I picked up a 5hp chipper and all except one of the ball bearings are missing. Can I just replace with 5/16 ball bearings or do I need the whole part?

    The starter ratchet has a hole in the end plug. Should it be oiled in there once in a while?

    • @WillLinnebur
      @WillLinnebur 8 місяців тому

      I think that's what it's made for. The hole is inside a very slight dip so it will hold a drop or two while it seeps into the hole. There is a 3 mm thick felt pad below the hole that will absorb some oil. I took mine apart because it turned so stiffly that my cord rewind spring couldn't turn it. I lightly greased the shaft with high temp grease and it works well now. Next time I'll try just oil.

  • @Mike-su8si
    @Mike-su8si Рік тому

    Thats the flywheel anyhow i thought id need a new recoil spring but don't after all i took it apart to check it out the recoil i guess thats what its called it was good and rusty so loaded it with wd40 and kept pulling the cord and let it go back it drain the rusty oil spray more in and kept pulling to loosen up most the rust and its working both my arms got a good workout yesterday
    And putting the recoil back in place with the wash and spring in the middle was kinda hard but i got it back together then seen someone else had 2 tabs up like they were gonna take apart the recoil then decided not to is what it looked like i just pushed those other 2 tabs back down

    You ever put an aftermarket recoil on one of those flywheels? I guess guys have cut the crankshaft down a little for it to work. I'm not a fan of hacking. Has it worked well for you before?

      surging is usually a fuel delivery problem inside the carburetor, the slow speed jet/circuit most likely is plugged.

    You can tell it’s a botched job because the engine missing the recoil is supposed to be on the other Rototiller that he couldn’t get started the smaller one looks like he swapped them over for the better Engine so you might find out that the Engine on the smaller Rototiller might be junk
